A classic band, but average cd. The ATOW for me is Starz's "Attention Shoppers".

This week? This is going to sound really screwed up but I have to go with the Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back motion picture soundtrack. I enjoy classical and big band music, particularly those from movies. With the new Star Wars trailer showing on March 10th, and Celebration III coming up in Indianapolis, Indiana in April, I'm getting pretty psyched up through the whole SW thing.

I admit it, I never grew up and out of Star Wars.

Nothing wrong with Star Wars. I've had mixed feelings with the new movies. The only letdown I have with the upcoming Episode III is that we all know what's gonna happen.

Allow me to reitterate, and sum up the next movie with two sentences:

Count Dooku and/or Palpatine: Anakin, you will turn to the dark side.
Anakin: HEY, SOUNDS GREAT! SIGN ME UP!!! :D

On the plus side, at least the bad guys will win. I will be watching to see how.

I will take your reiteration and raise you an elaboration. Picture in your mind the set of the Jerry Springer show...

Jerry: "Welcome to the show. Meet Sidious. Sidious is considered a Dark Lord of the Sith. He's come here because he's got a secret that he has to get out. He wants to tell his best friend that he's not who he really appears to be. So let's bring him out. Meet Dooku!"

(CROWD APPLAUSE - Dooku sits down in a chair way over on the other side of the stage)

Jerry: "Hey Dooku, nice meeting you. Your friend Sidious brought you on the show because he wants to tell you something. Sidious, do you have something you need to say to Dooku :?: "

Sidious: "Dooku, you know that we've been close friends for many years now and I really do like you but I've been hiding something from you that I think you need to know."

Dooku: "Yeah...?" :?

Sidious
: "Well, you see...this is so hard. Um, you know that we've been trying to destroy the Jedi and capture that Palpatine guy? Well, during this time I've really been acting like someone else and I've fallen for another guy and I think we need to break it off now."

Dooku: "What?"

Sidious: "I'm really Palpatine on the side and I've been doing it with Anakin for a long time and he's going to be my lover now."

Jerry: "Everyone, let's meet Anakin!"

(CROWD ROARS as Anakin comes running out from behind the stage with his lightsaber on)

Anakin:  "Dooku, you bitch! He's all mine!" (fight breaks out with chairs and lightsabers going everywhere. Anakin gets a lucky swipe at Dooku and decapitates him. Anakin laughs and sits in Dooku's chair.)

Sidious: "Oooh, Anakin! Your anger makes me horny! You're sexy when you're mad!"

Jerry: "Thanks for joining us Anakin. Sounds like you and Sidious have something going on here. Would you like to elaborate for the audience?"

Anakin: 8) "Yeah, no problem. You see, I had this chick on the side that was a total hottie, but Obi-Wan thought she was damaged goods and that I should keep my pecker in my pants. Pissed me off big time, so I started hangin' with Pally who was the bomb, you know! He'd be tellin' me things to make me feel like I was really worth something and not just some other Jedi's bitch. See, I used to be Obi-Wan's bitch once, but I got tired of his crap so I left him to get out on my own, you know? Then this frickin' Dooku started messin' with my girl and Pally told me that I had to do somethin' about it, so I did. BAM! Pretty cool shit, huh? I am 'da Chozen One, yo!"

Jerry: "Anakin, how do you feel about Pally being Sidious, you know."

Anakin: "It's cool, jus as long as I get my woman whenever I want at my crib back on Croissant."

Jerry: "You mean CORUSCANT?"

Anakin:  "Yeah, whatever, man. Why don't you get off my case, bro? I am 'da Chozen One, you know?"

Jerry: "Well, let's bring out your girl, Annie. Here's Padme!"

(CROWD WOOS PADME LOUDLY as Padme struts out and sits between Anakin and Sidious)

Jerry: "Hi Padme. Nice to meet you. I understand that you've got something that you need to tell Anakin. Why don't you tell him that now."

Padme: "Annie, I just need you to know that I'm pregnant and that you're their father."

(TO BE CONTINUED) :!:

I'm late... again... with my AOTW. Again because I didn't have a clue what to enter. A tape with the latest Masterplan tape is still in my walkman, I've heard the new Judas Priest a couple of times more, but for this week I've decided my AOTW is going to be Saxon - The Killing Fields. Basically because of the title song, and Court Of The Crimson King. Is the latter a cover btw? It sounds very 70s. I think I would like the original very much as well then. :)

King Crimson did it originally. Lana Lane did a cover of it as well.

Well, that makes sense! I never thought I would go and look for a King Crimson album but when I come across the album with that song on it, I'm going to give it a listen.

My album, same as Bobbi's. But maybe not as enthusiastic.

Steve Vai-Real Illusions:Reflections.

In the last 5 years he has put out quite a few things like a live dvd, live cd (of all new tracks) and a couple of compilations of songs he has done for movies, tributes, guest appearances etc. Some of this stuff was cool and some of it was pretty ordinary. So we finally get a new studio album and its pretty bloody good. Its Vai....and Billy Sheehan too.
One thing i don't like is Vai's singing. On the last 3 studio albums he has put at least 3 or 4 vocal tracks on each album. I like a couple but most of them just don't do it for me. He needs to hire a vocalist...he was going to have Devin Townsend on it at one stage but i don't know what happened.

I'm not really sure if I'm gonna post a new AOTW for awhile. I'm pretty much stuck on Masterplan "Aeronautics" and will be for awhile. Based on the 2005 album release schedule, there probably won't be a change until the next Evanescence comes out, and even then there's no guarantee.

One of the things I did this week was put Masterplan and Within Temptation head-to-head, taking turns spinning them to see which one would come up the winner. I couldn't come to a conclusion, because it's two different styles of rock and so it's just a matter of which genre I happen to be in the mood in at the moment. (and right now, it's heavy-hitting, double-bassing, grab - you - in - the - balls - and - punch - you - in - the - face - repeatedly - until - the - music - ends Power Metal.)

Since Within Temptation fell to second by default, I will instead post my 3rd Best AOTW for originality's sake, and that goes to Bob Catley "Middle Earth." It seems a bit mislabeled though, considering that Gary Hughes (Ten) wrote and produced all the songs.

That's a good album too. Erik Norlander is a keyboard genius. There's some pretty damn good verses on that album, but the choruses leave something to be desired.

My AOTW is Asia - Alpha. It must have been over 10 years since I played it last time. VH1 broadcasted the videoclip for Don't Cry last night, and that made me want to play this album again. It was especially great to hear The Heat Goes On again. Great song! Stupid of me to let this album gather dust for so long!

Correct! But I never thought to see the name of Gary Hughes in the same sentence as the word originality...

Anywho! AOTW-time; an oldy but goldy.....
