I still say a little moderation goes a long way. Pick someone you trust, someone that is here a lot. When anyone, Dean included comes in and starts crap, delete it right away. The less drama the more people that posts, unless the people really like the drama.

Sorry, I do my best to moderrate, but I think involving anyone else (on this forum) would only make things even more complicated.

In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since.

Was I actually supposed to read all that?

Why not? it wasn't any more verbose than some of Fred's latest rants.

Oh Andrew, chill... It's Journey, it's a forum, it's music, it's ENTERTAINMENT!! Deano doesn't mean that stuff he says--he is passionate about the band and his "ass overloads his mouth" sometimes (sorry, but it's funny), but he is a good man!! I thought McNeil's (McNeal, whatever) posts were pretty offensive and even worse, not clever or entertaining... What are you worried about really? Can't you just delete all the emails you get from the complainers? You're adding more and more posters relative to the few who say they are going to leave, right?

Okay, begin bashing :)

So true. There are just so many extremes and grey areas in between here that it would take a team of psychologists to decipher them and then I'm not sure they would get it right. I truly sympathize with your situation. I don't want Fred or Dean to leave though. They both have something to contribute.

You know, I've been hearing that alot lately, that my posts have changed in their demeanor.
K, I see your point and think maybe you are right.
But you know why I've been getting angrier lately?
I get tired of some of the same mundane crap getting flung around, especially when it comes my way.
I got Logjam stalking me, posting ridiculous pix and retarded comments just about anytime I post (go back in this thread; there's Logjam with pic in tow). McNeil... I think he and I have an understanding. Don't even get me started on Nancy...
I guess just like some of you are getting tired of Dean, people like me are getting tired of others...
Maybe I do rant alittle more colorful lately...
What can I say?
Am I sensitive or losing sleep over it? Nope.
But when folks like you bring it to my attention,
folks I've posted with here and had fun with say things like that to me,
then I know enuff to listen, take some advice and regroup.
So I'll take your advice, it's good advice...
But I will still have the nastiness for some...
Sorry, some things can't be controled :)

fred_journeyman wrote:Sigh...okay, I'll try to explain what I meant...during the Dark Ages, the arts, including literature, song, music, manners, respect all of it pretty much went out the door. It was only because of a few monks and priests who collected AND guarded the literature that they could get their hands on, that the Dark Ages ended at all, thus opening the door for the Enlightenment. Did I mean that BT is enlightened? Of course not. What I meant was that here, people seem to enjoy wallowing in the sewer (Dark Ages), while over at BT, they do not (Enlightment). That's all I meant.

And, for the record, I'll say this one more time: if people want to swear and use foul language, that's up to them. What troubles me about it (and the ONLY thing that troubles me about it) is the FACT that as soon as that begins happening, quality debate gets thrown out the window as the threads are too often sidetracked while one person insults another person, who insults another person, etc.

Apparently, I'm now seen as:
1) A whiner
2) Against Free Speech
3) Hypocrite
4) Holier than thou
5) In need of getting laid
6) Having no sense of humor
7) Sick
8) etc., etc.,

Dean, on the other hand is:
1) Funny
2) Irreverant
3) Funny
4) Possessing a great sense of humor
5) Highly intelligent
6) etc., etc., etc.

Now, those who have taken the time to get really PO'd about all of this have some explaining to themselves to do. Here I am - ONE PERSON - who is asking for people to acknowledge that there just MIGHT be a better way to communicate and I am verbally assaulted for it. Deano, on the other hand can come in here and wish AIDS on someone and he is essentially excused - "That's Deano." "Yeah, that was out of line, but DANG that Deano is funny!" etc., etc.

Hey Fred....

First and foremost...Thanks for the clarification. I'm elated to hear nobody really believes that there is anything "enlightening" about BT. My apologies for misconstruing what you wrote. Also, for the record, I think I made myself VERY clear that Dean's comment about wishing AIDS on someone wasn't acceptable, AT ALL! I thought he was way out of line, and I suspect every person on this board thought the very same thing. The only point I made is that to be human is to be flawed and Dean or anyone else shouldn't be publically flogged for saying something that he or she shouldn't have said!

Finally, I agree with your point on Dave. Dave is one of the few people I really enjoyed interacting with at BT, over many years, and one of the few on that site who actually contributed intelligent dialogue, for discussion. Like me, Dave actually despises all of the mindless postings on BT and has expressed as much, but, he is a better person than I am, in terms of his ability to be MUCH more diplomatic about the nonsense over there. BT better hope Dave doesn't grow tired of the nonsense and walk away like so many else have. There will be nobody left over there once Augeri's departure is officially announced!

Andrew, say it isn't so!! I finally found somewhere to talk with some friendly intelligent people.and you are a great moderator not to strict but strict enough to keep most posters in line..this meltdown will end when you post your review..everyone is on edge waiting for the news...even tho' we kinda know what to expect, we really don't know for sure..Granny (Carol)

I read the first couple paragraphs & thought to myself, "what the hell is this?" I skimmed the rest of it, then read the last paragraph, realizing then it was much to do about nothing I'm interested in.. Point taken! Thanks for the laugh!

