Allow me to explain. You basically have 3 parts to the city. The first is the northside. Here's where you'll find overpriced housing, no parking, gays and lesbos. If you like paying a lot for a little, driving endlessly to find a parking space and hanging out with semen swappers and fur lickers, this area is for you. I'll pass.

Next, we have lovely downtown Chicago. Why someone would pay upwards of a million dollars for a 2 bedroom condo to live around tall buildings is beyond me. Downtown is great to stagger around a few times a year. The restaurants and bars are second to none. I just can't imagine living somewhere where the only place you'll see trees or grass is on the National Geographic channel.

Last, we have the southside. Ideally, this is the side of the city to live on. The lots are a bit bigger and the housing is much more affordable...and there's a fucking reason for that. Try stopping and asking for directions after dusk if you're female and you'll likely find yourself in an alley, a pinball machine away from a grotesque remake of the movie "The Accused." If you're male, a quick robbing and beating is usually your fate...if you're lucky.

In closing, there are 2 places in the city worth a fuck. They are Edsion Park to the north and Mount Greenwood to the south. Honorable mention goes to Lake Point Towers right on the lake (if you have $$$) and Garfield Ridge on the southwest side. The rest you can fucking keep. Chicago does have some wonderful suburbs, but I am speaking exclusively within the city limits.

Thanks for explaining.

That is entirely subjective. None of that is based on fact except the housing costs and the crime factor on the south side (you left the west side out, since you're speaking of insane crime rates).

There are plenty of great places here if you're not a crusty old fart like SJ.

Lakeview and Wrigleyville are cool neighborhoods. I wouldn't live there do to the cost and parking but overall I love hanging out there. LOTS of great bars, restaurants and SHOPS.

Downtown, same downsides as far as living there, but very easily accessible, navigable and there's the great bars and restaurants, and a lot to do. Gret theaters and shows too. Just watch out for cab drivers. They'd sooner run you over than look at you. And the bike messengers are worse. Even the cabbies fear those assholes.

That's basically what he said.

I think someone needs to point out, however, that Edison Park is as big as a loogie, and you're bound to lose your car in one of the many fabulous potholes. I work a few streets over from there. You pass through uptown Park Ridge and you're like "Oh, hey, this is Chicago"... blink three times, cross Harlem, and you're in Niles.

Also, from what I've experienced of the city, the Northern neighborhoods are more geared toward the younger early 20s through early 30s crowd. The out-of-school, post adolescent idealism, eclectic, novelty, way of life that the kids born at the end of Gen X and the start of Gen Y can get. There ARE more gays & lesbians in those neighborhoods, but they are *NOT* everyone on every street from Lawrence to Division and Pulaski to Lake Shore.

The city is fantastic. Traffic pisses me off, but that's my only complaint thus far. 8)

I'm beginning to believe they keep bringing that shit up just because I made the huge mistake of saying I was offended and annoyed by it. WHAT, may I ask, does complaining about where the gay 'hood is have jack all to do with the question "Where do you all live"?

I was asked to explain why I think the vast majority of Chicago is a shit hole and I did so. Jizz gulpers don't bother me, but I'll be damned if I'm going to pay out of the ass (no pun intended) and have to see them every fucking day.

Living in the beautiful center of Lawnguyland, NY. Where no one can afford to live anymore!
Where the woods are filed with decaying cardboard boxes that sleep five. Of course, since no one can afford a new fridge anymore, it's hard to come by those large cartons.
Anyone got room in their guest house?
Mr. Perry? , Mr. Augeri ?
The 6 winning lotto #'s for New York?

Even the fish are leaving here :P

People that fuck corpses and farm animals don't "suck and fuck" right in front of you, but I have no desire to live near or see them on a daily basis either!!! Knowing that they do it is enough to keep me away. Homosexuality is sexually deviant and disgusting behavior which is unnatural and some of us simply don't want to be around it. The fact that "their" way of love doesn't allow for reproduction tells me that some higher authority tends to agree with me. That said, I have never bothered, taunted or made any remarks to a homo in person. In fact, one of my buddies played a joke on me and invited me to gay karaoke. It was funny for a while.

