Why no TBF tunes on tour ??

Postby Liquid_Drummer » Mon Oct 23, 2006 1:44 am

I really think this is a great album. It has an airy huge sound and I think quite a few songs would come off great live. Color of the spirit being a fav. Would love to hear JSS take a stab at that one.

And might I add that the album has the most incredible drum sound ! The drum production is fucking flawless and bows to Steve Smith !

In an interview, Smitty spoke of how hard he worked at perfecting it. The work, for all the guys, was tops, imo. Cain said, at the time, that he considered it their best effort.

You have great pipes, LD. Is it something that you are taking seriously or is it just a hobby?

I dunno. I have thought about taking it serious however I dont have the vocal stamina for it at the moment. Top end of my range gets tired too fast from either lack of doing it or bad technique. For now its for fun however I do sing backups in most of the bands I have been in when I am on drums and I know my voice can hold up when I sing in a lower register...

I would think that Neal NEVER liked that album. Simple as that. He should think about the many fans that did.

Why no TBF tunes on tour ??

Postby i » Mon Oct 23, 2006 6:51 am

Probably because (beyond us) nobody knows the songs. They have a limited set now, and a crowd mixed with DL fans.
They barely get away with DOA and EOTB. I’m thankful for them slipping those in there.
Maybe next tour they can experiment more. I’d love to hear MOL and OM!!!

They ran through Message Of Love during a recent soundcheck - hopefully they will add it soon.

I agree LD.

Drum production has possibly been the weakest aspect of Journey's recording career - but they got it right on TBF.

Thanks Andrew. I didn't realize that was a Journey headliner show. I just thought it was a Journey/Def Leppard one. That's awesome. Now I wish I was going tho.

You know this could be a good way to break audiences in to hearing new songs. First the album tracks like EOTB and DOA(familiar though not part of the DD), then some tracks from TBF(familiar to some of the fans), then next some altogether new stuff.

Jeff's voice isn't low enough to do any TBF tunes.

Yes, JSS has the lows as well as the highs. Just about as versatile a singer as I've heard.

I'd second that, One More in 98 was cool, always liked IJTR too but would go with something more aggresive live.
Big Viv Campbell fan? More a fan of his work outside Lep myself.

This may sound kind of hokey to some of you guys but I think it would make for a fabulous show to had IJTR with the thunder storm sound and light effects going into TBF.

I always thought they kind of "stole" this from the Storm, but an old boot posted here recently showed that Journey used that on (I think) Winds of March in 79 I believe.

I saw them do MOL, OM, Cant Tame the Lion and Castles Burning at '98 shows, thought SA did them better than the album version, thought they'd pursue the heavier side more than they ultimately did as I thought the rock stuff would be his forte. No doubt that JSS would do a great job on them as well.

I wish they would experiment more, I'm burnt out with just hearing the dirty dozen.

Would love to hear Message Of Love live...

I also think that JSS would do a great job with When You Love A Woman. He has the voice for it.
I believe he would produce some goosebumps on people with a live performance of that one. 8)

They are not performed on this tour because this is a GH tour, and there were no "greatest" hits on TBF. You don't go on a nostalgia tour and perform songs that are not nostalgic.

Personally, I would've LOVED this song....if Steve P. had gotten more "strength" behind the vocals.

SO much potential...but no strength...IMO...
