As for it purely being for Post-Production...
Exactly...
as in 'canned vocals' for a 'live' performance...

Completely agree. And might I add that Autotune is used way waaaaay to too much in today's pop music. Bleh.

Absolutely.
And I am not just talking about Autotune or Pitch correction.
With pretty much ANY mid-range DAW system, you can do amazing things.

Take 'looping' for instance.
You can loop a section of a song and lay down 50 takes of the same verse then go back
and pick-and-choose, splice-and-edit the runs that sound good.
Some folks, like your Ashleys, Lohans and Hiltons need to do this so they can
get a take that actually sounds decent enuff to put to record.
Others, like Maynard (he is famous for this in the studio), will do 10-20 takes of the same line or verse, changing up the way he sings it each time, to find a take that 'He' is happy with
.
You can hear this kind of stuff all over Arrival and Generations.
Take one of my faves from Arrival, "Live and Breathe"...
At around the 4:30 mark you hear Augeri sing the phrase,
"We found the sun, in you I live and breathe" for the last time.
This has ALWAYS been one of my favoriyte Augeri vocal runs.
But if you listen close, and I was dismayed when I noticed this, you can hear that
"We found the sun" is one take and
"In you I live and breathe" is a totally seperate take edited in.
You know Perry could've knocked that run out in one, seemless take back in the day.
I'm sure Jeff could it too, Chalfant as well.

DAWs, whether ProTools or Sonar or Ableton, are awesome recording programs but some of the
available 'tools' are widely over-used and have made it easy for a medicore musician to sound really good.

WOW! Didn't think you had ANYTHING positive to say about Augeri. The performance of WYLAW was LIVE, protools live is BULLSHIT and you know it, and again, Augeri was FLAWLESS on it. Carry on....knock him full of your negativity again...

You are one clueless, lost soul...
LIVE back in 2004 maybe...
But I commend you on your faith in the guy.
Thanks to DAWs like ProTools, I guess you have that
killer TS II coming out next year.
Carry on...

Who asked u to hijack my thread?

This thread was about JEFF SCOTT SOTO singing at the show I went to on Tuesday. It was not about ur memories of Augeri. Have a little decency. There are a GAZILLION threads on the official Journey site where u can praise Augeri all day long.

& for the record, u are completely delusional if u think Augeri was live. All u have to do is listen to some boots or watch some of AR's videos. But u know what, I've suggested this to u before & u obviously don't listen. Now, go back to the official site & leave my threads alone please. I am asking politely.

I don't believe that any of us know for certain that this will be done, or would be needed for TS II, granted SA was rough on Tyketto's Shine but very good on TS, a few years earlier.
On the other hand, the nature of these recordings being demo/song writing sessions, etc, they may not be studio polished quality and may require some correcting. That still doesn't indicate to me that he couldn't sing when they were recorded.

For the record, I believe Journeyinto2001 when he/she says that Augeri nailed "When You Love A Woman" live. He sounded great at the show I saw in 2001. This was well after the Vegas dvd was out, and I was listening carefully for whether he would sound as good live as he did on the dvd.

He did.

He wasn't flawless, but no one ever is. And there was no lip synching...he had enough of those little "human" moments that are a part of being at a live show. Bottom line, he was great and I was pleased, so I understand where Journeyinto2001 is coming from.

Once again, I have to say thanks for putting this version of MOL on youtube. It really Rocks.

Thank you. And thanks very much for explaining how one can tell it is definitely live and NOT lip-synched (enough of those little "human" moments that convince you without a doubt that it is completely live- just like JSS on MOL posted).

Throughout the 2005 tour Elson would open up Steve's mic at key moments to address the crowd.
Augeri has always heavily interacted with fans, but this had noticeably begun to dissipate in 2005.

True Augeri fans are all-too knowledgable on the guy's vocal limitations and can instantaneously distinguish his true voice from a tape deck.

You're an ass-juice siphoning flunkie.
Fuck off.

Why?
Because ur treasured vaginal slime-encrusted Augeri sweat towel spoke to u and told u so?
Why don't u ask people inside the industry and see what they have to say?
What about vocal melodic rocker Michael St. Allen who was screaming about Tapegate from every hilltop long before Deano?

If by "predictable" u mean I can always be relied on to say what TRULY went down than u are damn right.
Grab a spatula and try prying ur lips off of Augeri's red leather cod piece for once.

I'll believe Augeri was live in 2001. Did he sing MOL in 2001? He didn't sing it at the show I went to in Chicago.

I believe Augeri was mostly live until 2004 actually. That's when I was 1st told something was going on & when I noticed him passing vocals over to Deen & struggling.

I don't believe he was live in 2005 (except the very beginning shows where he was mostly live) or 2006 (until the bitter end) tho.

& ur welcome.

Do you think you OWN a thread? I can post on ANY thread at ANY time here and I WILL. Get over yourself. I have seen Augeri struggle and pass off parts of songs to Deen. That is a well known fact. Lip-synching is BULLSHIT, a rumor that started here and has NEVER had proof to back it up. The Augeri haters are the only ones promoting this but again, NO UNDISPUTABLE PROOF has been offered. No I don't own a thread. But this was a good one in support of Jeff singing a great song till u went & ruined it. Now would u like it if someone did that to one of ur support Augeri, pray for Augeri or Augeri wiggling threads over at the official board? No, ud be upset. So I'm upset u ruined my thread okay?

There is PLENTY of proof. I have to go do some work here so I can't post it for u right now tonite. But it's been offered up time after time after time. Listen to any boots from last year. Listen especially to Be Good To Yourself. It's identical nite after nite after nite.

U need to give it a rest. Now, go take ur beefs w/TNC to PM & those u have w/me as well.

Than why does the moderator of this very forum selectively close threads involving rumors (including this most latest one http://forums.melodicrock.com/phpBB/vie ... er#3782947) while letting other certain ones stay up?

Why would he address the rumor of lip-synching on the front page of his website if it was based on pure and total hokum?

Does he need to spell it out to you people?

The Augeri haters are the only ones promoting

Dean and I were previously the staunchest Augeri-defenders on the face of the planet.

What about our very own would-be journalist, Bionic, who says multiple sources have confirmed everything?
What about impartial music tech, Svante, who also corrorborated what Dean had been saying?
What about those close to the band whom in-confidance have privately confimed everything?

TNC, its even easier than that...

Augeri sounded pretty good in England until he fucked up during Faithfully one night.
Some folks have alos noticed "different mic handling' techniques, i.e. most singers, including past-tours Augeri, move the mic closer/further from the mouth depending on what they are singing--Augeri was keeping the mic to his lips ALL NIGHT.

Rumors and accusations come out...
US tour starts and....
Drum roll please...
THE FUCKER COULDN'T SING FOR SHIT!
Sent packing after 4 -5 shows and hasn't been heard from since.

Breaking this down in much simpler terms, such that my 6 yo would understand, might make it easier for this moron
to understand...

I think you'll like it here; this place nd BT serve different purposes for each individual. No reason you can't have a good time on both sites.

BTW, finally got around to gettin' Lost In Translation ($7.99 at iTunes) and I am kicking myself
for taking so long to do it!
EXCELLENT STUFF!
I still say the band needs to re-record 'Believe In Me' for the next album...
