Apology To Jeff Scott Soto

Postby Blueskies » Wed Aug 02, 2006 5:29 pm

Public apology to Mr. Jeff Scott Soto! I started in here with a thread that said " This tour Suck's" not only relating to you, but also past transgression's, which you are not a part of, I would like to appologize to you sir, I now feel you are worthy to take the throne as Journey's lead vocalist. You were rough starting out in the concert's I saw you in. Nerve's or whatever, I understand. Who can stand up to the comparison's to Steve Perry, A master volcalist, who will go down in history as one of the best, if not the best rock vocalist of our time? You, being a fan yourself of Mr. Perry, will understand. BUT, sense then, I have heard boot's and remark's from people I respect, on how well you're doing and how the band has jelled with you. I give you my full admiration from this point on, sir. Only my best to you, hope something new and exciting will follow! You will become your own man, among the fan's, I am sure, because I was a hard nut to crack, Steve Augeri could not crack me, but you have, may Journey proceed with something new and exciting in 2007!

Nicely done Voicelover, As I've said before I'm glad JSS stepped up and helped the guys out in Steve A.'s absence. From what I've heard on the boards he's a class guy and great to be around (and not dropping "F bombs" on 10 year olds) I don't think I'm never gonna get over that story!

Having done my research since I saw him, new respect is due. That and the new energy I see in Jon and Ross have got me energized on a possible new future for Journey. I must say, this is very difficult for me, being a long time Perry Onlie fan! I respect Stephen's wish'es to live a private life, and I respect Journey's wishes to hopefully forge forward. Maybe we will get the best of both world's --- Journey continues and Steve Perry come's back with a solo release? That would be perfect for me! But that's just MO! :)

Well, JSS is definitely the better man in the treatment of fans department.

Pretty cool, voicelover!

Well, if this paring and tour doesn't work, it's certainly not JSS's fault. The guy can sing his balls off...whether one feels it fits with Journey or he sounds right singing those songs is a matter of opinion (and an opnion on which I can understand some of both sides), but it's certainly not from a lack of effort, energy, or talent. My only wish is that he would've got the Queen gig first. :wink:

He told me in a PM that he usually stays up late while they are on the bus because it's hard to fall asleep once they get to a hotel if he's slept already.

Yeah, next to Journey, Kansas is my favorite band. Streets was a band that could've been much bigger, in my opinion. Steve Walsh still had a great voice at that point and his songwriting in that band was much better than most of what he had done in Kansas. There are a number of great Streets songs: "Don't Look Back", "Fire", "I Can't Wait", "If Love Should Go", and "The Nightmare Begins". Their guitarist, Mike Slamer, is also an excellent guitarist.

Anyway, I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of Streets but they were certainly a pretty good band.

Yes, and he has since responded in kind. I will not post what he has said, because I did not ask him if I could. I have asked Andrew if he can verify that it is JSS. I'm waiting for his response, but he's probably getting tired of the question.

Do you know the scene in Bill and Ted where they share philosophical thoughts with Socrates? "All we are is dust in the wind dude. Dust. Wind. Dude."

Was that in homage to Kansas?

There was a LOT of talent in Streets...Walsh, Mike Slamer (as you mentioned), and don't forget Billy Greer on bass. Their 1st album was really good. Don't know why they didn't keep going. I think you hit it on the head, too, about Walsh's songwriting. It was much better suited to Streets than to Kansas. And of course, Kansas already had the songwriting well covered with one of the best ever, Kerry Livgren. I would have to say, though, that my personal favorite Walsh penned tune is Every Step Of The Way from his Schemer/Dreamer album.

Billy Greer is a good bassist, but he's an excellent singer as well. He's probably the better singer in Kansas now. Have you heard his vocals on the Seventh Key albums? Outstanding. I haven't heard the first Seventh Key album but the second one is very good. Very good AOR band.

Yeah, just think "It Takes a Woman's Love (To Make a Man)" from the "Masque" album...{shudder}

And of course, Kansas already had the songwriting well covered with one of the best ever, Kerry Livgren.

Livgren is one my favorite songwriters, right up there with Neil Peart of Rush and Cain/Perry.
