How did Tareq get a naked picture of Schon? Unless Schon or his wife sent it to him?

Journey are "family friendly" compared to death metal bands or rap "musicians" but they are not truly family friendly.

Frankie Sullivan used to drop F-bombs at Survivor concerts all of the time, and Jim Peterik didn't like that and he wished that Sullivan would stop doing it. But that doesn't make Survivor a truly "family friendly" band.

I know of several accounts of how feuding band members have been in fist fights backstage or in other cases almost got in fist fights. If Neal is the nut that he's being portrayed as the last few years, then the odds are he would not be able to hide his hate for Cain backstage.

And like I mentioned, you can act "family friendly" on stage and still release a naked photo of yourself to the internet. Kids wouldn't be seeing it, or at least hopefully would not see it.

Bottom line is that Journey have been pulling publicity stunts in recent years. You probably won't agree with me on that, and I know that I won't agree with you that they haven't.

It's kinda great!

IMO, no it's not. It was great back when BE's Backlash was released, The Storm was released, FTLOSM was released, "Beyond the Thunder' was released, Back to the Innocence was released, Dream After Dream being released on CD for the first time, and gems like Just-if-I were found...and of course, the rumors of a Journey reunion - with or without Perry.

That was a fun time to be around; AOL, Prodigy, GEnie, the Journey mailing list, alt.music.journey, and Skylord's forum chatting because there was a TON of relevant things to talk about...and not just drama, though there was some of that, too.

Yeah. All of this shit-storm in recent years sucks. They're making me not want to go to anymore of their concerts.

Agree with the shit storms of the last few years.

What I think is great is the band is being retooled and Schon is promising new music. I skipped the last 2 tours and had no intention of going this year...and was barely paying attention. After this shakeup, I’ve now bought tickets and am completely re-engaged. The drama off stage and boredom on stage of the last several years is hopefully gone and maybe they’ll have a pulse on stage again. Maybe I can hear some different stuff again.

What I love about Journey is they can change and still sound like Journey. They have done nothing for 8 years. This firing news gives me hope that things are about to improve.

I also think it’s great to see the activity and old names again around here.

Journey was over and now it’s not. I think it’s great.

Well that kind of proves that if it WAS a publicity stunt it is working. I don't really believe it anymore with all the new information that has come out.

But wasn't Schon the one that said they were only going to play the hits on tour? I thought I read that somewhere.

I would be tempted to go myself if it was going to be different. Journey Through Time was cool but never came near me.

Yeah, one way or another this "hostile takeover" nonsense is getting the band a lot of publicity.

I would have been far more excited to see Journey Through Time in concert than to see Journey playing nothing but hits.

Hey Neal, do you like that Journey is just a jukebox band now???

If this is true, perhaps Perry was correct to kick Valory and Smith out of the band before Raised on Radio.

Maybe a new dynamic is what this band needs.

Oh, please. The only way to get a true "new dynamic" within Journey is to replace Neal. If you read the lawsuit, it basically says that nobody has contributed significantly to Journey, except Neal, Jonathan, and Steve Perry. So, changing; bass, drums, and lead singers (at this point) simply doesn't matter.

From what I remember, Herbie Herbert set up Journey so all the band members had an equal share. This kept harmony in the band. Everybody is equal.
But then in the 1980's, Steve Perry said, "My voice is what people recognize as Journey."
And Neal said, "Hey! Wait a minute, Sally! People hear my guitar and know the song is Journey."
And then Jon said, "I am the one writing all these ballads that made Journey a big success."
So, Perry kicked Ross and Steve Smith out of the band. Suddenly, Neal, Jon, and Perry were making one/third instead of one/fifth. Then in the late 1990's, Perry wants to chill, but Neal and Jon want to tour and make more new albums. Perry set up that deal where he 50% of the first album and first tour, and 25% and then 12.5% and so on. So, Perry got paid to do nothing, but Neal and Jon got to do what they love to do, and after a lot of hard work, they own the Journey name.
So, Ross who was there from the start and Steve Smith who came along for Evolution, they kinda got screwed. Maybe they aren't worth an equal share, but to keep peace and harmony, they should have been given one. It is a big hot mess!

