Heard Augeri's interview on the Rock Solid podcast. Great interview. Had forgotten about his album release. It's a really good album. Bought it and his singles after the podcast. I remember being a bit letdown after the 2nd Tall Stories album so I kind of lost track of Augeri. I really like the new album. Nice to have new music from him. A little variety on there, too. 4/5.

I've always appreciated your vocal insights. Curious on your take on some of these tracks. Some songs like Baited Breath or Never Far From Home sound like pristine SA in full voice. Other tracks like Desert Moon or Drive have that falsetto zipped up voice sound that he uses when he tours. Did you notice this?

Yeah, honestly, I look at vocals closely, but if he's able to do what he's doing, considering where he was and his age, then I'm not going to complain. Especially after going through my own vocal bs- I'm not gonna complain. His voice works well in these songs- which are made for him. Just like the Tall Stories stuff- those songs were made for his voice (I mean, Sister of Mercy, c'mon, killer track). The pre-Arrival Journey stuff was made for SP. Augeri's recorded stuff with Journey worked great for him. I remember u loving 'Arrival'. Great sounding album and he sang well on it.

I was hard on SA here about his live singing - but sometimes, you just have to get through the gig- and, like AP, SP, and JSS- they were/are singing the hardest songs in the biz. I was hard on JSS, too. Great singer, I just heard those really early Journey shows he did, and that formed an opinion, but he fixed whatever was going on and ended up doing really well at the end.

I know that Drive isn't a favorite track of peeps. I like that one quite a bit, actually. But I also didn't fault him for Butterfly and Believe, which peeps hated. There are moments here where he does sound pristine. I find that he sounds like Hugo on some of em, too. Like he's using the same vocal approach (voodoo?) that Hugo did. I swear, it sounds like that guy is just whispering the words and yet these f'ng incredible high notes just flop out. I don't know the album well enough to remember which is which and where he does what. Missing album covers and artwork... But I like the album as a whole. I like the variety of the songs, too.

Thanks. I like all the songs on the cd. More replay value than Freedom for me actually. Was just curious. I'll PM you.

Desert Moon is an awesome song. Journey should have found a way to fit it on an album back when Augeri was still in the band.

Is anyone else having a difficult time making out the lyrics to the first song on the Augeri album? I can't make out 80% of the lyrics so far.

OK, so I've spun the album 3 times, including on today's commute to work. I have to say, IMO it's a very satisfying, diverse album. I love how he sounds and I really like the production and the variety from song to song.

Hints of Journey (duh), Train, Rod Stewart...

Love it!

It is sequenced very well. And I also hear those influences. Glad you dig it.

Giving this a bump.

Was revisiting the album recently. Some of these tracks - like the Cain co-write, Never Far From Home - are really just top notch stuff.

This is on Spotify, too. I was listening to it today. And, yeah, it's really good. I like it a lot more than Hugo's album. Hope Augeri puts together another some day soon. It also makes me want more from Kevin Chalfant.

BTW, talking about songs that sound like other songs. Does this intro not sound exactly like U2:

It is slowed down but I instantly thought of "Where the Streets Have No Name".

Appreciate this thread. Been meaning to post about a road trip that the wife and I had to take a few months back. I put on this album so I could listen from start to finish. Besides loving it, I was pleasantly surprised at how much my wife enjoyed it. She's a Journey fan, but really never paid attention to the ins and outs of the band. She couldn't pick Augeri out of a lineup if she had to. Anywho, she also loved the album and now has it in her regular Spotify rotation.

The band used to play that leading into Faithfully during live shows. Back then, I thought it was a cover of "Where the Streets Have No Name." Cool that it became it's own thing.

I agree. I also like the album more than Hugo's and probably more than Freedom too.

Very cool. It's well sequenced and has alot of diversity. I would love to read an Andrew review at some point to hear his take.

So as it turns out Augeri is going to be playing at a theater about 25 minutes from us in November. Kind of a no brainer to go. Looking forward to seeing the tour.
