So there was a little bit of mayhem last night? I caught on the news this morning that everyone was shocked at how well-behaved the crowd was.

I think it's an extremely accurate assessment.conversationpc wrote:Come on, dude! That's a bit unfair, don't you think?.

On another note, I found Obama's speech last night to be one of the best political speeches that I've ever listened to. I had forgotten what a president should sound like, given the last 8 years of fumbling through sentences!

John From Boston, you were MONEY this entire thread.
Watching Obama's speech last night was jaw-dropping. You can see right away that he turned campaign talk to INSTANTLY forming into the leader of the United States. He stood broad, looked right into the eyes of America and spoke strong passion with strong words. The story about the 106 year old black woman was touching and I'm proud of us that we are able to leap frog racist issues at the time being.
Watching W for 8 years stutter, stumble, and drool all over himself is one thing, but watching Obama's acceptance speech was nothing short of perfection. We now have a president that will take over controls and speak straight forward to the American people, and also the world.
As for Tito.. I always liked the way McCain handled himself, outside the politcal race. (Letterman, talk shows, etc.) But watching him debate over the fate of America was just as harsh up there as W. Good guy yes, leader of the country...no.

Well you quoted both me and another person, so I'm not sure who your question is directed at. I did not vote for Obama at all. I also don't think a candidate should be voted for because of his or her ability to deliver a speech. Having said that, I think it's a VERY fair criticism of W that the guy can't put a sentence together. I have always believed that being able to speak in public should be a prerequisite to be a politician.

While I agree with you that anyone who speaks a lot in public is guaranteed to fuck up, it's taken to a whole different level with W.! He has NEVER come close to delivering a speech half as eloquent as the one Obama delivered last evening.

Most career politicians/bullshitters are great speakers. That's how they got where they're at. I'm not sure, but to the best of my knowledge Obama has never had one "real" job in his life. He's been prepped for this moment by a team of genius, anti-american scoundrels for the better part of 20 years. They have to be laughing their asses off today. My hat's off to them. I never thought the american public was this stupid.Enigma869 wrote:AlteredDNA wrote:BTW, George Bush can put a sentence together, but when you speak that much in public, flubs are bound to happen, even to Obama - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEIzEfm6N6Q

Did you vote for Obama because he is a better speaker than Bush, or for his ideology?
I've been following this election '08 for awhile now.. knowing it would be my first vote as an elector. Going into this, and watching Obama beat Hillary, I needed to start to determine each side and what they were for. I said time and time again I am a ABB fan (Anybody but bush) so knowing someone else in charge was a win/win for me.
My aunt, who died this past January (god bless her soul) said back in '03 watch out for this new kid, Barack Obama.. a black man. Ever since then he slowly but surely crept up the ranks of politics.
I sat and listened, through 4 debates. 3 presidential and 1 Vice Presidential. After the stock market hit a low, I was eager to see how each candidate handled themselves.
I viewed it as Obama seemed to handle the situation with more eagerness, and pleaded to us what was happening and what needed to be done. He seemed more serious, and more sincere letting us know how things needed to be changed. The way he will work for the the middle class to build this foundation back up.. starting from the ground and work it's way up. His agenda seemed better to me with tax polices, and health care plans. The economy needs to be back on track and the way Obama presented his policies, it won me over a long time ago after listening to McCain just attack and attack Obama for in-experience. Obama's attack was more convincing that McCain policies will still hold the threshold under Bush and that we won't see no drastic changes that is needed.
Obama's plan seemed fresh, seemed strong, and he himself seemed more willing to put his plan forward than McCain ever pro-posed. As it turned out, millions upon millions of other people, strongly agreed from last nights turnout.
Hope that cleared things up for you bro!

In 2000, 50,996,116 Americans strongly disagreed with Bush.
In 2004, 59,028,109 Americans strongly disagreed with Bush.
How I wish to fucking hell we had those decissions to make over!
