What the hell are you talking about? Are you talking about Gary Doak? I'm pretty sure that Gary Doak was retired before Gretsky's career even started! On another note, GREAT game one. As for the off sides or not off sides, it doesn't really matter. I watched the play 17 times in super slo-mo and still couldn't tell. I honestly don't think either team would have had a beef whether it was called or not, because it was really that close. The bottom line is that Vancouver is a VERY talented team. They led the NHL is most goals, fewest goals given up, best power play, best penalty kill and most points out of any team in the NHL during the regular season. With all of those numbers, they should probably sweet the Bruins. Tim Thomas absolutely stood on his freakin' head last night. Dude was immense and outplayed Luongo (who had a few good saves, but nothing close to what Thomas did throughout the game). The Bruins problem is that their power play blows. It's tough to beat a team as talented as Vancouver when you can't score on a 5 on 3 PP. Julien needs to get Chara away from the front of the net on the PP because he's fucking useless down there. Dude has a 10 foot stick that he trips over and can't knock in any rebounds. Put this giant fucker back on the blue line where he belongs and let him blast that 100+ mph shot.

Here's another couple to chew on:

I'm not impressed with Wayne Gretzky's career, and not impressed with DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak....let it fly.

And Pedro should've gotten the CY in '02, and Williams the MVP in '41.....

Right...for all of 11 games, but why were you calling him "Bob"?

Seven Wishes wrote: Do you think the Bruins still have a shot?!!!!!

It's sports. Of course they have a shot. Hell, I thought the Patriots would lose to the Rams by three touchdowns in the 2001 Super Bowl, but so did everyone else. As Chris Berman always says..."That's why they play the games". That said, on paper, Vancouver is a FAR more talented team than the Bruins are and MUCH better skaters. The last time the Bruins reached The Finals, they were forced to go against Gretsky, Messier, Kurri, Coffee, Fuhr and others and got crushed. This Vancouver team is nowhere near that good, but based on pure talent, they should win the series. I think the Bruins only real hope in this series is Tim Thomas putting together a few more games like the one he played last night. The unfortunate thing is that Thomas played about as well as any goaltender could play and still got the loss. We shall see what Game 2 brings on Saturday night.

Point on. Chara is an absolute waste down there. He has no hand eye coordination. During a tip drill in practice, he managed to get one out of ten tips...not exactly Ryan Smythe, or Kesler like.

I bet you Julien puts him back on the point for Saturday. And to another point you make. If BOS can't score on the PP, 5 on 3 even, that is going to deter VAN from running over and through the B's...they won't taking a penalty.

PS- CBC slow moed it down, and Kesler WAS ONSIDES. He kept the toe on the line. It was very clear to see.

That may be so...but you couldn't tell that in real time. You HAD to slow it down to see it was onsides. So my question is what did the ref see in REAL time to make that decision? He was just lucky to get it correct. Which was my point. Especially when it is not reviewable....

You really are fucked up in the head. You want him to call it offsides because it was so close and happened so fast? He called it like he SAW it, and he was right there in great position. Jesus, for someone who claims to have "logic" you could have fooled me. You are just fuckin strange.

Yeah...well, that's just my cross to bear: being fucking strange. Reminds me of those great, great NFL refs who are always in great position, and call them like they SEE them....problem is, a good percentage of the time they didn't see what they thought they SAW. Thank the Sky Wizard for instant replay. They makes calls based on seeing things that weren't there....just extrapolating....

Gretsky was a great offensively skilled player. That said, he wouldn't have half the points he complied if ANYONE would have ever hit the little fucker. Dude skated around in the NHL completely untouched for 20 freakin' years!

S2M wrote: not impressed with DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak

Why not? I am. Nobody has come remotely close since, so that says something about the accomplishment.

