OK...I downloaded it and was going to read it later. But I read a few pages, and was going to finish it later, but kept on reading, and went to stop a couple more times, but kept on reading. WOW! A lot of info, and very well written. Nice work...just took too long to read ! Now half my day is gone! 8)

Some pro singers don't do as many gigs in their lifetimes as he crammed into his professional career.
And many of them didn't sing in that range for more than five minutes without damaging their vocal chords.
He was amazing to perform to the standard he did so many nights on the trot for so many years.
I think you may be underestimating his achievement.

I know she's not a rock singer, but she has one POWERFUL voice - Dame Shirley Bassey. She is lauded for still having a voice and, ok, she can still belt out the James Bond Themes at the age of seventy or whatever, but she does maybe six shows a year.

Think I'll print that article off and read it at bedtime instead of a book!
There's enough pages there to wallpaper a room!

Not many were even as good as Perry was let alone better but the emphasis is on was. Today Perry likely has a mere shadow of his once renowned vocal ability and is certainly not doing anything to disprove that.

There are definitely comparable vocalists through many genres some new, others performing for many years even decades.

His voice may not have been everyone's preference, but he had pipes and vocal control like no other. He would actually show up at the studio in the morning, AFTER boozing and partying it up all night, and nail the recording in one take.

To be fair his lazy drawl was probably suited to performing after a night on the town. Its not like he was performing any kind of vocal gymnastics after all.

Perry's my boy, but Sinatra may be one of the most unique and inspiring vocalists ever. Way too often imitated....never duplicated.

I'm Italian – I HAVE to feel this way.
