Are there any Journey/Steve Perry songs....

Postby Bamamutt » Fri Jul 23, 2004 4:31 pm

That you wished would have gotten airplay on the radio?

The list is long for me to post but I will say that there are 2 songs that I love and crank up when I play them....One is "La Raza Del Sol" and the other one is..."Liberty"...

:) ...La Raza is a rocking song...I love putting it on and cranking it up....You know I wish they would have released that song in one of the songbooks with guitar tabs...

I said back during the Arrival tour that they should have released a CD single and included the live version of La Razza del Sol as an extra song...Or, released it on its own to radio. They should have also released a live version of the accoustic set from the "Under the Radar" tour. They should have also released "Kiss Me Softly" as a single.

As for the earlier albums...I guess I'm happy with the choices of singles and wouldn't change much. The only things I can think of are recording and releasing "Let It Rock You" and finishing up the two instrumentals in the box set to include vocals.

There have been a LOT of missed opportunities...and I think it's a bit too late to make up for it now.

Higher Place should have been a number 1 hit imo. I really love that song!

Higher Place is an excellent song. I hate when record companies are ignorant and don't push an album or a song.

Yeah, no shit. They'll shelve a really true sounding melodic rock song like Higher Place, and push some stupid shit like J LO or Spears on Top 40, or another faceless Aerosmith song on album rock stations. Go figure. I might as well say it...I think Aerosmith is the most overrated band ever.

Yep, so they spend millions to sign a high profile act...then they have to spend millions to promote that act. Then that act has to sell millions of albums so the label can make a profit...And, if they can't maintain that triple platinum status, they are not making miney so they are dropped.

All the more reason why Journey shouldn't be on a big label like Sony.

They are in the business to know what is marketable. It takes more than a good song to get attention. Great vocals and a tight band is a must. More of Journey's classic music is being aired of late. Many of you have already admitted that you don't listen to the radio that much. You might be pleasently suprised. I'm trying to get one of my favorite stations to air "Somethin To Hide" since it's on the Essential C.D. One of our stations plays WYLAW often and "The Voice" never fails to amaze me anew.

If you think about it, many songs come back around to be very popular today, My Sharrona is a perfect ex. thats why we sould request Journey songs as often as we can.

"La Raza" of course, for the Journey songs.

But, I recently heard 3 RARE SP songs: and they would TOTALLY KICK ASS:

"Lost Angels"
"Let Go" - just for the "Mariah Carey" range note not ONCE - TWICE!!
"Somebody, Somewhere"

I Can See It In Your Eyes....should never have been the bonus track for TBF...that song was the best song on that album...it was a great showcase for the band at the time.

Hey NIG, thanks, good to see you too and you're right it was a horribly missed opp.

Hey perryfaithful, yes the song was on the japan release.

Little Girl is an amazing song, one of their best IMO. But I am not sure it would have been a radio hit had it been released. But it would have been cool to find out.

Hell back then a lot of things had chances to be released. Plus back then even if it DIDN;T get released it was a DJ's editorial choice to play it anyway. Lots of songs became hits that way without being pushed as singles.

I miss radio.

You mean radio the way it USED TO BE!! ;) Even thought I do not rank ROR very high, the coolest thing about it was reminding us of what radio used to be like. And Journey were not going to release any videos. They of course compromised and said no conceptualized videos. Probably the wrong marketing move but a cool idea.
