Open letter to the band I posted over at the official board.

Postby robisc » Sat Sep 30, 2006 2:28 am

I posted this over at the JRNY official board, anyone with me on this?

Ok, Jon, Neal, Ross, Deen or Steve what’s up guys? It’s way past time that us fans that buy all your albums and tickets hear what’s happening in the JRNY camp, you owe us that much, I mean how long is this going to go on? With all the speculating, rumors and such I would think an update about the status of Steve should be easy and is in fact way overdue by now, how long has it been, since July right?

In mine and many other’s opinion it seems that you, our favorite band are holding out on us, the ones that are in fact bringing you all the $$. You are now on the third leg of the US tour with UK dates already added for 07 and still we don’t know if Steve is either: out for good, how he’s doing or if Jeff or someone else is in. I mean are you just not wanting to mess with the “integrity” of Journey and announce the new singer until after the tour and when you start recording a new album or what?. Now let me make sure I clarify the fact that I am a fan of Perry, Augeri and Soto, I have all Jeff’s solo stuff as well and in fact am looking forward to his new upcoming Talisman album, but it just really frustrates me and the many other Journey fans that I’ve talked with about how quiet everyone is, even Augeri, nothing from him like, “hey I’ll be back I’m doing much better thanks for the well wishes” or perhaps “those guys in Journey did me wrong, I am out of the band” just a nada, nothing from anyone, except for just the official announcement “Steve Augeri’s condition will be closely monitored by his physician to determine when he may be able to rejoin the tour.” Again that was in July and this is almost October, so c’mon guys give us some updates, that’s all we are asking. Oh and to reiterate that I do support you guys I saw you with Soto in Nashville and have my tickets to you in Birmingham in November, and I am looking forward to it, but how hard is it to make a statement about what’s going on, either good or bad?? Anybody on these forums with me on this? If so then reply to this post and let’s see how many replies we can get.

Waiting PATIENTLY. Just wanted to say to u NIG, God put SP and Neal together. There will never be a combo like that again. I'm sitting here listening to all the albums and each time I hear something different in the music that they made together. It is incredible. I do wich SP would come back even for awhile. Just love the "VOICE" :)

You must be new over there! That's always been the case over there. The mods on that site are the most out of control group I've ever seen in my life. I'm convinced they have contests over who can lock the most posts. I've seen the most innocuous postings get locked on that board. Don't be surprised if you get an email from one of the mods telling you how you should feel and that you should NEVER question anything Journey does. It's happened to most of us over there, at one point or another!

Isn't it strange. You have the very same thread started on BT and MR. BT, which is so often criticised here for not allowing open debate, continues to debate the thread with reasoned, logical discussion. Here, the bastion of openness and frank discussion, the thread simply turns into yet another bash BT fest. Hmmmnn.... :?

There is not one single response here so far that has attemped to address the comments in the original post.

Good post. I replied to one there yesterday and I was SHOCKED it did not get locked after my reply, but it is burried on page 4 so maybe that's why

I'm a fan of SA and hope he returns, but Jeff is cool too and if they go that way then so be it and I'll check out the new lineup ASAP. Like you though, I just wish they would tell us something.

(sorry, had to quote from Robisc on BT as my response was a direct response to this)

I think this is a slightly skewed line of reasoning. Its akin to somebody buying a few bars of chocolate and then claiming to own a stake in the company that makes it. Or perhaps a better analogy would be somebody who buys a car (which is a big investment in time and expense) but then uses that to assume he now has the right to dictate what cars the manufacturer makes in the future.
You like the music that Journey has made in the past (or I assume you do or you wouldn't be here reading this now). You don't have any obligation to like the band members or its management. Their only commitment to you is to produce a product that you are willing to buy. That may be blunt but its a fact.

This debate has been done to death several times already in the past few months, and I don't want to stir the pot again. The fact is, there are those that believe they have a right to ask the band to comment on the situation and those that don't. Neither is likely to be persuaded otherwise, no matter how heated the debate gets here.

