SS sounded like hard rock because that's what they (Soto/Schon) were aiming for.
Likewise, if they set out to do a Journey record, I'm sure it will sound like a Journey record.
I think he's just referring to the makeup of the band, personnel-wise, not sound-wise. Anyway, I don't think most Journey fans are going to notice much of a difference really, regardless of if this lineup stays intact or if anyone else leaves.

I think the SS record is a stronger record overall than Generations.
Generations has a few high points, but a few clunkers, as well.
Every track on SS, on the other hand, is solid.
Can't disagree there. I love "World Play", though I think the first half of that album is much more solid than the latter half...Kinda the oppposite of "Generations" now that I think of it.
