Wasn’t Neal’s new album Universe supposed to drop this month? My Google-foo may be lacking as I can’t find anything about its release date

He's gone silent on most side projects including this and Journey Through Time. Not sure what's up.

And he was going to tour behind both.

I am sure the Juggernaut Journey management put the kibosh on this. Journey has a residency soon and will be touring with The
Pretenders next year.

Journey management thinks us fans are stupid and don;t want to confuse Schon's solo projects with Journey (the CASH cow)

Deen said a few days ago on Twitter that nothing was going on with JTT because of Journey commitments. I think the more accurate answer is that management wanted NS to focus on the money winner. JTT was not going to sell out larger venues, or generate enough to make it worth the investment of time and resources.

I don't believe this. There are journey tribute acts, like Hugo's Voyage, that are profitably able to tour small to mid size venues. Neal always said that JTT was about the music.

And I thought Neal said at the ROR HOF "It's all about the Fans" apparently not.

Fair enough, but then what's your theory? Seems to be a lot of work putting this all together, to have it just fall flat or walk away from it.

Other than some sporadic dates, the "mothership" didn't tour this summer and hasn't done a ton of touring in 2019.. allowing everyone to do their thing. There could be some other complications or delays with the side projects or lack of time as they prep for the Vegas thing. I'm sure the other stuff will come out in due time.

Not sure Neal's lawsuit is helping much.

Doesn't any band - even a tribute- need to secure the music rights if they're going to go out and play Journey songs for money? It's always possible Cain and/or Perry are the ones who put the kibosh on JTT.

I have a really hard time believing that tribute bands need to pay to perform songs live from other artists.
Maybe if they record them or it used in TV or Movies. I know this is what kept "Wonder Years" from being released for years.
Thats why back in day all these tv shows used cover bands for popular songs.
And also as a kid I always wondered why they always sang For He (Or Shes) a jolly good fellow. Then found out they would have to pay for Happy Birthday.

I remember in an interview with Perry years ago he could not even buy a Starbucks with his royalty checks.

If tribute bands had to pay or even a cover band to perform songs, they would be broke.
Wish Nora was still here, who sings for Trag, pretty sure she could back me up on this as they often do cover songs.

I just remember that Perry controlled all the band's music (recorded with him) for many years, which of course prompted them to re-record the hits for Revelation. And we're all very familiar with how Perry was forever paid as if he was still a full-fledged member, even while they toured with Augeri/JSS/Arnel. If Jeremey is still lurking here, perhaps he can weigh in?

Tribute bands don't have to pay squat.

The bars/venues pay blanket licensing fees to BMI/ASCAP that cover that kind of thing. But a Journey tribute band playing a gig is no different than your random bar band slipping "Any Way You Want It" into the set.

Anyone can go out and play any songs they want live. The only issue would be if they used the actual band name (which has gotten plenty of ex-members of various bands in trouble over the years) or any other kind of misleading advertising. They could even release albums of their cover versions, as long as proper songwriting royalties were paid.

Artists can't stop anyone from playing their songs live or recording cover versions, period.

What's going to happen with the JTT tracks NS wrote and recorded with Deen on vox? He should just record with AP lineup and put out an EP or something.

I am sure Friga would veto that.

I take it that there are still no updates on a release date for the album? Has anyone heard anything new about a release date?
