A little Soundgardenish, a bit Godsmackish, a teensy bit Alice In Chainsish. They're from Seattle (home of grunge?), but they're more melodic (IMHO).

Awesome...now go and buy 'Still Life' and prepare to be blown away.

I'm going to see Opeth next year...in April.

My AOW is

Riverside-Second Life Syndrome.....A brilliant mix of Tool, Porcupine Tree and their own sound...late contender for best of 2005.

Jesus...put that theory into practice right away JB.

I've listened to some different music this week. I went to visit my son and as usual he tormented me with his tastes. One that was interesting though was Sefjun Stevens - Come on, Feel the Illinoise!! Different, but not bad.

My AOTW goes to a mix disc I made for a co-worker. He's got a band going, they're looking for a keyboardist, and they're huge into power metal bands. If I like what I hear, I may audition for them. Still waiting on their demo.

In a month the album will be three years old. And no, they are not together. Dan is doing production work these days and the odd session work for country albums.

It's been awhile since I've heard that name. Giant released "III" a few years ago. It was a collection of unreleased tracks which were almost as good as their first two albums. Nothing since.

I got a serious AOTW now, aside from an unnamed mix disc.

My serious AOTW also goes to my AOTY (Album of the Year.)

One album to get my AOTY...One album to set a 2005 standard nobody could come close to toppling...One album to rule them all...Masterplan "Aeronautics," My #1 Album of 2005.

Nothing came close. Not even my Female AOTY (Broke N Blue "The Waiting.") This decision was made after listening to Allen/Lande "The Battle" today. Not even Jorn could top the standard he set at the beginning of 2005. When comparing 2005 albums, 2nd place seems more like 8th place when compared to Masterplan.

I have two albums that I can't decide between for AOTY... One is Masterplan - Aeronautics, the other one is Opeth - Ghost Reveries. Masterplan makes me feel happy, it has Jorn on vocals and there are no bad songs on it. Opeth is great in another sense, no bad songs on there either, and everytime I listen to it I discover something new, but the overall mood is much darker.

The Battle was a bit of a disappointment for me... after discovering neither of the singers had contributed to the songwriting it spoiled it a bit. They don't need to contribute, but when the album carries their names I still would think they did... so it left a feeling of deception and exploitation. The songs are alright, but no way in the same league as Masterplan.

My AOTW is Kamelot - Karma; just a couple more weeks until I can inspect whether Khan has shaved better this time... :)
