That's just sad for a legend like Stevie Wonder. I wonder if they told him there were 20,000 in attendance?

The Bush Administration unequivocally - and knowingly falsely - attempted to tie Hussein and Iraq to 9/11. The rhetoric from his speeches, and the public statements made by Administration officials, is mind-boggling.

https://sgadaria.expressions.syr.edu/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Iraq-article_Gershkoff_Kushner.pdf

Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda link allegations were made by U.S. Government officials who claimed that a highly secretive relationship existed between former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and the radical Islamist militant organization Al-Qaeda from 1992 to 2003, specifically through a series of meetings reportedly involving the Iraqi Intelligence Service.

Yes - I am obviously aware that Iraq was tied to potential terrorism and their ties to or support of Al Queda. And I would be the first to say that Bush absolutely took advantage of the sentiment following 9/11 to go into Iraq. But I recall hearing him and others in the Admin say that Iraq was not involved with 9/11 but that our new policy of strike first ask questions later meant that we had to go into places like Iraq before they were capable of striking us (real or imagined).

Again - I personally think that Afghanistan was not a big enough target to quench the thirst that Americans had for revenge after 9/11. Someone had to pay. That's just what I think. It's why Bush had so much support.

Now, before you go into saying this is all different under Obama, think about things he may be exploiting. That same old war on terror has caused him to take the unprecedented move to allow for the killing or indefinite confinement of American citizens without due process. He took Bush's policies to a whole new level, like it or not. He has acted unilaterally to fight in other countries, etc. I'm for a lot of it, I'm against some of it. All I'm saying is don't expect Obama or Romney to work to decrease any of this. And don't pretend they are all that different.

This is merely a snapshot of the cumulative national polls. It is, therefore, not skewed, simply because it has the word "Huffington" in it.

Be it the storm or something else, Mitt's momentum sure came to a halt pretty quick. I think he's going to have a tough day Tuesday at this point. A week ago I would have answered differently.

Memorex wrote:I cannot think of one instance where the Bush administration tied Iraq to 9/11.

That's not what I said. They allow the belief to fester out in the public for years. They also consistently tried to tie Iraqwar to terrorism along with the belief of Saddam giving a bomb to terrorists...which is the equivalent of saying Hitler would give an atom bomb to the Jews.

Oh my God. You are actually going to blame Republicans for wanting tax cuts to get votes?

No, that's also not what I said, at least not all of it. Bush made the tax cut and THEN GAVE OUT EARLY RETURNS - a check in the mail. THAT is a political ploy. When Obama gave a middle income tax cut, there was no early return. And, it's largely forgotten, or ignored, because of it.

But the one thing I really have against the Democratic platform is it is entirely based on fear

Oh, please. The platform? Seriously? Hardly anybody cares about that...which is why I said it was a mistake to go and publicly amend it and do the vote. Let the FOX idiots whine about God and Israel.

W's entire Presidency was based on fear. Fear of terrorism, of WMD's, of another attack, terrorist cells in the US, and on and on and on. . That's a big part of how he was reelected....but it's not just about his reelection campaign - his entire Presidency revolved around how much fear could be generated in the public.

Like I said, modern day McCarthyism. Comparing a party platform to that is ridiculous.

The hatred toward Bush after the affects of 9/11 wore off were horrendous.

And, much of it was deserved. Like I said, he had a golden opportunity to bring the country together...instead he pulled it apart. The worst President in our history.

Both Katrina and Sandy are products of local leadership.

Not according to Christie...who said Obama asked him what he needed and Obama cut through the red tape to get it. He had high praise for Obama. No governor had those type of words for W...because he FAILED to lead. Instead, it became a finger pointing exercise to pass the blame. It's the governors fault, it's FEMA's fault, it's the people's fault for not evacuating. Note to W, "The first rule of leadership - EVERYTHING is your fault." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWSrwEYJBrg

If the patriot act was fine, why were so many people hating Bush for it and were so excited when Obama got elected so it could go away? But oops, presidents never give back power, so guess that was a fantasy.

I didn't say the patriot was 'fine', I say it's irrelevant. People hate Bush or Obama over it because they are ignorant. This type of spying of the people was happening LONG before the Patriot Act came around....and it would continue to happen if it was ended. Frankly, I think Obama probably did have the intentions of ending it...but when he learned more and found out that we were going to do this type of spying regardless, then we may as well have some framework to make it legal and somewhat controlled.

You are completely out of touch if you think the intelligent agencies of the US are going to allow the ability to scan every electronic communication and phone conversation to go unused. It has been happening since at least the Clinton years, probably long before that.[/url]

W was talking about getting rid of Saddam during the campaign to first be elected. That was ALWAYS his intention. 9/11 opened up an opportunity to make it happen....and then all of the various justifications started flowing.

LOL! You have spent the last six months or so quoting national polls over and over again...and with REAL emphasis since the first debate. Now that we are back to pre-debate numbers, basically, you want to go state by state and ignore the national polls. Too funny!

Mitt Romney has a running mate? Who's Paul Ryan? I haven't seen this guy anywhere. Too funny the Repub's are basically hiding this guy anyway they can from the public eye. I don't ever recall seeing any Ryan appearances, the VP debate withstanding.

I'm curious. This will probably piss people off, so I shouldn't even ask. But I will.

How would you guys define a typical Democrat voter and a typical Republican voter? I'm not talking the fringe stuff. I know each side sees the other as idiots. But clearly there are intelligent reasonable people on both sides. And of course whack jobs as well. :)

Unfortunately, I feel like to define a Democrat, I start with the fact that they hate Republicans and same on the other side. I wonder if people are starting to forget what they are for VS WHO they are against.

Watch Maddow and Hannity. All they do is talk about their hatred and disgust for the other party.

Anyway, just curious how people see each side. Being in the middle I see negatives and positives for both.
