GR. HTS. I DVD: Better Than I Gave Credit For

I dusted this baby off and trotted it out the other night, along with my copy of the Houston show vhs (a great pal hooked me up with it) as a primer for next week. That show is dynamite.

The dvd became much better than I originally thought. I have a new much larger and much more audio capable tv now and I was blown away. These guys were and still are MAGIC. The ROR live footage rocks, bad perms and all. Favorite of all the videos has become the live cut of Stone In Love off the Houston show. The energy present there is absolutely palpable. Perry sprints up to the keys and plays and sings bg vox over the Schon outro solo at the end, then runs back down for the finish...Cain on the Gibson playing rythym.....I like it when Perry does the hand-to-the forehead, looking out at the crowd thing...

I'm curious to see what the remastering process does to enhance this footage next week...

You got me wanting to watch the Houston show again. You must have a really cool friend to hook you up with that.

Yeah, Perry is amazing in that show. The whole band is. Neal makes some great faces, and he just shreds. M/F gives me chills. Can't wait for the DVD. An early Christmas present to myself!

Schon is so intense in that footage, he's like hyper. Crazy, crazy good stuff. The vintage MTV logo shirt, the definative Neal hair, it's got it all.

I've been resisting the urge to watch those until I get the new DVD. I want it to be more fresh for me. My tv sound is crap, but now that you mention how great it is on a good system I might have to take it to my daughter's house and watch it for the first time. I can hardly wait, but I won't get it until the first week in Dec because she's getting it for me for my b-day.

I remember the part with Steve playing the keys and singing, it's one of my favorite parts. To do all that running around on the stage and still have the vocal power he had, he must have been in great shape.

Talking about it may just break down my resolve. The GH DVD is a good teaser for the concert.

I also like the part where Steve walks over to Neal and jokes with him just before Stone in Love.(at least, if I'm remembering right it's before that song)

My son-in-law has a 52" wide screen and surround sound. I think they're going to have a visitor the day of my B-day.

I haven't watched it in a while, but I though he holds his hand down on a few chords on the synth. I could be wrong. Deano is probably right!

I'll be able to be more definite about it after I watch the DVD on the big screen, but I'm pretty sure he's at least holding down, and possibly changing the chord at least once, when he's up there with Jon. I can't really say for sure about the time when Jon's playing guitar, but what you say makes sense Joe. The man isn't completely instrumentally inept. It doesn't take Mozart to play a simple set of chords or notes.

Look, you have to admit, I am honest. I am not bashing Steve here. I just think he had to have "somewhere to go" during the solo...It probably gets a llittle awkward not having much to do during a long solo....

Red13, That is solely my opinion, however, one slow day at the WhiteHouse, when there was no scandal to have to defend, a bunch of sat around on a rainy day and watched this tape..We broke it down like parcells breaking down a Philly 4-3 defense. It was our decision that Perry just needed to do "something." Nothing against him for that...I thought it was a good idea by the boy.

Also, of all people to come into the room while we were watching it was none other than WH Chief of Staff, Mack Mclarty! He was "not much into rock these days" but did like "your group." He particularly liked the "singer guy" but his hair "was too damned long." True story.

Red13- agreed about Michigan Stadium. 100,000 people and not even close to loud. Washington State only seats 38,500 and it is much louder. Oregon is the loudest in the land and they only seat 45,000. Loyd Carr even admitted that after he got his ass kicked there. Gotta admit, seeing PSU full and loud against tOSU was awesome. Hint- if the officials want to be swayed by Loyds Bullshit request to add on phantom seconds..Beat their ass well enough where it won't matter. If you remember in the Rose Bowl, WSU was on the Michigan 21 yd line with 2 seconds left, and Leaf spiked the ball. of course though, Loyd ran out on the field and poof! Game over. Leaf was a great CFB QB, and my guess is it was 50/50 they could have thrown a deep out for 6 and a win.

Oh for goodness sake Sugar. We were just dicussing the way we saw and/or heard things on that video. What's so "defensive" about suggesting that he might have enough musical sense to learn and perform a simple progression of chords or notes? I wasn't being "vague" I was just being honest. I don't remember all the details from the video and I'm not going to watch it because I'm waiting for the DVD. I just think, as best as I can recall from memory, that Joe is right. It doesn't have to be an issue.

There is a new singer, and frankly, the guy has HUGE balls for even attempting to fill a monsters' shoes. Not only did he fill them, he is pretty good too. But I wouldn't stop there. Augeri wasn't so hot when he took over in 97. He has improved immensely, and I think that speaks volumes of his character. Oh, by the way, he is all class as well.

Maybe I am just smarter than you because I can see the name, "Steve Augeri" on the cover under lead vocals. Time moves on. Change is imminent. I don't understand frankly why certain people are arguing over a singer who left on his own, and has been gone for 20 years!

Now, if you really want some sympathy for a singer, go ask Dennis DeYoung. That band committed suicide by letting go(kicking out) and pretty damned good singer, an excellent singer who can still bring it. Dear Twig fan, if DDY were in the band today, Journey wouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as you. But he's not, and Styx sucks, and you shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Journey.


What do I want to see Steven Perry do? I would love it if he would manage Journey. Hell, he has a stake in the machine doesn't he? Actually, I would love to see Osama Bin Laden manage Journey. Prolly get more out of them than Dr Bones. Maybe can open up that Afghanistan market that has been waiting to explode to some melodic rock!

Sherrie, I was joking about rural Virginia. One of the most beautiful states in the nation. The Old Dominion is full of history, and has some really gorgeous areas.

Outside of Washington state, Colorado, California, and maybe North Carolina, IMO, Virginia is a top ten state. Now if you jokers could just learn how to vote! 3.5%, and we have a new leader today, but that's water under the bridge.

My husband and kids used to hate the drive from Indianapolis to Omaha. The only highlight was the Mississippi, but it all looked like home to me so I didn't mind a bit.
