It appears to be a diplomatic way of saying what everyone was looking for as a reason to let JSS go. He didn't say 'he sucked' or anything close to that. Just that it didn't fit their sound. I think that is reasonable.
My belief is that most people would have a completely different feeling about those comments if they had handled the termination more professionally, and actually discussed the issue of why they wanted to go in a different direction to JSS one on one. I don't think how or what he said in the interview was that bad.
I agree. We
know the issue was the "legacy" sound. It was
how they handled the situation that sucked (and always will). Nothin' wrong with Jeff's voice, they wanted an alto-tenor.
My question is why they made him an official member BEFORE they heard what a baritone-ish voice sounded like on the new material. Wouldn't you do that before you made the offer? It sounds to me like Jeff's talent/ability wasn't the issue.
Too bad they didn't have the balls to level with man. One call with , hey buddy - thanks for bailing us out but we really thing we need a tenor to go on and Alllll this uproar would have never happened and I would probably still have some respect for Neal and Jon. As it stands now, I appreciate their
talent but they are, what's the term, douchbags?
