50th Anniversary

Postby artinis1 » Fri Jul 22, 2022 4:43 am

With the ET segment and Neal talking about touring plans next year, the following occurred to me.
Any chance they celebrate their legacy with more archive releases? Frontiers, ROR live shows,
expanded albums, I could go on and on and on. Perry would have to participate, but the timing
would never be better. I’m probably dreaming right?

I was just thinking about that a couple of days ago. They really do need to release live concerts from the Frontiers, Raised On Radio and Departure tours. Honestly, they should have either already or at least in the near future release/released live shows from all of the Steve Perry era albums of the 70s and 80s. Obviously there aren't any shows from Trial By Fire.

The 50th Anniversary is the perfect time to release at least a Frontiers live concert video if not multiple tour concert videos.

I have always been hoping for an album or two of all of the songs from the cutting room floor that didn’t make each album, there has to be some killer stuff from the Perry era that nobody has ever heard yet.

Yes, I wish that they would release all of the previously unreleased songs from over the entire career of the band on CDs !

Honestly, I don’t believe the band has a whole lot of unreleased studio music. But they definitely have plenty of great live recordings!

I posted a comment on Neal's Twitter asking if there would be any archive releases for the 50th. He liked the comment. I take that as a yes. :D

Or, maybe he just likes the idea. The thing is, they have talked about doing this for 20yrs. A video box set is what Jonathan talked about during the Augeri years. What did they release? A DVD of the MTV videos, in SD...not even HD. Then, later, the Houston Escape concert.

Also, for any video, they would need permission to release it from ALL members of the band appearing in the video...including Ross Valory, Steve Smith, and Steve Perry. You know, those guys who Neal fired and sued. ;)

Not that it CAN'T happen....there is just a lot of red tape that the band will have to go through.

That’s what concerns me getting everyone to sign off on anything. I would be beyond thrilled to at least get
official live Frontiers and ROR shows in audio. We know they have the multitracks based on Greatest Hits Live and the ROR live tracks from the box set. Concerts in video form would be unbelievable.

It wouldn’t surprise me if their former record label would add a lot more red tape to that process too. I can’t picture Sony/Columbia letting Neal do what ever he wants with any archival material Journey filmed or recorded back then without getting a slice of the monetary pie.

They should...but I can't see that they will. They would need Perry involved a lot and just searching for masters/gathering/organising is one person's full time job. There are no spare personnel in the Journey business to get that done. Someone would need to go back and forth with Perry and sift through tapes/reels.... I believe its all there and possible, I just don't see these guys doing it.

Complete sidebar here, but Anyway You Want It was featured in a scene this week on Better Call Saul. Saul woke up next to a hooker with the song blaring. There's a pretty interesting reddit discussion on it regarding how sad the scene was.

BTW, a few years ago I said Journey should get a song on both Cobra Kai and Stranger Things...and they did that on both of them, and that was really cool.

Next, I think they need a song on The Orville. They already had a Karaoke scene a few years ago...but they should feature an entire song. They just had a scene with Dolly Parton guesting and performing a song...which was really cool, and a very important scene in the story...and, I'm not much of a Dolly Parton fan, but it was an impressive bit. They could do the same with Journey...There has got to be a way.

They should release the full Departure Tour concert. Wasn't Captured just part of the concert? Most of the concert, but not all.
I want the whole concert. Probably just a couple extra songs.

I'm on season 2 of Cobra Kai right now. My brother has Netflix, I don't. So I only get to see it when my brother has spare time for me to go to his house and watch it. What season did Cobra Kai use a Journey song, and which song was it?

They used "Open Arms". It is whatever their latest season was....I think Season 3.

I don't think Open Arms was the right song for this because the two characters didn't get together in a relationship. It was misused here. I didn't know Open Arms was a song about breaking up. They should have used Send Her My Love or something else.
