I know there are people who TRULY can not afford to pay for healthcare and so of course a program like Medicaid is needed for them, and of course I fully support that for people who TRULY NEED it. But I'm sorry, it's the ones who ABUSE it that I am fed up with. Entitlement mentality in this country is at the worst I've ever seen it, and it's driving this country into the ground.

My biggest pet peeve is those people that drink and smoke and can't "afford" insurance. But you can "afford" cigarettes and beer. But you can't "afford" the insurance that will pay your COPD, lung cancer, cirrhosis of the liver, bill.

And then there are people like me who DO Drink and Smoke, are self-employed, and have my own HSA Account, Life Insurance, and savings for a rainy day, and all I get is people wanting to take more of it from me. Damned near every time I turn around. And I ain't rich, not by any means, It could all crumble down tomorrow,..... that's what I'm saving for.

Great thread guy and gals...I must say these MR gals ROCK! :)

How about LTC. Something I've had since way before the Obama years. Obviously I don't want to end up spending everything I have and then end in some nursing home paid for by SS. Obama was pushing this awhile ago. Is it worth it??

Dean, I gotta ask you a question, a serious, sincere question. You have talked a few times here about the moral and ethical obligation of our society to take care of those who can't take care of themselves. Do you believe partial-birth abortion is ok? It is a yes or no questioin - there is no "if the mother's life is at risk" answer, because that argument is not factually sound (in other words, there are no documented cases where this procedure performed on the baby in and of itself is required to prevent the mother from dying). Not asking about first trimester abortions, that's a totally different animal.

I hate abortion, let's get that straight right now. I also think it should be a very personal decision and not a political one. It is a very private matter. Having said that, and this hurts me to say, is I have to go with the woman's choice here. I personally hate it mind you...but her body comes first. That's just the evil unfortunate truth. Now I feel sick.

I see abortion as being on par with a parent molesting their child. You've both coldly and callously betrayed the life of someone innocent, with no voice or ability to fend off your attack. Hell, even a father that creeps into his daughter's bedroom at night and molests her is affording her some sort of life. How is a woman that snuffs out the life of her child because she couldn't keep her legs closed any worse than the father in the aforementioned example? Give the child up for adoption, you selfish cuntrag. Regardless, aborters and molesters should share bunk beds in hell. But I really don't have much of an opinion on the topic.

Oh, please, that is so not true.

Most Americans wanted a war in Iraq and Afghanistan for 'free'. In fact, most people thought we would get something out if it...like better security, cheaper oil, a shiny example of 'democracy' in the middle-east. That is what we expected, but not what happened at all.

In fact, Rick, I remember YOU posting to the Water Cooler and making fun of Madonna for recording a song or video against the war in Iraq, saying something like, "How embarrassing it will be if the war is over before this is even released!" Guess you are just not a 'true' American. How embarrassing for you.

America did not want to face the sacrifices...we were shielded from the body bags or any real consequences of this war. America went about their lives and were told to wrap their house in shrink-wrap if there was another terror attack...so support the war. It was not until it start dragging on and on and had no end in sight....and the skeptics, like me, were proved right, that people started asking the right questions.

Meanwhile, as America embarks on a 2 year voyage to Hell, the republicans take over the House, hell bent on cutting everything the rich don't need, subpeoning everything in sight, and trying to repeal healthcare, which is impossible to do. God, are we in a great shape now or what? God help us.

First day, no scratch that- first MINUTE on the job, good ol John Boehner cries. This is going to get old real fast. What a strong leader you all have over there.

EmailPrint.. AP – House Speaker-designate John Boehner of Ohio wipes away tears as he waits to receive the gavel from outgoing … .By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Laurie Kellman, Associated Press – 41 mins ago
WASHINGTON – The chin started trembling partway down the center aisle as the applause rose to a roar. John Boehner, the emotional Ohioan about to become the House's new speaker, took his time, shaking hands with colleagues and their children on his way to the rostrum. At its foot, the hankie came out.

"It's still just me," he told the House after departing Speaker Nancy Pelosi, dry-eyed, handed Boehner his outsized "gavel of choice."

It is known to bug Boehner that he can't keep it together at big moments, but apparently it runs in the family. At the moment Pelosi transferred power to her successor, at least six hankies had been deployed by Boehner's proudly weeping family members watching from the gallery overhead.

By any measure, Wednesday was a dramatic time for the Boehners, Congress and a recession-weary nation that had voted two months earlier to break the Democrats' grip on Washington power. In the 112th Congress, Democrats still hold the majority of the Senate and President Barack Obama owns the veto pen. The House, though, will be run by Boehner and a Republican caucus determined to undo much of the Democrats' work — starting with Obama's signature health care overhaul.

Now, it's the Democrats SOLE responsibility, to block EVERY single attempt by these assholes agenda. Deny them EVERYTHING they desire. Fuck them.

