God i'm fucking fired up for this NFL season. Thank god I'm a tennis fan too or else I wouldn't have had shit to watch for 3 months. Baseball is about as interesting as watching my scrotum hairs grow just before my grundle starts

The Cleveland curse almost got to Mr.McCoy already, it's only a matter of time before living in Cleveland alone ends this kids career, even sitting on the bench getting a mentor help from interception machine daylight Delhomme. Poor guy.

Football.Riveting sport.
20 seconds of play, then lots of standing around.Players walking off the pitch, somebody else coming on.
Then stand around, then 15 seconds of play. Then pound your chest, then walk off .
3 hours later....................
Jesus loves you ,but everybody else thinks you're a knob.

Be apart of one 1 Oklahoma drill and you'll change your mind real quick. You can say that about every sport. Every sport has some kind of rotation. Hockey has it, Basketball has it and Baseball's biggest physicality is sliding into second base. The outfielders get paid millions to once in awhile try to make a diving catch or snag a home run ball. Playing ball, I played all Special teams, offense & defense. Running down on special teams at full speed and trying to break up a wedge can cause your brain to explode. Running from sideline to sideline during a 12 play drive for a defense is so exhausting and beating your head in one others that it's a challenge to get in your stance at times. Being a corner and running backwards, pivoting and what not is a different challenge in itself and body movement is awkward at full speed. Oxygen is hard to come by in football than any other sport.

Welcome to the NFL, Tebow. You will NOT be getting away with that bulldozing over people in the NFL at will like you did at Florida. This was against talent that won't make it on NFL rosters. What do you think the starting defensive units hit like?

Percy Harvin collapses at Vikings camp. Migraines. Hopefully this won't end a promising young career for this kid.

If I had enough time to filter in and out I'd set it up. I wouldn't want to not over-look it. I'd rather have someone else set it up and have it stabilized. Last year a lot of people didn't even look at their rosters. Any takers?

I'll get in on it only if I can draft Polamalu's hair. Not Troy himself. Just his hair.

j/k. Fantasy leagues are off limits to me. Much like my concert curse (i know i've posted about that), I also have a sports curse. Last time I did a fantasy football roster, all my quarterbacks got hurt, including Steve Young - my FF year ended up his last season. After that the boys wouldn't let me play fantasy football anymore.

Steelers Cut Roster With 6 Moves; SI Picks Them For Super Bowl
Pittsburgh Releases Players To Meet NFL Limit Of 75

PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers trimmed their player roster to the NFL-mandated limit of 75 on Tuesday morning by cutting four players and putting one more on the physically unable to perform list.

Released were offensive tackle Adrian Jones, linebacker Brandon Renkart, cornerback David Pittman and fullback Dwayne Wright. None of those four were on the team last year.

Offensive tackle Chris Scott, a fifth-round draft pick from Tennessee, went on the PUP list with a foot injury that has prevented him from practicing. The Steelers said he'll be out six weeks.

Also, linebacker Andre Frazier was waived from the reserve/injured list. He had been placed on the list with a season-ending knee injury earlier this month.

More moves will be made to reduce the roster as the season opener on Sept. 12 gets closer.

We'll send the latest Pittsburgh sports headlines to your phone or e-mail every day... just sign up here.

Sports Illustrated's 2010 NFL preview issue goes on sale Wednesday, and it includes a prediction that the Steelers will win their seventh Super Bowl title -- even though quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is suspended to begin the season.

Senior writer Peter King is picking the Steelers to win the AFC North Division with an 11-5 record and beat the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV.

Here's an excerpt of King from the new SI issue:

“The Steelers’ MVP might be Roger Goodell. At press time it appeared likely the commissioner would reduce Roethlisberger’s suspension from six games to four for good behavior -- Roethlisberger spent the summer kissing babies and signing every autograph within miles at training camp. Byron Leftwich and/or Dennis Dixon should be able to navigate a friendly first-month schedule (Atlanta, at Tennessee, at Tampa Bay, Baltimore) and hand Roethlisberger a 3-1 team when he returns. A six-game suspension? That would be trouble, obviously.”

