Oh well, too bad for those that feel that way! I think it is absolutely wonderful for Steve Perry & the fans like me who love him!!!!

1.) Fans that accept Steve Augeri.
2.) Fans that do not accept Steve Augeri and choose to listen to older Journey music and be content with that.
3.) Fans that do not accept Steve Augeri and feel they need to pepper every message board, post-SP Journey thread, post-SP album review with such bullshit as "JOURNEY IS NOTHING WITHOUT STEVE PERRY!!!one!!1!eleven". They cannot accept the fact that their personal Jesus was shown the fucking door. They cannot accept the fact that Journey DARED to move on without Mr. "I never felt like part of the band."

ohsherrie wrote:However, it's already been pretty much agreed here that when you're talking Steve Perry it's not quite the same as most frontmen. Journey was identified by his voice more so than is the norm for bands like that. His voice became their trademark. Once Escape came out some djs were actually saying calling them Steve Perry and Journey. I know you don't think that's right or fair, but it's the way it is.

Froy, is there a link for this article?

Nor will he do it accompanied by the guitar or Neal Schon and keyboard of Jonathan Cain.

That's kind of what I was asking. How will he sing this song should any of this come to pass? Who would back him? A Capella? Not a song for that, at least not in my opinion.
ohsherrie wrote:Well NoMoreTails, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this. Neither of us is going to change the other's opinion so there's no point in arguing it to death.

Argue? Here? Never. All those previous threads that went on for pages...those weren't arguments...they were creative, colorful dialogues right? (Insert humor here)
NoMoreTails wrote:How can you possibly say a song belongs to the singer in a band instead of the band itself? If the album is re-released and it says

I'll agree with you.
I thought of all the Perryheads I've ever heard from, there'd be a possiblity of reasoning with you.
suGreggie wrote:Getting away from the Anti-Pro squabble, I'm sure this means that Steve Perry would have to pay a percentage of royalities to Neal and Jon if he does perform Don't Stop Believin? From what I had read from Herbie Herbert, Perry gets royalities everytime the band performs songs in concert. Which I'm not re how much I believe from that interview, but that's a different topic.

I think Perry may lyp sync this song as well
jrnyman28 wrote:Actually, I believe ANYONE can sing a song live at ANY time without paying royalties. Royalties only occur when the product is sold retail.
Personally, I see Perry performing it KARAOKE. There are plenty of good karaoke systems and versions of the song that have all the backing and just no voice.

ohsherrie wrote:I didn't say the song belonged to him NMT. All I said was that he has as much right to sing it as the band does. Someone (Amaron I think) asked why some people didn't like the band singing it but thought it was OK for Steve to do so. My answer was that it was because Steve was the original artist who sang it. That's all I said about it, it was someone else who brought up the issue of ownership. I don't think it matters who technically owns it or wrote it. I just think he has the right to sing it because his is the voice that made it a hit. I also didn't say the band didn't have the right to perform the song.

Hey genius, ask the Yankees if they know what 3-0 means.

Hi Froy, please clarify for me, who gets no money? The band gets none if he sings, or he gets none when the band sings it, or both?
Sure
Nobody gets money because nobody made money
The song is not being used for profit.
So no payments made.Surely you don't mean he would lipsync to the song as it's recorded now. I mean, surely he would rerecord it as he currently sings. That wouldn't be so unusual in a parade environment, most people do.
