Ur missing 1 very very very important point! The Stones, Bon Jovi and U2 never went away. Journey did for years from 86 to 96. They came back with an album in 96 not a tour. 1 song did well in the charts and got a grammy nomination. But 96 was a decade ago. In the last century. & "popular" music is different now very different.
& a few other things:
1. Perry didn't draw 40k with his FTLOSM tour. I was there. Why do you reckon that was?
2. Been to a Journey show lately? Ask around the crowd. Lots of people still think it's Steve Perry up there. They don't know the difference whether it's lipsynch boy or JSS. How can sales be affected?
3. Name me 1 "nostalgia band" that disappeared for a while, then came back and toured and has awesome ticket sales at shows? Maybe the Eagles but they were waaaay bigger than Journey. & Henley was always doing something that sold.[/quot
You make some good points. However, the Eagles were NEVER "waaaay bigger than Journey." Journey was huge when MTV came out, were all over the radio and had a video game. While having a vidoe game might seem stupid it shows that EVERYONE knows who you are. Perry played intimate venues on his solo tour. He said he wanted it that way. I concede he would not have been able to draw anywhere near 40,000. Journey WITH Perry would. I've been to about 25 shows in the last 8 years and I never heard anyone say they thought Perry was still in the band. To me, that argument is old and ridiculous. In fact, the last year or two I've heard grumblings in the crowd how they wanted Perry back. Everyone knows Perry hasn't been with Journey in quite some time.