Especially after Street Talk was released and the We Are The World Event.

Sorry Sherrie but lots of people don't know who Steve Perry is. Yeah I know. It's as much a shock to me as to u. I've had friends who were big fans of Foreigner & Styx, knew the lead singers, could name & sing several hit tunes, but altho they recognized the name "Journey" couldn't remember any songs. Then, when I sang Faithfully & Open Arms, they went oh yeah, I like them too. When I mentioned Steve Perry, they said who's he? The biggest shock of all was that they remembered Oh Sherrie as a Journey song & that was the song by "Journey" they remembered most. They were very shocked when I said that was a Steve Perry solo song. Oh well.

I've said exactly this before but loons doubt it. Even Monker the non-loon doubted it, but it's the ugly truth they don't wanna face whilst mocking Neal's throwaway comment about how it would be nice to be a household name once.
Truth is, SP god bless him he's an awesome frontman, was little more a household name than neal.

I'm missing something here. Please point me to the post where I doubted some people don't know Steve Perry's name. Where did that come from?

Well, the outpouring of grief over Deano’s departure is a little puzzling, as well as a little sappy. Waiting for “Open Arms” to start playing. Those who disagree with Dean are not permitted to post a reply? Give me a fucking break. Maybe some of his lemmings are waiting for his every word, but I for one won’t be bullied. So…yeah, “Gay” comes to mind when I see people rush to defend him. He will be back. Like I said before, I don’t mind. It’s entertaining. But don’t fucking tell me that I can’t comment on his boorishness when I see fit. That’s all!

The bottom line is everyone has to be accountable for what they do ,including myself----most people are accountable and a few select people like to place blame on other people for acting the way they do,or in other words play the victim.
these select few are easy to pick out especially when they are really bad at playing that game. (i.e.-carla)

Oh, please. Don't blame me, or anybody else, because Dean had an inability to control himself and it caught up to him. It's HIS words that gets him in trouble. It's HIS decision to not come back - not mine. I had NOTHING to do with this...I don't think I even posted in this thread until tonight.

No more bootlegs for the rest of the board, no more information. And especially after next week with what is going to be going on, that will be a huge loss here. All just because there wasn't enough "polite discussion" aka same boring shit.

Nothing will change with him gone.

And before you say he will be back, I'm not so sure.

This forum's loss.

He's an addict. He'll be back, if Andrew allows it.

And, it's NOT a forum's loss if the OWNER believes it is for the best. People come and people go...the forum stays until the owner closes it.

It was chapter 1 of "The Great Gatsby". Andy Kaufman once read it at one of his concerts. The crowd thought it was a joke until he wouldn't stop and completely pissed everyone off. Shear brilliance.

Anyway the long windedness and utter trite of it reminded me of someone who thought he was so much above everyone else.

Here's what I think...(not that anyone really cares)

It appears to me that there will always be a 'bully' on this site, as you will find in almost any organized group of people. It just so happens that the 'bully' here as far as I can tell is a guy named Rockin' Deano. He often, and I mean OFTEN, says inappropriate, really awful things. I seriously doubt though that he truly wants to eat the corn out of anyone's shit or wants any of us to die of AIDS. He also has been funny and kind to some people, and I actually had my first discussion with him the other night, and it was pretty cool, and almost totally appropriate. And I look forward to meeting him & Lula in person next weekend, along with lots of other folks on here. It DOESN'T make me a kool-aid drinker or whatever you may want to think about that. The truth is, as I've read here over the past month or so, I've agreed and I've disagreed with most of you guys at one point or another. I checked this place out because it has the best information I could find about a topic I'm interested in, Journey (and Steve Perry...)

Now Dean's gone, and it looks like there may be a few people waiting to jump right into that role as resident bully. Some of the people who are criticizing Deano for his insults are in fact now throwing insults at those who do not choose to vilify him. Hell, earlier today I read someone's post and the word "fuck" was listed 4 times in 2 sentences!! It's really kinda like the food chain around here: eat or be eaten. At least most of Dean's posts are relevant to the topic at hand, and/or he shares information about the band, which is why we're all here to start with!

My request is for a LITTLE compromise--insult each other all you want, but at the end of the day just realize that we're all mighty when we're sitting in our own home protected by a little thing called cyberspace.

I just read the "apology" thread, and Dean I hope you choose to continue posting here. You definitely make things interesting, to say the least... 8)

Deano's username is active again, but whether he choses to post is up to him - I'd like an apology to all first.

I didn't read this thread until today. But, let me tell ya, it's about the funniest thread of posts I have ever read.

Deano hates you...cuz why? He can't do and say whatever he wants? But, of course, he CAN because his username is activated.

Fred is addicted and needs you to help him?
