WITOY--hate it too, should have been held over for Perry's still awaited solo follow up as a nice sentiment for his mother, sucks as a Journey song however.

NIG you have a chance to jam with jeremey and frontiers and your not doing it??!!!!

I can't. Wife has her formal office Xmas party that night. She will divorce me if I miss it.

Fortunately I have another chance to play with them in VA next month, if Jeremey and his guitarist are cool with it.

Me too, a great lead out solo from Neal that rivals the WCN end solo. Always wished they would have done this live.

Yeah, listening to that outro now. Reminds me of Neal's New Age solo stuff.

Can't Tame the Lion - Proves that just because a song rocks doesn't mean it's good. I want to like it, but can't. Something about it bugs me and I can't figure it out.

Great performance from Neal and Smitty again. But I have the same probably you might be thinking of, I think its the lyrics as the song rocks. Some of the lyrics are ok, but the can't tame the lion part of the sort of comes off as a silly metaphor.

You may be onto somehting.

Hell, JR thought enough of it to actually risk doing county time for it during "Le Affaire Karaoke Bar."

Message of Love - Great song. Love the shredding, screaming intro by Neal. The only downer are that the verses seem to kind of lumber along. Fortunately, the rest of the song is top-notch.

One More - The classical intro is cool. I don't like the sound of Perry's vocals on this one. Some great playing toward the end of the tune by Neal but, other than that, it doesn't do much for me.

When You Love a Woman - I love Neal's melodic, jazz-like playing on this one. Good song, though I don't think it was really quite good enough to garner a Grammy nomination.

If He Should Break Your Heart - I've always thought this was one of the better songs on this album. Again, the playing on this is excellent, though nothing really sticks out as totally superb. Still, it's a great song.

Forever in Blue - One of the worst pieces of crap ever committed to an album by Journey, in my opinion. The lyrics are awkward and the music uninspired.

Castles Burning - Again, great playing by Neal here. I also don't care for how Perry's vocals were recorded yet again and the end of the song is way too repetitive. That being said, this song is much better live than here on the album.

Don't Be Down on Me Baby - This one's not much better than "Forever in Blue" in my opinion. Not much more to say about this one.

Still She Cries - I love Perry's vocal on this one but don't care much for it altogether. I do like some of Neal's tasty, clean licks on this one, though.

Colors of the Spirit - This one's down there with FIB and DBDOMB. The African-style sound doesn't work.

When I Think of You - I originally loved this tune and then it fell out of favor. Then I learned that Perry had written this about his mother so now it doesn't quite seem so sappy. Good tune overall.

Easy to Fall - This song is okay but it doesn't really do much for me.

Can't Tame the Lion - I'd say this is tied with the title track as my favorite on the album. I love the intro.

It's Just the Rain - The pace is a little too slow on this song for me. Seems to last forever. All in all, not a bad tune but I can't listen to it very much at all.

Trial by Fire - Along with CTTL, my favorite song on the album. I love the Biblically-inspired lyrics in the first verse especially. Also my favorite vocal by SP on the album.

Baby I'm a Leavin' You - I know many don't like this one but I like it better than several other tracks here. I just take it for what it is, the guys having fun in the studio fooling around.

I Can See it in Your Eyes - It's not one of my favorites but I think it should've been included on the U.S. release in place of one of the slower tracks. Would've made a big difference in the feel of the album, in my opinion.

god help me, I like Perry's voice A LOT on this record.

At times I don't care for his delivery (Over the top at points) but I like his sound.

Trial By Fire (the song) - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Wow. Sure doesn't make you excited about a future Journey album with Perry.

Things happen for a reason. And what happened with Perry was too bad for all involved, but I don't think I would have liked the direction they would have taken with him back in the band. More albums like this and I can guarantee I wouldn't be on a Journey message board.

Bingo. Too trite or something?

Sorta cringeworthy, but overall I think the track is marvelous.

Sort of makes you want to slit your wrist doesn't it? Always had that effect on me.

The new spin on TBF is that it sounds more "mature" (aka boring)

Yeah, when was the last time you heard the word "mature" mentioned in conjunction with a Journey album and then you didn't want to puke?

My thoughts exactly. When I first listened to the album I suppose I tried to justify it and fool my self with this is a "more mature" Journey idea. But it did not take long for me to put this CD aside and not have much desire to listen to it anymore. 3 or 4 songs I like on it. Thats it. Dare I say, I think I like ROR a bit more than TBF  . Well neither is all that great in my opinion.

I like Trial By Fire.

The songs that I dislike are: Colors Of The Spirit, Cant Tame The Lion, and the worst EVER Journey song Baby I'm A Leavin You.

CD highlights are: Still She Cries, Trial By Fire, Forever In Blue & Dont Be Down On Me Baby.

It thought it was a rock solid comeback effort. If they would of toured behind this album it would of been HUGE!

I am not surprised one bit about TBF's melancholic sound. The guys were not in the greatest state of their collective mind,so to speak.
There was a lot of sadness, regret and anger behind that album...

As for the record itself, everytime I play it,I go directly to 'Still She Cries'.Love Perry's voice on it,but what really touches me is Cain's piano solo - I don't know how to describe that solo.....it's like the song had some little holes of different shapes and Cain found the right shaped notes for the right holes.

Ok,I was trying to say that it is a perfect piano solo.

Oh,and I really dislike 'Colors of the Spirit'.Always skip it.