S2M wrote: Pedro should've gotten the CY in '02

It pains me to say this, but I agree with you. Zito had three more wins than Pedro but Zito pitched 30 extra innings for those 3 extra wins. Those is the Zito camp will say that's why he should have won and did win the award. My counter is that Pedro pitched 30 fewer innings but struck out 50 more batters in far fewer innings than Zito did. The other thing that's tough to ignore is that although both guys had great, sub three ERA's, Pedro was a half run lower than Zito and lost one fewer game, while posting an ABSURD 0.27 WHIP (1.15 is considered dominant these days)!

S2M wrote:and Williams the MVP in '41.....

Once again, I agree with you. Although DiMaggio's hitting streak impressed me far more than it impressed you, I'm not sure how a guy who hits .406 doesn't win an MVP and a landslide vote. The greatest thing about Ted Williams is that the final day of the 1941 season, he was hitting .399.91 which got rounded up to .400. The Sox were playing a double-header and his Manager asked him if he wanted to sit out to preserve the unheard of .400 average. Williams not only played both games, but raised his average by 6 points in the process. That would NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER happen with one of today's players. I don't care which fucker it is...he is sitting out to preserve that average. If high average guys like Tony Gwynn, Wade Boggs, and George Brett couldn't get close to .400, I don't see it ever happening again. It's a VERY impressive accomplishment.

"After reviewing the incident, including speaking with the on-ice officials, I can find no conclusive evidence that Alex Burrows intentionally bit the finger of Patrice Bergeron," Murphy said in a statement.

For what it's worth, I find the statement to be ridiculous. I personally don't care who gets suspended and who doesn't but to claim to "accidentally" bit a guy's finger is just plain fucking stupid!

John, you may or may not agree with my reasoning here....I'm not impressed because he got some of those hits late in games against tired pitchers...that wasn't exactly the relief pitcher era. Today's players get fresh relief pitchers, specialty pitchers, and dominant closers....If Andre Ethier ever faced Rivera 10 years ago needing a hit to extend a streak...it was - too bad, so sad....I'm not surprised today's players haven't sniffed it. I guess the only way it is sort of impressive is that no other player from THAT era came close....but other than that - meh.....

As far as Gretzky goes...you hit it dead on...Dude wasn't touched. He was allowed to skate anywhere - with no consequences. His stats are padded. Plain and simple....

Of course he had talent. So didn't Lindros, Jagr, and Lemieux....look where they are. Cause they got smoked. Especially in Gretzky's era when you WERE allowed to fucking annihilate an opposing player into next week..

What a horseshit post, along with all of you who rail against the greatest hockey player ever. Being "untouched" isn't his fault. You think there is no consequence if someone on Boston takes out one of the Twins? How about Sidney? Of course you are protected, as you should be. Don't be haters, because you weren't fans of Gretzky's teams.

Well, I wasn't a "fan", because I'm a Boston guy. That said, those Edmonton teams were the absolute BEST teams ever assembled in the history of the NHL, in my opinion. I actually don't blame Gretsky, at all. He was a little dude so didn't exactly have the build to take on most of the opposing players, so he was smart to get hit as little as possible. Mario, on the other hand, was a giant fucking pussy! Dude was 6'4" and about 240lbs (which was unheard of during his era) and he was too much of a wimp to mix it up with anyone. Fuck Lemieux and while I'm at it...fuck Shitsburgh!

I assume you are pimping the very good Detroit teams in the 80's? I agree to the total points argument, but Edmonton didn't have the scrub clubs playing, like Florida, Columbus, Nashville, Tampa Bay, Anaheim, or Atlanta. They had a better overall product during EDM's run. You agree?

The Islanders' dynasty of '80-'83 is still more impressive to me than the Oilers' winning five Cups in 8 years. No team will EVER win three, let alone four, in a row again.

Those Islander teams were great. I still remember the likes of Mike Bossy, Brian Trottier, and Billy Smith in net. That said, those Edmonton teams were FAR more stacked. Not even close, in my opinion.

Perhaps not, but I'm not sure how relevant it is. Didn't the Seattle Fucking Mariners set some sort of win record in the AL in the past 10 years with 114 wins, only to get smoked by the Yankees?
