So if he were standing next to you, would you have the stones to say that to his face?

In that picture Manny looks like he is being crucified. Very apt!

Does God condone boxing? Hmmm...

That would be due to De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions promoting the event. The actual purse is split much more evenly - although weighed to Oscar's advantage. Still $11 million is a staggering amount for what essentially boils down to a nights work (discounting the months of preparation and training).

Big kudos...MAJOR kudos to Manny.
I didnt think you could really beat him senseless,
but you kicked the gold out of the "Golden Boy".

Oscar got old tonight - right there in the ring. Came in lighter than predicated (by almost 14 pounds), no defense, no head movement and he was constantly hit and turned by an outstanding and lightning fast Pac-Man and threw nothing back, NOTHING! This was a total shut out in the vein of Bernard Hopkins vs. Kelly Pavlik only Pavlik had the balls to actually finish the fight and attempt to fight back.
Manny was in great shape, looked granite hard and fought an outstanding tactical fight.
Oscar should keep on promoting and doing his sterling charity work and avoid ever taking another unnecessary beating like that again. Man, he got old...fast.
Congratulations to Manny - what a dream result against almost every predication!

Exactly,
Oscar,
just be a promoter and continue with your charity projects. Since you and Perry both have more money than God and you have done some spanish music albums, maybe a duet for charity could be done.

What impressed me the most was the way he unselfishly attacked the body when he was well ahead and made De La Hoya immobile. After that Oscar was nothing more than a heavy bag. And like a heavy bag he couldn't hit back. Those body shots eventually brought Oscar's hands down and then he attacked the face. Brilliant game plan, brilliant execution and a brilliant result. Pacquiao may get a 20+ million dollar payday if he can lure Mayweather out of retirement. What a fight that would be. Some Plokkers were nice enough to invite Tito and I over to their house. Watching the fight with 20 Pinoys was like being at the fight!!! Man, did it get loud.![]()

Oscars right eye was already closing at the end of round one. Both were reddened. Manny was systematically attacking the head with an unanswered double jab, hook combination. His jab slipped through Oscars guard and slammed into Oscar's face from almost the start. The body shots, when they came just added insult to injury.
This immobile De La Hoya was a better business man in this fight than he was a boxer. All credit to Manny for a fantastic technical display but in the end I think the Golden Boy invested in the result and dove like a fish.
Incidentally Oscar had pledged to pay Manny an additional $3 million dollars for every pound he came in over 147 and hit the scales at the official weigh in at 145. Manny weighed in at 142 having just left the gym at 145. Roach and Manny have both publicly stated that they felt the scales were doctored in fact you can see the disbelief in Roach's face when Manny's weight is announced. If Manny was 145 that would make Oscar at least 148. Oscar probably bet this additional cash, as well as a whole lot more, on a Round 8 stoppage with 40 to 1 odds.
De La Hoya has done a lot of good for the sport over the years and I am sure he thinks he is doing so now by elevating the Pac-Man's status and clearing the way for some mega money fights but the whole thing stinks.
On the other hand it is still possible that Oscar bet on himself and lost a whole bunch after becoming gun shy in the ring - as recently evidenced with the once great Roy Jones Jr taking a one sided beat down from the feather fisted Joe Calzaghe despite Slappy Joe being an easy target.![]()
Either way my guess is Manny's next opponent will be Ricky Hatton.

Do it in Spanish in a TexMex Restaurant, Tell the waiter if he doesn't get moving like Speedy Gonzales this is what you're gonna do to him. That will be some funny shit.
Roy's still somewhat fast, but he's completely lost his confidence and a lot like De La Hoya is afraid to pull the trigger. Calzaghe is extremely elusive and was doing what Jones used to do...when he could do it. Calzaghe is a great fighter and one extremely tough motherfucker. I've seen enough of his fights and he's gotten off of his ass more than a few times and punished his opponent. He's relentless.finalfight wrote:Saint John wrote:

He was in that fight. He came straight ahead and for the most part had Roy backed against the ropes or in a corner. It was completely frustrating when Calzaghe was goofing off and sticking his head through Roy's guard. You just knew if Roy's brain let him throw something back with his reflexes he would find the target but he just stayed immobile. I was literally shouting at the screen for Roy to throw anything back - even a head butt!![]()
It was a sad end for RJJ and Calzaghe had yet another lucky escape. The man has the most padded record in boxing.
