Serendipity wrote:Jonny, not that I have ever been in a band, but I've hung around many of them :o, and from that it seems to me that 'fun' should be the keyword, not 'musical abilities'. Of course fun can come from playing in a musically proficient band, but I think most of the fun comes from playing music with people who are on the same wavelength, and not per sé the best musicians. It is rare for a band at the start of their career to have both. But, like Scotch, bands can improve over time. ;)

Writing songs, making music you love, with people you like, seeing a song grow, emptying a crate of beer with the bandmembers during or after rehearsal, all that seems like a worthwhile experience to me, regardless of the quality of the music or the musicians.

More so, all the things that go wrong, like the fridge in the rehearsal room exploding, broken down vans, hostile audiences, confused lighting technicians and all that make great stuff for anecdotes... or... the movie.

It might not be that bad to compromise a little in order to keep this project going and see where this experience would lead.

Now I need a drink as well. :)

Right now, this project is at the bottom of everyone's list, even my bro (though he won't admit to it. He's spread too thin, and the project gets lost in the mix.) The other members have put zero effort to practice material on their own time. Before there can be 'fun,' there has to be 'commitment.'

I wish I lived in Europe. It would be so much easier to find and join a gung-ho, let's-get-it-done type of band.

I'll quit ranting about the music crap any more. I just want it done.

Hello there!

Jonny, come over and join the Thomas Hansson Group! You're welcome!

So, how's the weekend? Well, I rearranged the appartment last night. Someday soon I won't find place for the ever growing record collection! I seriously have to stop buying off ebay, man it's dangerous stuff!

What's up for tonight? AOR goddammit!

Yours sincerely,

Thomas

Yes, Scotch indeed please! No ice though ;)

Just got back from a barbecue. It was cold outside but at least there was no rain!

Ha, what a coincidence again! I've been hoping the exact same thing, for the exact same reason!

Went to see Yngwie Malmsteen last night. It was quite memorable, his stage act seemed a little out of place for a small club venue. There was not much room on the stage to swing a guitar, nor for his dance moves. But that didn't keep him from doing it anyway! I wish he would stop singing though... I swear I heard him do a death grunt on one song! It was nice to see he enjoyed himself very much, despite all the technical difficulties. They had a great setlist, with lots of old material, so it was a good night. The merchandise was a little different; no shirts for girls, but instead they sold thongs... with "Unleash The Fury" printed on them.  Didn't feel like buying one of those though!

Thomasha, the rare records will be fine to start with! ;)

A fairly productive day for me. Not for music, but for the bedroom. I removed most of a home-built desk setup that was being used for random clutter, in prep for making space for a stereo cabinet that was donated to me by one of my bro's friends. What is the result of removing the table? Clutter strewn all over the floor, rather than on tables! I hate the mess, but it's for a worthy cause.

I've got one motto for taking care of clutter: "throw it in boxes and sort it out later!" At least a half dozen boxes full of random useful/useless junk, and it looks like I'm gonna add a few more to storage. Amazing how much $hit I was able to squeeze into this room.

I sense that you find it just as hard to separate from all the collected stuff as I do. Everything can come in handy, but I tend to discover what for right after I've finally thrown it away...

They just upped the rain forecast to 1 mm...

The weathergirl called this weather 'schaapscheerderskou' (sheapshearers cold); nice word to pronounce in Dutch!

Oh well, the cold and a little rain can't spoil my day, cause I'm finally going to see Steve Walsh live! I'm so excited!!! :D
