This could be fun!! I await your ideas. Especially can't wait to hear Deano's!!!!!!!!!!

JSS, hands down...Do you try to entice Perry into a reunion tour?
Nope, he seems to be happy out of the limelight...Do you give Chalfant a call?
Sure, just to say "hi". Kev seems like a nice guy...Do you hire someone to kick the shit out of Deano for exposing the truth?
Nope, just pat him on the back and say "thanks, man"...Do you seek a label?
Would be nice, to get the band back in the game...

Excellent response and great ideas....thank you.

Yup. It's true.

This is something I've thought about, and if (in some alternate universe) it ever happened, I would sell a kidney to see it. Afterward I'd need new underwear. And a cigarette.

If it's me, I sit down with Augeri and honestly tell him what I'm thinking about, which is an album and tour with Perry and Augeri both on board. Augeri plays guitar when he ain't singing, Perry sings backup/co-lead when Augeri's singing lead. My idea is a 10 track album, 4 Perry sung, 2 Deen, 3 Augeri, 1 with all three trading off.
If Augeri's on board and can go, I call Perry. If Augeri refuses, I say okay, let me get back to you in a week and I call Perry.
This is of course if the guys (meaning Schon Cain and Valory...and I mean ALL THREE) are cool with ANY of this. Let's presume they all are.
I call Perry. Float the idea of him coming back into the fold for an album and tour. For me, this is the Steve Perry last chance tour, if he bails, it's over with him. If he's up for the split vocal duties, I go back to Augeri and try to get him on board for it. I think he'd do it. If he doesn't, then I call Perry and offer him the full gig, album and tour, come back, all is forgiven mutually, and we go from there.
I think sound-wise, on stage, this band would sound absolutely amazing with three vocalists pitching in. Layers of sound...I love it. And it'd make Perry sound worlds better because let's face it, he's gonna need help. No tuning down, that's rule #1. Play this shit as it's meant to be played.
Now, if Augeri refuses the split duty, and Perry turns down the full gig, I go back to Augeri and offer him the full gig. Let's presume he's not nuts and takes it. That's that if that's the case. Album and tour like normal. Much heavier promotion than in recent years though.
But in an ideal world everyone plays ball. Go into the studio, record the album, and I want a perfectionist producer in there. Get Mutt Lange on the phone...I want perfection regardless of how long it takes.
Release the album Spring Break week of 2008. Just in time for a summertime hit. First single is the track with the tradeoff vocals. Let everyone know up front what Journey is NOW. No bullshit, no illusions, no smoke and mirrors. These guys fucking rock, here it is.
For the tour. Go easy...don't kill these guys. 20 city US stadium and large arena tour. Start in San Francisco, late July. SBC Park. I guarantee a sellout.
Setlist? Here goes...
New track (tradeoff vocals - the single)
Be Good to Yourself (SA vocals)
I'll Be Alright Without You (SP vocals)
Separate Ways (SP)
Still They Ride (SP/D)
New Track (SA)
New Track (SP)
Who's Cryin' Now (SP)
Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin' (SP)
Lights (SP)
Stay Awhile (SP)
Faith in the Heartland (SA)
Oh Sherrie (SP)
When You Love A Woman (SP)
Open Arms (SP)
Wheel in the Sky (SA/SP)
Encores
Any Way You Want It (SA/SP)
Faithfully (SP/SA/DC)
Don't Stop Believin' (SP/SA/DC)
The onstage interplay between these guys is gonna have to be tight, and look natural. If that doesn't work, this isn't gonna work at all. Perry's a master showman, and Augeri's a trooper and a good guy, I think it'd be great.
The important thing here, to me, is getting that cash flow going so the tour keeps chugging along. Noone complains when they're making money. There's plenty of backup, vocally. If Perry can't handle the load, Augeri's more than ready, if he can't Deen, and vice versa up the line.
If the 20 city tour works, which is all I sign Perry for to start with, is that...then we negotiate to extend it from there. The key is to get Perry on board that this is gonna make him a LOT of money, for a little work. 20 dates is nothing. Spread the dates out too...weeks in between legs. Here, lemme do that too!
7/19 San Francisco
7/23 Los Angeles
7/29 San Diego
8/4 Denver
8/11 Houston
8/15 Dallas
8/19 New Orleans
8/23 Atlanta
8/26 Miami
8/30 DC
9/3 New York City
9/5 New York City
9/7 Philadelphia
9/11 Toronto
9/15 Chicago
9/17 Chicago
9/22 Detroit
9/26 Minneapolis
10/1 Seattle
10/5 Portland
If Perry declines to go any further after that, fine, say thanks, nice working with you again, close it positively with an open door for the next album/tour, and move forward with Augeri for a small international tour of arenas. Another 20 worldwide dates, a few in the US, then call it finished for promoting that album.
Now, early in the tour, on the heels of the successful first single, I'm releasing one of the new SP sung tracks as the next single. Mid tour, around late August, a live version of FITH is the single there, with the Deen track off the album as its B-side.
From here, the sky's the limit. You've got a sold out tour, what I think would be a platinum album at least, and at least two hit singles. Journey's back on the map.
Of course all of this needs two things. Support from a major label, and Steve Perry on board.
Incidentally...I didnt really have any plans here for JSS...because we dont even know if he's official. I'm going from the facts I've been told as far as who the official band lineup is. If JSS is official, then...I dunno. I don't think I keep him on for a Perry tour. Maybe. I haven't thought about that really.
jrnyman28 wrote:You put a lot of thought into that Big J and I commend you.
But why would FITH live be a single? There is absolutley no point to that that I can see.
OK, so August 4, 2008 Denver, Co....I'll reserve my tix now please!!

Same here Big J...but Instead of FITH being taken out...I'd take Oh Sherrie and put in another ACTUALL Journey tune. I don't see why Perry should have a solo tune on here if you can fit another true Journey song in there. EDGE OF THE BLADE FOR THIS TOUR TOO. (I know I know...I said I'd shut up about this song.LOL) My .02
I'll be there 8/11 Houston and 8/15 Dallas.
