Sure. In my opinion, my criticism of Grandpa was right, however, I realized, he had nothing to work with. You ever try to super glue Noah's fucking Ark together? Well, having Augeri as your frontman/ singer put him in the same predicament.

Now he has a smart, sharp, well versed frontman who can flatout bring it. There are no excuses now.

My apologies to Irv. Sorry Irv. Now call me for lunch.

See, I don't know why so many people take everything Dean says at face value when he occasionally does a flip like this. A couple of months ago HE KNEW Jeff was not "right" for Journey, then turned around and changed his song. I do believe things like Tapegate, but with a pretty big grain of salt...

I agree. There was no way Journey could have been successful with Augeri as the frontman - and everything that's happened since 1998 has borne this out.

So I guess the question is...why didn't Azoff try to get Augeri fired after Arrival flopped? And if he did who stood in his way?

Based purely on a outsider's perspective.... it seems that Azoff allowed certain band members too much authority over Journey's affairs, that he has passively tolerated the decline. Is this fair or accurate?

No, Azoff didn't have the star frontman he needed to make Journey a big success in the last eight years - but equally why did he tolerate the situation for so long?

Surely he could have given Schon and Cain an ultimatum? Get a new singer...or find a new manager.

Maybe it was all more complicated than that...but I'm just curious about where the leadership of this band is really coming from.

Big fucking deal. Grammys mean nothing to fans.

Eh, just proving that TBF wasn't complete crap.

Yea, Jethro Tull beat out Metallica years ago for "Best Heavy Metal/Hard Rock" category, remember that?

The fact that an album like TBF spawned a Grammy nomination and Escape and Frontiers didn't VALIDATES that TBF was complete crap!

The last time they wrote material with Perry, we got served up TBF...

How could you possibly want more?

How could you possibly not want more? It's still the best record they've recorded in the last decade by some distance...

i disagree Matty...
VOCALLY, TBF is the best in the past decade, hands down; The Voice still can't be touched :)

But the Songwriting, structures and melodies on Arrival, I think, are actually the best...
Imagine ARRIVAL coming out in 96 instead of TBF WITH the TBF line-up... It would have been HUGE!

They weren't allowed to.

I remember hearing something to the effect that SS couldn't even mention Journey in their promos, as in "featuring Neal Schon, founding member and guitarist of Journey." Also heard that promotion was not there in force because of the impending Generations album that was due to come out; didn't want anything to take the limelight off of that.

Yep...he said it to me, "Wait until after this tour."

Well, I'm waiting, and then I'll say how wrong he was.

THIS makes me nervous, after all the talk of a new rockin' Journey.

Yep, and that is no knock on SS. That project was in its infancy and Journey's a 30 year legacy juggernaut. Plus the music landscape was far friendlier to new bands then than when SS came about.
