How did I miss this song first time round & think nothing of it? My scratch old turntable maybe is ready for the junkyard. I never paid much attention to it before. But the sexy way Perry's voice goes all deep at the beginning is doing things to me every time I listen. It gives me shivers & more. I can barely take it. Holy fuck! What a fucking amazing voice. Well we know that. Then If Only For The Moment Girl, another underrated song. Holy crap.

U know what. Perry really doesn't need to sing again. He did it all. & yes, he's a God of music. Anyone that sang like this has got to be. If he never opens his mouth again what he has already recorded is historic. Sure I wanna hear more. But holy fuck. I have a feeling someone will open a time capsule in the future, find a few Perry-voiced tunes & try to figure out if they can do some time traveling to get back to the 80s and see him live.

Yeah, JourneyRox, that song was one of my favorite tracks the first time I ever played the album. From the opening line to the his Morrisonesque tribute to Light My Fire it's a vocal masterpiece. I haven't gotten the reissues yet because I was going to try and let the kids put them on my B-day and Christmas list. I don't think I can hold out that long though.

I agree completely with the rest of your post too. His spot in Journey can be replaced, but his voice will never really be. Thank goodness for all the reissues. We can hear it whenever we want to.

I need to take out the old vinyl version & pop it on to tell u for sure but I would swear it sounds better--not just better version, but a better song.

I have compared the FTLOSM original w/this remaster & I swear too they are different. I think Nora is absolutely right. I think Perry added recent new vocals to it.

Music should stop and no one else should attempt to even try to sing anything ever again. His angelic voice has no peer. When I finally leave this earth I only hope that his voice is the last I hear because it is the voice of God...

Robin Zander, Joe Lynn Turner, Freddie Mercury are also favorites of mine and I like them every bit as much as Steve Perry. I don't see their fans writing Harlequin romance novels to them on their message boards.

As for Captured by the Moment, I've always liked that one......great tune and lots of vocal variety in it....you get the vocal highs and lows and the gruffness in such words like "moment". That and stungout are probably my favs off ST.

Besides his work with Cheap Trick, he also had a solo album out a few years ago. A great track on that one would be "Time Will Let You Know". He actually does a rendition on that dueting with his daughter on the Cheap Trick "Silver" DVD. It's also backed by a symphony. Good stuff!

Also, unlike a certain someone, Zander has been singing non-stop since the 70's and putting out new material and touring in Cheap Trick all the time. Still has his voice and hits most if not all the high notes. The new Trick CD "Rockford" is excellent as well.

Yes he has always smoked up until recently. Pretty amazing how his voice has held up so well considering he really does all the wrong things in taking care of it.

The guy can still bring it though. Definitely on my top 5 favorite singers list.

I'm always amazed how many people like Cheap Trick that u wouldn't expect. We had friends down here one yr. When they said they were coming down & trying to figure nites to get together, we were going to a Cheap Trick concert on one of them. I never would have thought this woman would dig Cheap Trick. She's usually "easy listening" all the way. But she got all excited & wanted tickets & had a great time at the show.

My husband remembers when Cheap Trick was just a bar band. His brother told him to go see them & they were going places. He says Robin sounds the same today as he did then. Oh & that Rick still looks the same age. He was old looking even when he was young.
