Well, considering that Steve Perry is the WHOLE REASON WHY I'm now a singer...

...Journey made the right choice and cut bait.

And, over the years, I've come to realize that I am a Steve Perry fan, and not so much of a "Journey" fan. I mean, I loved Journey....because Steve Perry was in it.

Well that's right, me too. But really what made me a fan was the chemistry between Cain, Schon and Perry. The rest isn't the same, it just doesn't do it for me - these 3 were the best togather and wrote the best material, I think that is safe to say. I just don't take anything in recent years all that serious, although Arrival is pretty good still, catchy songs in my opnion but again for the vocals will never do it, as good as Augeri thought he was, filling Perry's shows, is just bullshit - he was out of his depth and leauge (that is in terms of filling Perry's shoe's) but ofcourse he can hold is own as a singer, and pay tribute to Journey classics.

This is my first post and I have to say this:

Steve Perry should have NEVER been REPLACED!!!

He MADE that band! You don't REPLACE artists. This is about the music, the song writing chemistry and the PERFORMANCE-you can never replace that! This is NOT like a manager job at Wal-Mart. This is a person who basically took a "job" and made it his own. I once loved and believed in that band. That decision they made in 1998 has forever cheapened music for me. I never in my wildest dreams thought they would reduce themselves to a cover band.

If it took 3, 5 years or however long it took or if they NEVER got back together-the unknown, what a concept!
In the end as artists, all you have is your respectability and integrity-they LOST that in 1998.

And NO, I can't get over it. Steve Perry is the reason why I like music. You don't replace THAT!

I agree with you. The band however is still good and I love all their music, but it certainly sounds a whole lot better with Perry. But he is never coming back. He likes his life just the way it is-private. The man obviously has issues . what they are, I have no idea.

Unfortunately the only way to look at this is from a business perspective. Journey and its entire inventory of songs is a major source of income for the present band members, from a financial perspective it was vital for them to continue. Yes, they have released some new material in the 7 post Perry years, but it’s hardly the repertoire of a band on the rise. They choose instead when touring to rely heavily on the tried and trusted back catalog, of which on nearly every song Steve Perry has a songwriting credit. Due to this fact, without lifting a finger, or moving a sore hip, Perry will forever and always be a member of Journey.

Yes someone else is out there doing the work for him, but Perry still sees the $$ at the end of the day.

They are out there beause they put themselves in that predictament. I really doubt that Perry sees this as $$$ but even if he did good for him. Wouldn't we all want our investments in stock to rise?

Whenever you hear Journey on the radio, in the store, in the elevator, it will almost undoubtedly be a hit from the Perry era Journey. All this has made Perry a wealthy man, who has the privilege of deciding when or if he ever works again.

True you only hear the Steve Perry era any other material fails in comparison. It is really up to the man himself if he'll sing again or not guess we have no other alternative but to wait and see.
