I'd have him work with John Waite :D

Also, MN is an awesome state to live in, in spite of the cold. I've traveled all over the country and would move back there in a heart beat if it wasnt for my kids being in IL now.

TNC, I found it. I may be reading too much between the lines, but he sounds a little like he's still searching for something to make him feel fulfilled as a musician. It's like he's not really satisfied with anything that he's doing, but he's still standing by it. I truly hope he finds what will make him happy before he gives up and goes ice fishing.(not that I think that will happen)

Shadowsong, have you heard the unedited TBF interview satelite feed? Steve's one of the guys on that. It's hilarious.

I don't know, Sherrie. I think SoulSirkus did fulfill him as an "artist". He found a partner that he had writing chemistry with and that he genuinely enjoyed sharing a tour bus/stage with. I think he sounds like a guy frustrated of always being the perrenial second banna. Neal wants to go big time and doesn't quite know how to get there. He had high hopes for SS and now they've gone up in smoke. My .02 cents.

I don't know that much about SS, but I completely agree with you on the second banana thing. I don't know what he could possibly do about that at this point. I understand why it's frustrating for him. There are just so few guitar players that reach that iconic status. He's good enough, but he just hasn't found the vehicle to get him there. He's been Grammy nominated for God's sake, what else can he do? I don't know what got the recognized greats to that point. I have to believe that in a lot of cases it was just luck.

Do you think the stigma attached to Journey because of the corporate rock crap could have anything to do with it? I mean, Steve Perry doesn't even get the recognition he deserves because of that unfair tag. Maybe all of those guys will have to wear the Scarlet "C" because of it.

Not sure. Steve Perry is a legend, and while Neal may never achieve the same status of mainstream notoriety as Perry, one would think that just being associated with the legacy of Journey would be more then enough.
If I were him, I'd drop the dreams of grandeur, be happy with what I've got and focus my creative efforts on furthering Journey's aforesaid rich musical legacy.

No don;t recall any satellite feed. I'd be interested in listening to it.
Maybe I did
I heard one interview and all the guys were there
Lots of joking
I think it was around Xmas

They asked Steve if he wore underwear
and there was some reply very skimpy underwear
He also said he got a Chevy supped up car with blowers n things

Yeah now that I think about it
that must be the one

If someone has a link I'd appreciate it

Thanks

There was a translation of an interview with Neal on BT a few weeks ago from Sound Designer Magazine(Japanese). Neal said he was going to do something with Santana, might be a good way to get some recognition.

Translation sucks, but quite interesting.

I agree that Steve's voice is legendary, and has gotten him more personal recognition in the music world than the band as a whole, but I still think all of the critical pans of Journey and their music kept him from achieving the iconic status that he deserves. I think that same principle applies to Neal. His name should be at least as well known as Joe Perry's.

I agree that Neal should find a way to let go of any feelings of unfulfillment and just have a great time(and earn a little money ) doing what he loves doing and does so very well.

Shadowsong, it sounds like you've heard that interview. Acctually it was a series of radio interviews that they did with several stations around the country through a satelite feed from LA. It's hilarious . They were having a great time between the linkups with the various stations. I don't know of a link to it though.