Neal has previously posted how Valory was no help when it came to creating new Journey music. Cain is on-record (since Arrival actually) also being tepid about recording new Journey music. So of course it matters when a majority of band members - including the rhythm section - don't want to record.

I am well aware of your first point.

Just because Cain says that they're "family friendly" doesn't mean that it's true. I'm the king of England. There, see how easy it is!?!? Even if Cain tries to be family friendly it doesn't mean that Schon or the rest of the band are. Peterik wanted to be family friendly in Survivor, Sullivan didn't give a shit and would drop f-bombs on a regular basis, therefore, Survivor were not truly family friendly. Even cain said "sort of family-oriented" as in not completely family-oriented.

What kid is gonna google "Neal Schon naked" or something like that?

I am well aware of all of the publicity stunts that Michaela, her ex husband and Neal have pulled.

According to the lawsuit, Jon and Neal are Journey...they don't need the "permission" of the drummer, bassist, and lead singer to record anything. It is THEIR fault you do not get new music, not Ross, Steve Smith, or Arnel.

So, replace the sue happy, whiny bitch, and get a new guitarist and maybe that would change things so the band would want to record.

I think that Cain and possibly Azzoff are probably the main reason that Journey haven't released any new music since Eclipse?

If Schon and Cain are the equal co-owners of Journey, then Schon would not have been able to force Cain out of the band. And as we know a year or two back it sure seemed as if Schon was claiming that he was going to force Cain out of the band. Which is one of the past publicity stunts that I'm referring to, TNC. There was never any intention of forcing Cain out.

"Any Way You Want It" isn't a song for young kids. A song about fucking any way you want to.
"Homemade Love" isn't a song for young kids...a song about an adult fucking tween girls.
"Line of Fire" isn't a song for you kids....a song about murdering your cheating girlfriend.
Even songs like "Mother Mather" isn't for young kids...a song about divorce.
Or, "Stone In Love", fucking by the rail road tracks.
Or, on "Let it Rock You", during the break down in the middle of the song you can clearly hear Perry say, "Suck on this."

There is even an ROR interview where Neal, Jonathan and Steve go around talking about breast types they like, nice torpedo ones is what Perry says, think.

If Journey were a fucking Disney band, most of us would not be here. Yeah, they didn't go and record nothing but a bunch of perverted bullshit. But, they didn't record a bunch of kidz Bop muzic either.

So, Journey tries to fit in this notch where they are not "Air Supply" but they are not AC/DC either. They try to put one foot in both areas.

I would agree with that. But, the point of the original post was changing the dynamic within the band by replacing the drummer and bassist. That does not change anything, because according to the lawsuit - they don't matter. They do not contribute anything significant to Journey.

I posted not too long ago that Neal could not simply fire Jonathan. If Neal and Jonathan could not fire Perry and had to negotiate his exit, then the same would be true for Jonathan...it would not be that easy.

Neal threatens a lot of things...and I do not believe all of them.

Which is one of the past publicity stunts that I'm referring to, TNC. There was never any intention of forcing Cain out.

Well, I don't know about that. Maybe "Journey Through Time" was his attempt at starting fresh and not having all of this bullshit to worry about. But, obviously that didn't work out so he had to go back.

Maybe Jonathan was ready to side with Ross and Steve Smith. Remember, he did not vote against them. He has also expressed thoughts that seemed like he wanted to retire.

But, to your point, I think it's more Neal trying to get fan support for a new album. Which you could say is a "publicity stunt".

I know I never thought they were saints. They did seem to want to be what was going to be considered “commercial “.
However, there were very obvious indications that they were not “PG”. I remember asking someone about AWYWI which seemed pretty obvious to me but was told it absolutely had nothing to do with sexual undertones. But as far as exposing all these other songs...really?

