Time For Traces Songs To Be Heard Live

Postby ADALBL » Mon Jul 15, 2019 6:14 am

I continue to think that Traces is just an amazing collection of songs. It feels so good. The songwriting is amazing and fresh and the vocals are too. I still believe we will get some live performances of these songs because to truly live, these songs NEED to be heard live. And oh man I'm ready to do whatever it takes to get to one of the shows.

Hope Steve has been rehearsing and getting things lined up even for a small tour.

And I was one of the people who always knew we would get new music from Steve one day. He may not have know it for a while, but if you listen to him sing, you had to know one day he would be pulled back into it somehow. I think the same will happen here with the live performances.

Let the discussion begin...

I think it would have probably happened if the songs were sung live.
I was hoping with his 2-3 appearances in the last month or so would give us a clue.

With Journey off tour and Journey through time not happening this summer would have been his best bet for a small tour.
He sold out 3000+ seaters in 1994-95 so I am sure he could still do that.

He could have easily went on any talk show last fall and sang with the house band. One appearance and he would have promoted the album 10X more then his dozens of radio interviews.

Hope it happens but my guess is no.

The further away we get from the album's release last October, the more I feel our chances are dwindling to see Steve live again. The 94/95 tour started in October or November of 94, and the album had been released in July I think it was. His usual ability to not commit to touring during interviews but saying things like "working on seeing what live show possibilities there are" just drive us all insane. I'm not taking a vacation this year because I've been sitting around waiting to see if I need to drop everything and fly somewhere (or multiple somewheres) to see Steve perform. It's crazy for me to live this way, but that's how much I want to see him again. That said - c'mon Steve, you're messing with my life here - we'd like to know if you plan to do some shows or not. :)

I am with you jrnyfan, I have been saving money since last October in the hopes that he would make at least one singing appearance.

I was there at Milwaukee on his tour opener in Oct 1994. It was a last minute decision and I drove 5+ hours and hitting construction off and on I was late, missed Sass and a few songs from Perry (and had nosebleed seats) but would never regret it.

I was very very lucky to score 1st row tix to his next performance in Minneapolis at the Northrup. (and only a 1/2 hour drive :D )
What a magical night. Sass and her band were awesome. But Perry blew me away. I wanted to see him again on the tour but was pretty broke at the time.

The main thing I remember was the tons and tons of flowers he was gifted by fans. The whole front of the stage had them.

The very sad thing is the first time he sang live since 95 was about 5 miles from where I live in Saint Paul in 2014.

So tonight I got to see one of my other favorite artists - Aimee Mann - live at the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, PA. This theatre is where they shot the movie theatre seen in the classic old horror movie "The Blob", but I digress. Her show was amazing. She had a full band they were great together. Lots of beautiful harmonies. Excellent musicianship all around and I thought she not only sang great, but added something to the live versions that made them even better. The place was sold out and both Aimee and the crowd had a great time. She is very funny between songs and just put on a terrific show. It also helps that she is an incredible songwriter with excellent songs.

As soon as the show was done, I started thinking about how this only further convinced me that Steve HAS to get out and share his amazing Traces album live. Seeing great musicians perform live is such a treat and tonight was a beautiful reminder of that.

Ok Steve, again I hope you are in rehearsals somewhere and ready to surprise us all again with a sudden announcement of a tour. We are ready...

I'm with y'all. I definitely believe we WILL hear these songs live. His body of work is getting too big to wait. It could easily become a 3 hour show: Journey and 3 solo albums which more and more people are clamoring for. I am starting to save my money just in case he starts here.

I sometimes wonder how many fans still question his ability to sing. Why the refusals to promo these songs for all the press touring he did? (Although GMA's Robin Roberts did get a promise that he'd sing next time.) Could it be that he can't sing live nearly as good as he sounds on the album? Maybe there was a lot of "studio magic" that made these songs. :?:
Hopefully, we'll see & hear...soon.

SP sounded good at those Eels shows. Could he sustain a tour? Not sure, and I don't think he wants to.

very true. the biggest obstacle IMHO is the Journey catalog he would be forced into which leads to all
kinds of problems. If it was going to happen it would have been planned with the release which was very
well coordinated.

There is no doubt he can still sing, It's the touring that is the question. I wish things weren't so complicated. I want the lineup back. :(

Pretty clear by now that he either can't or won't perform live.

Much like sitting around waiting on his new music, it's pointless to speculate. The man had numerous opportunities and he passed on every single one of them.

Hopefully he just keeps putting out new music now and again, and that will have to suffice.

Man like waiting for a Van Halen tour don’t put your savings and life on hold for this guy. I would be shocked if there’s a single live show.

I should have guessed when he dodged all those questions year ago.

I wonder if there is any legal reasons he cant tour/sing live or just does not want too.

Well, if there's a bright side...

"@steveperrymusic (Instagram):

It’s been one year today since “Traces,” my first record in 25 years, was released.
I want to thank you all for receiving it with such kindness.
There will be more to come, including some Christmas music this year.
Thank you for all your support and acceptance of this new music.
I would also like to thank my record label, Fantasy Records, for their constant support.
It would not of been possible without all of you!

I think Perry should do a live DVD or PPV event. One show, record it, release it.
No tour to do more damage to his voice. Make it solo stuff only. I could care less to hear him sing Journey songs as there are a buttload of live recordings out there with him doing just that.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I always thought that a storyteller type of show would be a good fit for him now, even if it were just a one-off. Play the new material and offer up some tidbits about the classic songs, and maybe sing an off the cuff version. Similar to what he did with The Eels. There would be no judgement and no standard to reach. Just a fun night with Steve.

Yep, or even an "Unplugged" type of show would work

I always thought Austin City Limits would have been a good choice. Small venue and he could have picked the songs that are the easiest to sing. Add some background singers and I am sure he would sound just fine.

And I know I am dreaming, but get Rolie for a special guest (Since he lives there) but for some reason there is bad blood between them. In the RAR HOF Rolie I think he gave him half hearted claps 1 or 2 times. But you would think the most animosity would be between Schon and Perry,

Especially when he called his music rights "No More Tails".

Steve is coming out with NEW music, possibly early to mid 2020...so I think Traces was a promise fulfilled for himself and Kellie. I think the NEWER music will be sang live when released. Just not Traces. JMO.

I did not know his spinning while singing was referred to as the Perry spin...I thought Perry twirl had a nice ring to it. Who knew (not me) he spun around a lot.