You can write a post that's so full of hate when your sig says "Hatred is the coward's revenge for being intimidated."? So homosexuality intimidates you? Got something going on there that makes you a'skeert?

You must have forgot a couple of times leaving Wrigley Field and driving through the neighborhood. I'm still surprised the guy on the bike didn't crash. I was amused though. :P

I'm completely through clicking on this thread. You both sound like a couple of hateful little 12 year olds who want their friends to think they're cool because they call people 'jizz gulpers'.

Dude, if you lived in my neighborhood, you would have already been at Home Depot looking for a shower rod. We have a lot of metrosexuals that work in Hollywood so You'll think they're gay when they're not. For some reason they like to date women that are bigger and taller then them. They're the type of guys that if you talk to them on the street the woman takes over the conversation and the guy will glance at her before speaking to you. On the whole though there is really not much crime in Silver Lake and massive gentrification going on so I don't worry about there life style all that much. For the record, I haven't seen any public displays of affection from any of the alternative life style people on my street. Now, West L.A. would be a different story but I don't hang out there.

Wow, Saint John, I agree with BlueJeanGirl, your rage blows my mind. What are you going to do if your son is gay? Disown him? I wouldn't want any children I might have to be gay. It would make me sad. The world is too harsh, but I would love them unconditionally. I have two good friends who are interior designers and partners in a business. One is male and he's gay. You could look at him and know. But he never acted on it and struggled and went to church and prayed. But he finally admitted it now in his thirties. He fears he waited too long to admit it, even to himself, to find happiness. His parents are very religious, but love him no less and accept him. He's a tremendous person and son. You don't have to agree with it, but you don't need to be so hateful. :(

I like Dan. I think he's a good dude. I've just never agreed with his homophobic statements on here. I happen to be the father of a 2 year old boy, and my wish would never be for him to be gay. That said, it would never change my relationship with him, nor would it change the deep love and affection that I have for him. I happen to be disgustingly heterosexual, but have really never understood "gay bashing". I can tell you that I never took any classes on liking women. It just sort of happened.

The one thing I can't help but notice when it comes to one's political leanings are that most conservatives want the entire world to be exactly like they are, which would be fucking boring! They also seem to want most of society to strictly adhere to their morals and beliefs. Liberals tend to just let people live their lives, and make whatever choices they believe to be right for them. For the record, I don't believe (nor have I ever believed) that being gay is a choice. I don't believe that anyone would willingly choose a lifestyle that they know is going to ostracize them from society.

I totally disagree with that statement. Liberals are the big government people that want to indoctrinate everyone to their way. Everyone should be open minded yet if you don't agree with them you're a racist, homophobe, bigot, close minded, this or that. They're the ones that have coined the terms hate speech and passed hate crimes. They're the ones that want special rights. Everyone must conform to the "rules." You can't do this, you can't do that.

(True)Conservatives/libertarians are the ones of limited government and individual freedom. Everyone can do what they want. No one is saying no one can't be gay, just don't force your way on the rest of us. We're the leave me alone crowd. We are the free speech crowd.

If you say so. I'm not going to turn this into a conservative bashing thread, because it's not the intent of this thread. Let me just say that I don't agree, AT ALL, with your assessment of "just don't force your way on the rest of us". It's beyond fucking ridiculous for anyone to say that "everyone can do what they want", and then in the next breath scream homophobic slurs. Also, I don't know of any gay person on the planet, who is truly trying to force their "way on the rest of us". Your belief is that if it's happening at all, then it's being "forced" on you, which is just stupid!

It is my right to scream "homophobic slurs" if I want.

When I say forced on us, I'm more referring to them trying to have society/force us to accept their behavior. But, there are some radical homosexual activist that definitely try to promote the lifestyle.