Steve Augeri recently vaguely posted something along the lines of “if only you knew...” many are speculating it’s about Journey

I still would have liked to hear a Journey album with Jeff Scott Soto on lead vocals. That would have been some kickass rock and would have made Journey a brand new band even if the album didn't sell well.
I love Arnel and keeping the signature sound and everything, but Neal and Jon seem to go lukewarm on that. They need to make an album that sounds EXACTLY like 1983 or bring in Jeff Scott Soto and make something new sounding. But instead, they have Arnel and want to stretch in new directions.

Also, Gregg Rolie quit the band in 1980 and didn't get a penny. If he got 20% of Journey forever, he would be viewed as a dick. When Perry leaves and gets paid for doing nothing, he is a hero. Now, I feel bad for Gregg.

Stretching in a new direction is exactly what I want Journey to do. We don't need more of Cain's ballads. And if they do a ballad they should get more experimental like they did on Walking Away From The Edge.

Eclipse was a breath of fresh air compared to just rehashing a bunch of light Rock songs.

I agree with you on feeling bad for Rolie, to an extent.

Hard to compare Rolie and Perry. First off, I believe he did get paid. I recall Herbie saying that. Rolie left by his own choice. Perry was forced out. Perry was the main reason for success in the band and had been with the band during a significantly more lucrative time than Rolie. The money was nowhere near the same. Just not a realistic comparison in my opinion. No one is calling Perry a hero. He simply made a business deal. A deal that was agreed to by the other two stakeholders in the deal.

All of your examples are decades old. As the band's fans have evolved, so has the band. Yes, like many of their peers, they are considered a family friendly band these days. Get over it.

Neal certainly expressed his displeasure with Cain loudly over social media. Whether there was "intention or not" is complete conjecture on your part. Cain said that they were not on speaking terms during the tour. I believe him.

But Journey doesn't drop "f-bombs on a regular basis."
Do you actually have any examples of the band as it exists in it's present form?
More quotes from the band below regarding their family-leaning audiences these days.

"We’ve attained very young audiences, too, with like “Glee” hammering the tune and redoing it. We have a lot of kids in our audience. I look out and I see about four different generations."

"Audiences have changed and I have to say it’s for the better. They keep getting younger. Not that our older fans are bad, they’re still there, but I’m looking out and I’m seeing four generations of crowds now. And so it’s just spread out more and the demographics are like from 7 to 8 up into 60 to 65 or even older."

Journey/Survivor wrote:What kid is gonna google "Neal Schon naked" or something like that?

The cock pic was all over gossip sites like TMZ.
Are you seriously claiming that younger fans don't visit websites that routinely traffic in Kayne/Kardashian/Hilton/Swift-type rumor mongering on a daily basis?

You don't know anything. You are just making all sorts of disconnected claims without any proof.

He can be displeased all he wants. But, he can NOT fire him. It would be exactly the same as getting rid of Perry...lawyers negotiating his exit. That is simple common sense.

Yeah, and we are talking about a band that has not released an album in over 10yrs. They straddle the line of being "edgy" and being a boy band. That is who Journey have ALWAYS been. They are not AC'/DC, and they are not some Disney boy band.

I never debated whether or not Schon had the power to fire Cain. I don't care. The theory, put forward by Journey/Survivor, is that the Cain/Schon feud is just a stunt. I disagree. I think Andrew would too.

I never compared them to either band, so I'm really not quite sure what you are talking about.

If you disagree that the band is "family friendly" these days, take it up with Cain/Schon.

I compare them to those bands because they try to be both. Neal wants a hard rock band, Jonathan wants Air Supply.

LOL. They have been saying that for 40yrs. Jonathan even compared going to a Journey concert to going to church.

Then the last video from Eclipse people in THIS FORUM said it was essentially soft porn.
