Well, actually he was singing them on tour in 1994/1995.

I don't think that anyone was being ridiculous enough to think that Perry or anyone else (In their late 60's) for that matter could sing those songs the same as he did in the 1980's?

They could have tuned down for him. Which they did offer to do.

I don't think that anyone was being ridiculous enough to think that Perry or anyone else (In their late 60's) for that matter could sing those songs the same as he did in the 1980's?

They could have tuned down for him. Which they did offer to do.

SP recently sang some of these tunes with the Eels. There is no doubt in my mind that he could have performed a song like Lights and brought down the house. But he chose not to. Oh well. Once and for all, this should lay to rest any questions about him rejoining the band.

I think his attendance at the ceremony, his graciousness in meeting Arnel, his humility, his touching speech and him seemingly being overwhelmed with emotion was so touching to me. He got the ovation that he deserved from all those in the audience and he recognized those that were instrumental in helping him in his career! Bravo! Wonderful all the way around!

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that he doesn't care about his fans. But I will say that in my opinion he put his own ego ahead of his fans in this case.
I believe that his ego would either not allow him to risk potentially sounding bad, or that his ego would not allow him to perform with his former band-mates who he resents for moving on without him.

C'mon, he's been 20+ years keeping high hopes and creating expectations but in the end... NADA!

I don't know what's the point in keeping that torch light and do the opposite. He never had the guts to say to his public: "I'm retired! I won't record again". So I don't blame the fans for believing in him. I think it's only HIM to blame.

They already hit the stage coming from "Separate Ways". BTW, the moment when Neal and Steve salute each other is sooooooo fake... It was all a circus. There were very little honesty in JRNY's induction...

The latter is silly fan melodrama. The former is more likely given that he almost never sings live anyway now and when he does, it's covered by a plethora of ageist "OMG he can't sing anymore" because he can't sing impossibly high songs recorded at 30 years old like the original record

Well It was nice seeing the crowd go absolutely nuts over SP. I thought he had some very nice things to say about the band. Never in a million years thought I would hear him say he loved Arnel but I am sure he say what a gracious person Arnel was. All that being said, I knew he would not sing, I only hoped for a line or 2 on stage with Neal and Jon. Can't help but to feel sad that it didn't happen.

It's ridiculous he couldn't at least bring himself to belt out a verse of Lights or something. Very glad I turned down an invite to the Induction.

I don't care that he "showed up" or was "with" the band again. He's not a head of state or a famous reclusive actor coming out of hiding. He is (or at least was) a singer and a performer. "Showing up" means singing.