Does this dude EVER pick right? I kind of feel dirty that he picked us to win the Super Bowl over the Pack this season. The curse is on. Even though I hate all the media attention and would rather have every national media circuit out there by pass the Steelers, it still is nice to see some respect shoved our way after all the off-season turmoil. Atleast one MAJOR sports magazine remembers that Pittsburgh has a pro football team with 6 titles. I picked the Pack to win the championship this season but this is bound to fail miserably.

Roethisberger to get 3?

Sources: Steelers QB wants shorter ban

By Sal Paolantonio
ESPN

In Friday's meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Ben Roethlisberger's representatives plan to ask the commissioner to reduce the six-game suspension by at least three games, bringing along team president Arthur J. Rooney II to the New York meeting to support the quarterback's case, sources with knowledge of upcoming proceedings told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.

Roethlisberger was suspended in April for six games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy a week after prosecutors decided not charge him in a case involving a 20-year-old college student who accused him of sexually assaulting her in a Georgia nightclub in March.

At the time, Goodell pledged to consider reducing the length of the suspension if Roethlisberger complied with a number of league imposed conditions, including a comprehensive behavioral evaluation, and stayed clear of any other off field problems.

Most observers believe Goodell has had in his mind all along to reduce the suspension by two games to four. But Roethlisberger's attorney, David Cornwell, is expected to ask for a greater reduction in the suspension, according to those with knowledge of discussions between the commissioners office and the quarterback's representatives.

Some in the Roethlisberger camp have argued since Roethlisberger is the first player suspended by Goodell under the personal conduct policy who has not been arrested, charged with or convicted of a crime, he should not be suspended more than two games. His camp has always considered the six game suspension too harsh. But few believe Goodell will go that far, and some in the Roethlisberger camp do not want to anger the commissioner by asking for too much.

Goodell wrote to Roethlisberger in April: "The Personal Conduct Policy makes clear that I may impose discipline 'even where the conduct does not result in conviction of a crime' as, for example, where the conduct 'imposes inherent danger to the safety and well being of another person' ....or conduct that 'undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the NFL.' "

At the time of the suspension, Rooney released a statement agreeing with and supporting the Goodell's ruling. It's not known what role Rooney will play during Friday's meeting between the commissioner and Roethlisberger.

If the suspension is reduced to four games, as expected, Roethlisberger would presumably spend the Steelers bye in Week 5 getting ready to start at home against the Cleveland Browns in Week 6 -- giving him two weeks of preparation for his first game back.

Hell, by this point, I don't see why not since Goodell is holding possibly one of the worst double standard rules attended to certain players this season that it's beyond laughable. It's okay for Michael Vick to be involved in a shooting with ties to a birthday night club, countless numbers of DUI's being let slide by multiple players within the same organization, Pro athletes like Vince Young caught on tape for beating a fan & letting other players slide, like Santonio Holmes, who violated the NFL policy but yet gets to practice with teammates, gets to watch game film and train on the facility while a player like Roethlisberger, who wasn't arrested or convicted by allegations, isn't allowed to have such privileges. Goodell is fucking up the whole entire system into a laughing stock. That would be sweet if Ben gets 3, just in time to spank the Ravens in a big divisional game. I still think it'll be 4 though.

Like I said right after this dope drafted Tebow in the 1st round, this McDaniels is a train wreck. I'm glad he's running the Broncos! :D

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/1388 ... utdown-day
The Denver Broncos: Elvis Dumervil is out for the season. LenDale White is out for the season. Jarvis Green can't make the team. Tim Tebow isn't ready to play. And San Diego is still in the AFC West. Good luck, Josh McDaniels. You're going to need it.

Josh McDaniels, head coach, Denver: I presume he's the guy behind trading away a first-round pick for defensive back Alphonso Smith in the 2009 draft. Well, this just in: He dumped Smith for tight end Dan Gronkowski which means ... you spent a first-round draft pick on a tight end who was the 255th draft pick -- or next to last -- and who didn't fit in with the Lions, who cut him twice. Great. I also presume McDaniels was the genius behind signing defensive lineman Jarvis Green to that four-year, $20 million deal. It made sense because McDaniels and Green were on the same side in New England, so McDaniels had the book on the guy. Only he must have had the wrong one. Memo to McDaniels: Stick to coaching and leave personnel to somebody, anybody, else.

