And honestly John, I find them offensive. And I don't normally cry offense, either. As you well know I've tolerated your opinions equally with everyone else's.

Sorry if my opinion offends. I'm quite cognizant the my opinion makes me public enemy number one with all southerners, and I'm okay with that. I'm not making any apologies for what I saw with my own two eyes. I can honestly say that it doesn't make me remotely happy to see the things I saw. As an American, it was all pretty disappointing. Also, racism exists EVERYWHERE. There are some racist people in Boston and there are some very open minded and tolerant people in the south. It just seems that racism seems to be a bit more prevalent and acceptable in some parts of our country.
There are still people who refer to my hometown of Boston as being racist, because of the busing situation more than 30 years ago. I don't lose any sleep over it, because the fact of the matter is that it happened!
Obviously my experience of living in the south won't change, as I lived it! I was simply making a point about a KKK retail store that exists in the south (I can assure you that I didn't put it there)!

John, I am truely sorry you were exposed to that in the place you lived. But the south is a big place. And you lived in one area.

It is not just a southern thing!!!! I've lived half of my life in the north and half in the south, it is more prevalent down south, you guys/y'all!!!
I hear the "N" word no less than 5 times a day and in front of people of color no less. I'll NEVER get over the shock of that!!!

So let me get this right... you can spew YOUR opinion that offends a certain group of people, yet offensive comments about another group of people get you on the defensive warpath of indignation...? So while you're trying to curb offensive comments in one breath, you're spewing them yourself in another?
Feel free to say "Oh hey, those *individuals* who run and shop from a KKK retail store sure are racist!" ...That's fair and accurate. But giving the impression that anything south of Pennsyltucky is populated with a bunch of ignorant, hating, white-hood adorning, lynch-mobbing, swaybacked, bucktoothed, Jesus-loving, swampbumpkins isn't necessary.
And I'm sorry, but I lived in the south most of my life, and I've traveled the country extensively as well, and with all due respect (really)... YOU SAW WHAT YOU WANTED TO SEE.

Could be! LOL! How did you know my home town? I have also experianced racism in Vegas, I dealt with some skin heads on a regular basis. I think it depends on your city, and the folks there. I know there are some here. But the n word you speak of, has been spoken more by some of my African American friends than my white! LOL! It also depends on who you want to run with. Bigots or nice people.

I did live in Atlanta for two years, which was a great city, but for my job I would go to smaller outlying counties all over Georgia. I was stunned at the racial slurs that were uttered publicly in a professional setting by highly educated people and it was accepted as natural, and they didn't know me from Adam. I had never had that happen in Florida in the same job.
Don't get me wrong, I believe racism is everywhere, but my experience has been that it's still more openly expressed in small southern towns. I was told when I lived in Atlanta, that they don't consider Florida the south. Now, I can't speak for the North. I can only compare Florida to Georgia. And I've gone to depositions in very small southern towns in Florida and never had it so openly expressed. Behind the scenes, I'm sure there's plenty, just like I'm sure there is everywhere.
