Fuck, how did I NOT see this stupid shit?

Dude, check yourself. You prefer Augeri to Perry? What the Hell is wrong with British people? He wasn't fit to be his baggage handler.

You ever see Perry in a live environment? There was NONE better....NONE.[/quote]

Deano,

I had you figured ALL wrong. I am new here on the board and somehow came to the conclusion from my reading that you hated Perry. I agree with you on Augeri AND I think JSS is a great addition to Journey.

Yeah Marty I did forget ur category. I guess ur a wigglin' loco. I guess I never thought anyone would have come to like the band cos of Augeri if they didn't already like Perry. I was wrong. U surprised me.

I have to say that I became a fan because of Augeri. I first heard Journey on the Armageddon soundtrack and I was blown away. I didn't know anything about them except that they had been around for a long time. (I was 15) I had no clue who Steve Perry was. I assumed that Steve Augeri was their original singer and I became a fan based on that.

Later on, I became a fan of the Pre-Perry and Perry lineups as well, but the Augeri lineup will always hold a special place for me, that's the lineup that I saw live and connected to and thought "that's MY Journey"

Just one fan's perspective :)

Well said and good for you!

I have a few years on ya, my Journey started with Perry and the Infinity album. My first show was Evolution. I was bummed when Rolie left, but liked the Babys so the 'new' guy was okay ;). I enjoyed the 04 and 05 tours and am enjoying the Journey of today. :)

I find the results of this poll quite interesting and telling about who we are as fans. Seems most of us are true blue Journey fans & really don't care who the lead singer is. So, it is about the music!

I voted as "a fan", 'cause I am a fan of Journey. However, I became a fan because of the voice of Steve Perry--it just grabbed me as a silly 9th grader at a high school dance...plus I had a boyfriend that idolized them. As I've matured, I've learned to respect not only the beautiful voice, but also the music itself, and the way each member brings it together like no other group I can think of.

I have not been a 'fan' of Journey with Steve Augeri, not out of spite because of what happened with SP, but rather because I had been busy 'living my life' and raising my kids. Musical interests change, and Journey kinda fell off my radar.

However... in recent months my interest has renewed itself in a BIG WAY!!! Thanks to you guys, who have taught me a lot about the history of the band and it's members. I'm so psyched about the November 9 concert in Baltimore, and I can't wait to hear new music from Journey, WHOEVER is fronting them!!! I will hold out just a little hope for a SP/Journey reunion though...

I think that deep down a lot of us do. However, I feel it is very unlikely to happen. On the other-hand, I am thinking now that he may be interested in doing something solo-wise. I sure hope for at least that much, as we are all missing him to one degree or another. At least most of us do. :)

This might be the most bizarre logic that I've ever read about liking Augeri over Perry. Most of the wackos over at BT like Augeri over Perry because they're 40 year old women, who are in heat and have a red leather fetish. Now, I read from a dude that he actually likes Augeri's voice over Perry's because it just isn't quite as good as Perry's???? Perhaps Journey should find someone who sucks a bit more than Augeri, and then that may well be the very perfect vocalist for Journey. Perhaps, they can ditch this whole lead singer thing, completely, and just become the jam band they started out as!

You're right, John, that has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard!!! No offense, Marty, but...Steve Perry's voice BROUGHT the rest of the music alive. It was the combination of SP's voice and Neal's guitar that made Journey what is was...and it will never be what it once was. Still lookin' forward to JSS though.

Don't forget the songwriting of Cain. I'm as big of a Perry fan you will ever find, but, Cain's contributions simply can't be overlooked. The fucker should never sing lead, because he sucks ass as a vocalist. That said, he's really a great musician and was quite the find for Journey, when Rolie exited stage left.

Jesus Christ, the guy doesn't like Steve Perry, let him!! We all have opinions.

IMO, Marty, the reason Perry's voice is to "out there" is because he had it mixed that way... Augeri had no such authority...

Sorry AFI. Nah!

It's because Perry's voice was the best there ever was & probably ever will be (maybe someone will come along some day that's better, but it sure ain't happened yet). Perry's vox could NOT be overshadowed. & who in their right fuckin mind would want to mix the music over the greatest instrument of all: Perry's vox? They'd be fuckin nuts.

I agree that Perry's voice is stronger than Augeri's. But studio magic could have put Augeri right out there, or toned Perry down. I have heard it argued that Perry's vox were way down in the mix on TBF. If they had wanted it to I'm sure Augeri's voice could have overpowered the music as well.