I actually have to agree with you Deano. Gibbs elucidates the President's positions very well and is good Press Secretary. I disagree with about 95% of what he says, but you can't fault the guy for his job performance.

Yeah because tears make one weak.

I think you would find that a person who wears their emotions on their sleeve is far more honest than a person who stoicly sits there with a botox injected face and lies to you with wonderful snippets like "Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra: pay as you go."

Christ even I gave the Democrats a chance in 2006, when they took over and the President a chance when he was elected.

You guys don't deserve a chance. You had your chance during W's regime, and fucked the country up. Then we got in, and you guys wouldn't allow us to do a single fucking thing. Having said that, the Dems STILL accomplished some great things the past two years.

YOU guys are the problem with Washington. YOU, the GOP. They aren't going to get a single thing done with regards to jobs or healthcare. Tax cuts are NOT the answer. They will witch hunt and find small things, waste taxpayer money ala Kenneth Starr and that sonofabitch Daniel Issa will single handidly bring shame, or more shame to Washington. The Dems will regain control in 2012 and keep the White House. Guaranteed.

I am sure glad we have the Senate and White House. Health care can't possibly be repealed.

I am so glad you are more intelligent that all the voters that threw the spend-a-holic democrats out Dean. Yeah, seem Mr. Poli-Sci you forget we have a representative form of government (or are supposed to) and EVERYONE who gets elected deserves a chance.

Oh and on healthcare...never say never...there are enough intelligent democrats that see the healthcare law is a TERRIBLE law...good idea mind you, just badly executed...and Obama isn't going to be around forever.

I would say that the country got MORE fucked up since the Dems had control of congress...Yeah the republicans shit the bed from 2001 to 2005, but then the dems came in a smeared the shit all over the place.

Notice I didn't say YOU, Deano, when referring to the democrats. Please stop trying to put me in with the republicans. Yes they would (on the surface at least) have more in common with my political beliefs but I am not a republican.

I am a conservative fiscally, and when it comes to government programs being handed out willy-nilly, but I am liberal on some VERY important social ideals.

Even most Americans aren't too stupid to see through Issa's veil. He's a walking double-standard bearing hypocrite - full of hot air and little else.

I'm still hopeful that the GOP, now in power in the House, will be forced to meet the Democrats halfway on some policies going forward. They can't play the blame game anymore - and besides, a little fiscal restraint is probalby a good idea at this point.

Issa will leave Congress after his term a very hated person. He is the newe Kenneth starr.

Why should Obama be afraid? His administration is nothing at all what Issa accused him of being. Issa said and I quote, " this is the most corrupt administration in American history." I guess Danny slept through the early 2000's?

The electorate will NOT like the with hunt that is about to be embarked upon.

A little? A LOT...of course neither the republicans from 2001 to 2005 or the democrats of the last 4 years have shown much in the way of fiscal discipline...but someone now has to pay the check that has come due.

I haven't been paying attention to Issa, other than he said he is going to have hearings on one thing or another.

Yeah...the electorate that now has (according to polls anyway) George W. Bush on equal footing popularity-wise with President Obama, and who delivered the {resident a stinging rebuke in regards to his policies in the last election, isn't going to like Issa making sure everything is on the up and up...yeah ok.

If Issa hunts and finds nothing, the President is good, in fact he looks like a great man...if Issa hunts and finds something then the President could be in a LOT of trouble. I actually hope Issa looks and finds nothing. Our country needs or politicians focused on fixing shit...not beating each other up.

If you look behind the numbers, Stu, it wasn't so much a rebuke of his policies as it was apathy in his base. By a slight but significant majority, Americans still believe Democrats are overall better equipped to run the House and Senate. Obama's wishy-washedness, centrism, and lack of inspiration took the wind out of the sails of many of those who voted for him...they still lean to the left, but feel disenfranchised.

What, exactly, does Issa hope to uncover? Why not go in there and take care of business, to help his constituency, and help the recovery, instead of going on a witch hunt? You can't really find a parallel on the other side of the aisle, because the Democrats really haven't engaged in witch hunts like this in the past three decades. I think Issa could really damage the credibility of his party if he takes it too far.

Amtrak is first up on Issa's radar. I have tons of friends who still work there and are looking at this with great interest. They (wrongfully), fired their Inspector General, and as you all know, GOP hates rail(a threat to air, roadways(oil consumption) and political dollars). It's all political. The GOP is going to propose, stupidly I might add, elimination of so many good, viable programs, that they will indeed reach too far and they will face the backlash in 2 years. Rest easy 7 Wishes.

The good thing I can already see, is for the next two years, we on the left get to go on the offensive...it's a nice change. You think RWF and LF were brutal. Wait til I get it revved up.
