I really like the first 4 or 5 songs....and yeah, Safe Home is a corker of a song. If you get a chance to see them live go and see them. I saw them after Stomp 442 came out and they kicked ass.....and Bush sings those old Belladonna songs really well. I think they are gonna release an album soon of old Anthrax songs with Bush singing.

Its Wednesday so that means its AOW time again. I've had a few listens to Neal Morse's Testimoney.....and its good.....but something about it bugs me. I think its some of the lyrics. Its not that they are preachy but they are definately the lyrics of a born again christian
I don't know any more than what i've read but i wonder how 'bad' a person Morse was before he found "God"......having known a few born-agains they have all seemed to over-dramatise the state of their former lifestyles and belief systems.....and i just get the feeling (i'm not sure why)
that this is the case here too.....but its his story and you have to respect the guy for being able to pull it off in such a monumental way.
Musically the album is pretty good though and is not too much of a departure from Spock's Beard (although it really misses those thick bass lines).....I prefer 'Snow' over 'Testimomney'.

My Mrs has been blasting Kingdom Come - In your face over the last week. She showed it to me and asked how long i'd had it for.........at least 10 years. It was one of her fave cds as a teenager and she must have been through my cd collection at least 100 times and never seen it up until now. So i must have heard that at least 10-20 times this week as well.

It took a few more listens, but I've decided to make Shiva "Desert Dreams" my AOTW. When I listened to it the first time, I didn't like it at all, because they took in a heavier style of rock, and it disappointed me that they would change after only one album prior.

However, first-listen judgement is a bad habit that my older bro has and one I've been trying to break, so I gave the album a few more spins. Eventually, "Desert Dreams" grew on me. Actually, the heavier songs are not too far off from Phantom Blue. Overall, it isn't as good as the first album, but Anette Johansson proves that she can sing a diverse series of vocal-styles. To go from Phantom Blue-style to Ann Wilson-style is quite impressive to say the least.

Overall, I've decided to keep it for the time being. You can ignore my last post where I say to avoid it.

WCFYA from Anthrax is a quality slab of digital plastic :D More proof that Charlie Benante is more of a man than Lars whatever his name is

AOTW: Pleasure To Burn by Systematic...it took until the 3rd spin to get in to this one except "Leaving Only Scars" is why I bought the thing. The other tunes have grown on me for the most part...Infected...the title track...I'll Get By...Where We Live And Die are all cool tunes...they even sound more like Metallica than Metallica does anymore on a couple of the songs from the CD

I realize I'm a few days late but my aotw is Emmylou Harris 'Stumble Into Grace'. I know Emmylou isn't rock, but she is my favorite female singer and this album is simply stunning.

I'm late too. Sorry. My AOTW is Montany - New Born Day. It's lousy production, but the vocals have something special. I think it's their only album, and the vocalist has left, but I'd be interested to know if he has anything else out.

AOTW? Nope, don't got one. Didn't listen to anything this week.

So I'll pick one at random...hmmmm...I'll choose Andrew W.K. "I Get Wet". Don't ask me why; I've been on a nu-breed/cheesy drunken party rockers kick as of late.

My first album of the week: :D

This week it's Blackmore's Rainbow - Stranger In Us All.
I was only recently reminded of this album. I hadn't listened to it in ages, but I still think it's a really good cd. Some strange songs are on it, but they do sound great, although not like anything you'd associate with Rainbow.

My album this week is Shadowman 'Land of the living'. Being a big fan of 'FM' its good to know Steve Overland can still hit the right spot.
Sung by a great blues/rock singer and a couple of members of 'Thunder' thrown in = A good album.

My aotw is Frameshift - 'Unweaving the Rainbow'. I wasn't sure what to expect from this one, but I like it alot. A mixture of metal, rock, prog, acoustic, electronic. James LaBrie sounds great and the piano driven ballad 'La Mer' may be LaBrie's best vocal performance...ever.

I'm jealous of you, Mr Rock. My next cd order is probably not until next month. Shadowman will definitely be included. But I'm glad that in the meantime I can already listen to the preview track (Now Those Days Are Gone).

'Medicine to me' is for me the best track. The album has a few to many ballads for my liking, but don't let that put you off, I totally recommend it.

Late again in posting and not that it will be of the slightest interest to anyone on here, but my AOTW is LostProphets, Start Something. A much better effort than the first one, he actually manages to sing on the whole album this time and ditched the decks.

AOW time again.

A tie this week between Johansson/Johansson/Holdsworth - 'Heavy Machinery' and Incubus-'A crow left of the murder'

I've been looking for Heavy Machinery for a while now,,,,its only been available for a hefty price over the net....and on sites where it was a bit cheaper it was always out of stock. Well Doggy found it for me in a second hand cd shop and i'm a happy camper. Jens Johansson (and Anders) are amazingly versatile.....no power metal/ neoclassical licks on this album.....all fusion......and Holdsworth is an alien as always playing alien licks with an alien tone.

Incubus are one of my fave bands.....so the new cd was always going to be played extensively....and to be honest it has had to be played extensively for me to get into. :? was my reaction after the first two listens which after 2 or more listens became :) and after 5 days is now :D . I don't usually give most cds that amount of play time if i don't like them after 3 or 4 spins......

I have to post mine one night early because I won't be near the PC tomorrow.

My TCCotW (stands for Tacky Cliche Cheese of the Week) goes to Andrew W.K. "I Get Wet", for the second week in a row. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of terrible vocalists, but Mr. W.K's music is catchy as hell. It's party rock done modern style. I'm surprised that he hasn't got the media attention nor has been embraced by as many rock fans as I had thought he would.

His second album "The Wolf" almost got my nod for AotW. Not as many party songs, but a lot of excellent, well-written rock songs, even if they are lacking guitar solos.

N.P. -- Let's get a party going let's get a party going when it's time to party we will party hard party hard Let's get a party going let's get a party going when it's time to party we will always party hard!

In order not to have Tali actually like my choice of AOTW two weeks running, I'm going to go for the Exies first album, not so sleek production as the second one but still great.

The only cd I've heard multiple times this week is Dragonslayer by Dream Evil. A great cd to wake up to in the morning. Their music won't win any awards for originality; it's just solid eighties heavy metal. But that's exactly what I like about them.

My AOTW is Wasp - The Headless Children. I'm not a big fan of the band but this album is a classic. Their cover of the Who's The Real Me is a killer.

What the story with bands covering " The Who" songs. First its WASP doing "The Real Me", next Van Halen doing "Babe Reilly, now Limp Bizkit doing " Behind The Blue Eyes" ? Sorry the the rant.
A.T.O.W. for me is " Sands of Time" by Black Majesty. If Jag Panzer meets Queensryche your pot of beer, give it a listen. It sit No.3 on import chart of Burnn magazine in Japan.