He's fine. I guess this is why players like their guaranteed contracts to perform and take care of themselves in the long run. You just never know when things like this could occur only to end a career.

Thursday September 9th, 2010.

NFL WEEK 1 special:

Minnesota @ New Orleans: Like I said on my facebook, I was thinking about bringing up my Xmas tree today because I got confused and realized that football season is the same feeling I had when I was a 6 year old little bastard on Xmas morning. No way Saints lose this one. That place is going to explode with a frenzied crowd celebrating their first Championship and the Dome was loud to begin with. Favre was lifting bails of hay 3 weeks ago on a bum ankle, and their top tier WR's had some bad omens during this offseason, including Percy Harvin and his migraines. Last year, Favre had Cleveland to get him back to pace. New Orleans isn't Cleveland. Saints by 11.

That NFC South is historic for fluctuating year by year with teams who have won the division one year and completley falling in the depths of the basement the next. At that givin logic, the Panthers very well could creep back up and snag the Division Title givin the history of not ONE team repeating in the South year by year. Still, the Saints are strong and Brees/Payton have that Brady/Bellichick relationship going on. If you want to be the Champs, gotta beat the Champs I suppose.

That's exactly what I saw too. Where's the holding dammit? I'm not one to call foul, but Jesus Christ was that holding haha. Looks like after the dust settles and once the chess match begins, the coaches go to work. Been a good defensive showing since. Adjustments. Great game so far. Blocked extra point could kill them.

Wow, this QUICKLY turned into a defensive struggle. Back and forth. Both defense's playing great sound D, with great open field tackles. New Orleans got some nice gashes on the ground but Minny covered well since. Might go down to the wire here. One mistake could be the ballgame.

Very surprised that the Saints turned to the running game that they did and gashed the Vikes run D, who was one of the best in the league the past couple seasons. P.Thomas looked great runnin downhill and stepped up big time and out physicaled that D line. Great game.

NFL WEEK 1

Carolina at NY Giants: Carolina finished last season winning 4 out of their last 5. They got rid of longtime starter, interception machine Jake Delhomme and plug in a young guy in Matt Moore to run the QB position. Their running game is still potent and the NFC SOUTH seems to fluxiate every year. Carolina could be a sleeper but the Giants are poised to show their the real team in N.Y and they are out to prove that last season was a fluke, failing to make the playoffs after a 5-0 start. Giants are TOUGH to beat at home, esp a NEW home. Giants by 13.

Atlanta at Pittsburgh: Rough off season for Pittsburgh. Like the Giants, the Steelers, even without Big Ben, are poised to prove that last season was a fluke. They are healthy on defense and return the two all-pro players that make their defense tick in Polamalu and Aaron Smith. Atlanta has the tools and weapons (Ryan, Turner,White, Gonzalez) to light up NFL scoreboard and have an improved defense, but noone comes into Heinz Field and shows the Steelers up defensively. Ryan is only in his 3rd year and never saw a complex defense like Pittsburgh. This could come down to the wire. If Atlanta doesn't respect Dixon, I feel Dixon could make them pay but until they show me that they can hold 4th qrt leads, score in the red-zone and win without Roethliseberger, then I'm saying we lose a close one. They WILL prove me wrong. Atlanta by 2.

Cleveland at Tampa Bay: Pretty much NO talent across the board. Tampa Bay has some years to go in their rebuilding years, esp on defense and Cleveland is in that same process, bringing in interception machine Jake Delhomme from Carolina. Even though this game might smell like turds, Delhomme does offer Cleveland that experience stability and he sure can give them a chance to be in games and possibly pull some out. Cleveland by 3.

Denver at Jacksonville: These are two teams that are just as up in the air as the other. Jacksonville shows no passion but seems to always start strong and tail off at the end. They compete in a TOUGH division and Denver seems to have that same exact formula. McDaniel's has his work cut out for him this season since Denver overachieved last year early and lost their best defensive player in Dummerville, but the Savior might get some snaps this week. Still, Jacksonville seems to start hot and play exceptionally at home. Jax by 7.

