Journey doesn't need any of our opinions. But if you start dissing mine, and I start dissing yours, it just degrades the forum.

Hugo is a better candidate as a Steve Perry replacement that Augeri or JSS are in my opinion. Hugo's live videos sound 10 times better than the JSS bootlegs. Plus, he looks almost identical to Steve Perry. If Journey wants someone to sing the Steve Perry songs, then they should try to find someone who looks and sounds like Perry - Hugo being the most ideal candidate. Otherwise they should come up with new music and skip the Perry stuff entirely.

As far as Journey needing Hugo "like another hole in the ass", the same could be said about Augeri and JSS. It's all a matter of opinion, and forums like this are full of nothing but opinions.

No Hugo.... too weird. I'm on board with Jeff as frontman. I'll be catching some shows in a few weeks, I expect I'll enjoy the performances very much.

Hugo is a great singer, no doubt about it. However, he would turn them into a karaoke/lounge act (if they haven't already become one...). The band doesn't want a doppelganger and neither do most of the fans.

No, Neal Schon said it would be too "weird" having Hugo sing for the band. Most people in here agree.

Wasn't aware I was his forum buddy. Seems to know a lot more than you, though.

They don't need a Steve Perry replacement.

I mean, imagine saying...."We can't get Perry but we have a look-alike that sounds like him, but is like half as good."

JSS represents a new beginning....

Okay, so I've been outvoted. I can agree to disagree.

Here's my take on this issue:

Augeri replaces Perry = Soundalike with no new hits but Journey able to tour & drive the crowd into a frenzy when Open Arms kicks in.

JSS replaces Augeri = Good frontman, but doesn't look or sound like Steve Perry.

Hugo replaces JSS = Looks and sounds like Steve Perry, which gives the Journey fans exactly what they are looking for in a Steve Perry replacement.

All it takes is a little logic. If you're gonna replace Elvis with an impersonator to front Elvis' old band, common sense would tell you to get someone who looks and sounds like him.

The day they do that is the day they finally lose ALL respect anyone has for them (which ain't much at this point).

No one will ever be able to do Perry's vocals as Perry did them. Perry himself probably can't duplicate his phenominal voice of the 70s and 80s. No need to sound like a cd from the 80s at a live show. Live is just that- LIVE, mistakes and all.... remember these are human beings not gods (sorry NIG) ;). Hugo does not have his own personality to front. Jeff is his own- he's got his style, presence, and sound that works. No need to be a Perry clone. I don't consider Augeri a clone- I never saw Perry in his stage performance. Whatever.... just passing time before a meeting

Yeah NIG, maybe you should have live bands in your bar - then you would understand.

The boot i heard was from Andrews mr x (georgia july 17th)and vocally it was very clear, hardly any crowd interference, Everything i heard before that was horribly riddled with crowd interference and i couldnt get a clear picture of how it sounded i would love to hear another "GOOD" boot anybody please let me hear something better but honestly Neal is going to play the dirty dozen the rest of his playing days its what the majority want to hear and my disappointment was not with little flaws or missed words it was the overall sound of his voice it changes everything for me and doesnt sound right at all i cant say what i want to because i know JSS can sing. the best way to say this is his voice is too deep and low for the sound of journey i hear a few points where he brings it high but it just doesnt fit i dont have a problem with change i had no trouble when Augeri came in but he fit pretty well into the mix. its a sad state of affairs for me if this is the permanent direction of the band .

Yeah, those are unbiased reviews to be sure  Don't you know you cannot, I repeat cannot post the truth over there.

Jeff is the new singer, but I think he is Earth, and Journey is water, and together they make mud. Fucking awful.

My kids want to go to the Irvine show. I don't. However, just thinking of seeing the herd of Holmsteins and Frank throwing Pizzas and mowing Burgers is worth the ticket price. I am going to take about 500 pics of that guy. He is amazing.

From what I saw, Ross & Jon were playing the dirty dozen too....hell, even Deen joined in!! Why the hell do you blame Neal for making this choice? Are there no other 'voices' in this band? Management....'general fan's picks....seems Neal gets the brunt of shit for everything Journey, especially when you all don't like something going on in the band. Have you not read other threads about this subject? A package tour like this is forcing BOTH bands to stick to familiarity, why would you want a SINGLE person to head to the beer tents at any part of the show? I wouldn't, I'd give em what they want till the cows came home, especially risking they wouldn't come back next year cuz all I did was play diehard's album cuts.

Seems these threads easily stray from the original ideas & theories/opinions take over like they're factual or directly from the band. We have no idea what's going on in their camp, should we even care past the point of we love the music, the music is being brought to us with the 'postman mentality...through rain, sleet or snow'? I for one am happy to see Styx still going even though JY is the only ORIGINAL member (outside of the 2-3 song appearances by Chuck Panozzo), still happy to rock out to Foreigner even though Lou Gramm was the MAN, & will continue to support Journey bringing it every year until they drop...regardless of who is fronting. You want Perry & Augeri? Thank God for CD's & DVD's, stay home & watch to your hearts content. I mean this with respect not as a bag to anyone.

Strange Deano, I thought you were into a JSS Journey...guess I was wrong! Who would you think is right for them, obviously we're just talking singers known, there might just be someone undiscovered out there just as qualified.
