Survivor live dates in 1988 - the hints

Postby Mikele » Sat Sep 27, 2025 11:47 pm

Hello all, I just wanted to create a topic to collect all the sparse hints to possible tour dates Survivor played in 1988.
Here are the a few ones I wanted to save for all of us

- In a Facebook post, dated 12 Sep 2022, our own F Sullivan writes:
"The Show Day in California where we shot the video for “Didn’t Know It Was Love”. Kyle Woods, second from the far right, was a badass drummer. He was a young friend of mine who went on to play with some great Artists’s until he passed very very early on. Don’t take one day for granted, this is not forever. Live your life to the fullest and to those who disagree with you and/or don’t like you and try to stand in your way, give them the Bronx Salute."

The post is accompanied by a picture featuring 6 men on the side of a highway, and Peterik and drummer Kyle W are among them. Kyle and another man sport a t-shirt with the Survivor logo from Too Hot To Sleep era, possibly tour merchandise. Looks like there is some snow on the mountains on the back and Peterik sports a sweater. Does not look like summer, but more like March/April to me.

- Newspaper article from a Michigan Journal, in which Kyle W is quoted as saying about the shoot of the video: "It was great I've never been to LA before. We shot the video at Irvine Meadows, in the big amphitheater. We made it look like a soundcheck." He does not specify, howeverh, if he played an actual gig on that day.

- Only 45-50 gigs were played at the venure in 1988. Survivor might have been opening act for one of the main acts that year, but seems difficult given the list of bands

I will update this post as soon as I can with possibly a quote from Peterik book (if there is any mention, can't remember right now). However, all in all, I suspect that Survivor were not playing any gig on the shooting day. The mistery remains to be solved

EDIT: There's no whatsoever mention of tour dates for THTS in Jim Peterik' memoir. He does however say that the band shoot a very nice video in a big amphitheater.