My own view is that it's a reasonable question to ask of the band, but it isn't a given right to expect an answer. I would love for there to be some form of official update but I don't demand or expect one any time soon.

I originally posted this on the other site in another thread.

I am one of the ones who has repeatedly said that the band does not owe us anything. Also, I do not feel that Steve needs to make any statements when managment has not. And his personal health issues are just that personal. Being monitored by a doctor is a fine statement for me.

HOWEVER, now that management has booked shows in the UK with their lead singer status still unknown, then yes I want a response from them as to who will be singing in March. I think they know damn well and are just delaying the inevitable. If the UK shows are showing the lineup to be Jeff and the boys then how can I think anything different. Jeff being in and Steve being out will affect alot of fans' decisions about buying tickets. May not make or break the bank for Journey, but it will add to the discontent already being felt by many.

My thoughts on BT have been well aired and Marty is a strong defender of the board, maybe what is missing is some band interaction with there own web site? Andrew has interviews with the band on the way here yet nothing at the officail site, i have always found this strange.
In fact after meeting Steve at the Greek show last year he insisted we talk(something i regret not putting together) for the magazine i write for, strange that i would be offered a interview yet again nothing on their own site??
The sad thing here is since tapegate there has been a lot of bad blood between the two sites, and the mods have been seen in a very poor light.Maybe if the band had come clean and addressed the fans, we would not be fighting one another now :(

Well, my decision to buy tickets was entirely due to the JSS being in the line-up. No discontent from me.

Marty, are you all pissy because your wife is a moderator over there and that site sucks?

Maria, get real. Steve Augeri has no major health problems. For you to believe that is sickening. He was canned for not being able to sing.

Fyre...Hey suckass, you bring all that BT gayness over here. I am not about to let this board get all squishy and gay.

As anyone who knows me will testify I don't often get pissy - I leave that to those who don't have any self control. Now who might that be? Anybody care to raise their hands?

It has never been any secret that my wife is a moderator on BT, but that as never influenced any of my posts here or there. I don't always agree with all the decisions and moderating on BT but, having seen some of the crap that happens behind the scenes I have to say that much of that moderating is justified.

In this instance I was merely commenting on the irony of the fact that all the serious debate about this topic was taking place over there, while you can't get over yourself and get past the name calling.

Marty, I was just going to say, that you are an alright guy. I don't know why some here cannot stand me, and the fact I have information. Hell, I am sharing it with you all.

As far as BT, their behind the scenes stuff I know of...it is all personal and has to do with cliques and groups and such. They are pathetic over there.

I am starting to not call names as much, but the need for a good asskicking is still needed and justified sometimes.

Damn Deano...

You really are a kinder and gentler dude! For what it's worth, I definitely wasn't insulting Marty, as I don't know much about him. I was just making the point that I am always surprised when I see someone defend Back Talk. It is a VERY poorly moderated site, and most of the mods on that site are a bit too full of themselves. For the record Marty, I don't know who your wife is, so I'm certainly not singling her out. Honestly, if it wasn't Journey's official site, I would never even visit it. The only reason I ever even sought out MR was because I get sooooo frustrated by the fact that the mods on BT don't allow ANYONE to say ANYTHING! I honestly don't really understand why they even have a message board up and running. You do have to wonder why it is that Journey information always comes out on this board before it's ever released on the band's official website. I also now know after being a member of this site why JSS posts here, often, and stays away from the band's official website as much as possible. This site is FAR less political, and that makes it much more palatable to most people.

I don't doubt there are cliques there. There are here too, but those who are 'in' the clique don't know it or refuse to recognise it.

Like you say it is Journey's official site. If it really was as bad as you imply, surely the band would close it or change it radically. The point is, they don't, so what does that tell you? There are times when it has to toe the party line, much like any other 'official' site and none of us are privvy to what those directives are at times. Here is just a free for all, which suits some people but not others.

As to JSS, I'm sure he regularly browses both forums (and probably several others). He frequently posts on BOTH.

I'm not just defending BT for the sake of it. I would make the same defence for any forum which is being (in my miind) unjustly picked on, or at least out of proporton to its problems - even MR.
