Roadrunner 1979

Just another reason I love this band, not sure by the video if Valory, Smith, or Rolie where there but man Perry and Schon were on fire.
And the trade off licks between Schon and Hancock was epic.

That's a clip from Journey's appearance on the Midnight Special in 1979. They opened the show by all standing around a mic singing "The Midnight Special" a capella. The other songs they did were lipped (LTS & City Of The Angels). Some members of Journey joined the Herbie Hancock band for the live jam on Roadrunner. I remember going crazy watching this when it aired. I was never a fan of the lipped songs so it was so amazing to see Steve & Neal tear it up on Roadrunner.

There is also the KBFH version of Roadrunner....the same session that produced "Good Times" in the box set:

It is sad that Steve lip-synched the two Journey tunes. Mostly cause I dont think they ever did City of the Angels live, maybe they did but have never heard a recording of it.

Wonder why they chose to lip synch it when they did Roadrunner live.

Was hoping Journey through time would do it.

For awhile KQRS would play LTS/City of the Angels back to back but it never quite took off like Feeling that way/Anytime.
Also, has anyone ever heard Good Morning Girl/Stay Awhile on the radio? It charted, but never heard this one.

Wow!
Another rare find by Journey "live".
I love it how Rolie's background vocals are so prominent.
And Steve Smith owns this song.

thanks much!

Growing up, I ALWAYS heard LTS/CotA together. Always. It wasn't until I traveled out of state that I heard LTS by itself on the radio. Until then, I always thought those two songs were supposed to be together, all the time.

A long time ago, someone told me that DJ in Iowa put Good Morning Girl/Stay Awhile together and it became such a thing that they released it as a single. I don't know how true that is...and I'd love somebody to confirm it or knock it down.

City of the Angels is a perfect example of how amazing this lineup was as a live band. Steve Perry riffing/scatting to Neal's playing at the end shows the undeniable chemistry between the two. Thanks for sharing.