Indianapolis at Houston: UPSET: : I'm saying this is FINALLY the year that Houston pops their playoff cherry. They compete in a rough division and will always be chasing Indianpolis, but playing at HOME with the weaponary against a team that they need to go through to reach their goal is going to be tougher than ever, but if they want to be taken serious, they win this game that they normally gag away. They NEED to make a statement here, and that's a tough thing to do against Peyton Manning. Houston by 6.

Miami at Buffalo: Buffalo might just make a push to be THEE worst team in the entire NFL this season. They are just a mess and have no chance to even show up in the AFC EAST. Henne to Marshall could be something special and don't forget that they can run STILL run the best wild-cat in the league. Miami by 17.

Detroit at Chicago: Everyone quickly forgot about the trade last season to aquire Cutler since he has a compleltley miserable season in guiding the Bears to a very bad record. Cutler still has noone to throw to, but Urlacher should bolster up that D that carried Chicago in the past. Detroit will be improved this year and will be a handful for many teams, but on the road playing at Soldier Field could be too much for a young QB in Stafford to handle. Chicago by 10.

Oakland at Tennessee: Intriguing matchup. Tennessee will be an AFC team that will be back in the mix. That 0-6 start to last season had to be the most embarassing start ever to their franchise, but Vince Young quickly came in and won them 9 games. Say what you want about his leadership, but the man flat out has the knack to win. Oakland bringing in Campbell will offer them insurance to compete in the AFC WEST but playing at Tennessee is one of the most hardest places to play and we all know Johnson is going for over 2,000 this season. Tennessee by 10.

Cincinnati at New England: One of the best matchups of the week. I HAVE to give Cincy the slight up, matchup wise judging by their new and improved, stout defense that could swarm and now batter but that off-sets with Wes Welker in the lineup and I bet Tom Brady can't wait to get Welker back in his holster. New England is almost unbeatable at home and I feel Palmer and those two clowns aren't as good as everyone might think. New England by 14.

Arizona at St. Louis: Yawn. Derek Anderson in, Leinart to Houston. The Bradford era begins. Say hello to the wheels on the bus that is Steven Jackson. Hopefully that o-line doesn't get thier young QB killed.
Arizona by 6.

San Francisco at Seattle : San Fran is that one team that I'd love to watch closely this season. Singleterry has really brought that team back to serious and physical football, on BOTH sides of the ball and Alex Smith could have a breakout year. He's got Gore behind him and Vernon Davis, who just signed a big contract, to throw to, to make plays happen. Seattle has a winning forumla bringing in Carrol from USC, but their team doesn't look to make any noise this season. San Fran by 10.

Green Bay at Philadelphia: Until Matt Kolb can prove himself in the league, it's tough looking on the other sidelines to see the new generaton of studs in Aaron Rodgers ready to tear some shit apart. If GB can plug the right players in that 3-4, and if that o-line learns how to protect Rodgers, then the sky is the limit for Green Bay. Rodgers is going to torch everyone he plays, including Philly. GB by 17.

Dallas at Washington : McNabb is questionable and of course, Dallas knows how to play him and vice versa. Washington has a H.O.F coach in Shananhan and WASH could be a wildcard team if they ever take their head out their ass, and that doesn't seem to be happening with the Haynesworth situation. Shannonhan's tenure didn't start too well and it won't get better this week with a Dallas team that could make major noise, esp on defense. Dallas by 8.

MON, SEP 13
Baltimore at NY Jets : Another intriguing matchups of the week. The trash talk for this game speaks for itself. Put up or shut up for BOTH AFC teams that look to make a Super Bowl run. This might be the slug-fest of the year even though Baltimore is a wet wounded dog on defense. Time to put up or shut up for Rex Ryans fat mouth. That N.Y stadium, on Monday Night will be absolutley nuts. Jets by 3.

San Diego at Kansas City: San Diego owns the WEST even though they start out losing every year but seems to win 12 games a season. Phillip Rivers is a player that you can't take lightly and Kansas City is just awful and Matt Cassel doesn't seem to be the long term solution there. This could be an early trap for San Diego since KC is one of the loudest places to play in the NFL, but if San Diego ever wants to get to the Super Bowl then they win in their division at all costs. San Diego by 20.
