How much do we really know about this JSS guy?

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Tue Sep 26, 2006 3:36 am

We already know Augeri spent his early days as a clerk in a NY record store. The-then insanely popular "Escape" album played continuously in the background, awashing Augeri’s entire person, imbuing every fiber of his being with the Journey signature sound -whether he wanted it or not.

But, how much do we really know about this new guy?
Is there possibly an alien in our midst?

Despite Andrew’s repeated assurances that Jeff Soto was weaned on the right tit of Steve Perry and general Motown influences, I won’t be satisfied until I hear straight from the source.
For this very reason I am thrusting down the gauntlet and ballsily posting an open MR.com challenge to Journey’s newest first-in-command:

Jeff, name your favorite Journey song and album.

When you find a spare moment from meticulously trimming your womb broom..er..umm “goatee” and/or carving holes in your ridiculously overpriced designer jeans I’d greatly appreciate u answering this.

On behalf of concerned Journey fans across the globe,
The Noble Cause

If you go to his myspace and read his "long ass bio" blog, you will get a lot of information.

And stop dissing the jeans.

Ahh, but I doubt it states his fav. Journey song and album -the one and only true litmus test for being the frontman of Journey (for me, anyways).
Being a great singer is pivotal, but would u truly want a guy fronting the band who considers sonic miscarriages like "Butterfly" to be the epitomy of Journey?
Fuck no!
This is important, damnit!

And stop dissing the jeans.

Since when is the word "overpriced" a diss?
A diss would've been if I implied he wears some Kathie Lee Gifford sweatshop brand.
Give urself another salt water enema and do lighten the fuck up.

Then there is where I finally get off the train.
Aside from a nice Neal solo, that song and Journey have nothing in common whatsoever!

JSS has more taste than that anyways.

There is no ONE I can name, but I can give a few as each emote different things from Perry's croon to Neal's melodies.

In no particular order

Sweet & Simple
Too Late
Ask The Lonely
The Party's Over (Hopelessly In Love)
Patiently
Good Morning Girl
Escape
Line Of Fire
Mother, Father
Why Can't This Night Go On Forever

Now, there are rockers & ballads alike but notice none of the dirty dozen chosen? They are obvious choices as anyone knows, they are part of that dozen for a reason, I don't need to choose them as favorites cuz they speak for themselves, & the millions who love them. I admit, I am a 'Perry' era fan from the word go, although they have written some amazing things before & after. But nothing beats Perry when he shows his R&B/croon/younger side, that's the side that influenced me as a young singer, just so happens as we got older, we both got raspier.

These are all GREAT tunes.
I am relieved.
Journey, I feel, is in safe hands.

Thanks for being a good sport and answering this deliberately condescening thread.
If it were directed towards Cain, I think he probably would've read it, had an aneuryism and died.
Thanks again.

Great list!! Ah, Sweet and Simple. Amazing vocal, for sure. But did you hear that guy on those soundcheck boots? Pretty damn great!

Good to see "Patiently" in that list. I got chills down my spine at last year's 30th anniversary show when Deen sang that. Incredible.

I would dearly love to hear you guys do "Why Can't This Night Go on Forever". Very underrated ballad, in my opinion.

See that...I keep saying this Jeff guy is alright! I've been saying forever that "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever" is as good of a ballad as Journey has ever written! And to think...it's off of ROR, which most Journey fans hate for some unknown reason.

Because most of the other tracks off of it are overproduced, drum-machine ladden crap, and not anywhere near as good as "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever".

I thought "My Sanctuary", his ode to peeping tomism and chronic masturbators everywhere already classified for that.

"i watch u from my window until my flag unfurls.....jerking wit pleasure....every night i'm craving u"

Never before had I felt so honored to have been arrested for public indecency.

Throw in a Neal guitar solo and I think we have the lead single off the next Journey album.

Hey Jeff.... nothin' wrong with that rasp.....it's called soul. That's what was missing from Journey's vocals since Perry's left, soul. Cain just said he now thinks it is just about energy & that's what people were missing. Wrong. Perry delivered those songs like he meant it and every time was his last. Of course it helped that he penned or co-penned them, so he felt the original intent of the song, but you are doing them serious justice now, so THANKS. As long as Journey is going to stay on the road, they should be carrying on the tradition Perry's vocals began for them and brought all the fans to the table. You are the right guy to do that, plus you respect the originator. Good on ya, dude.
