And so do you, AR.

As long as Perry is the one trying to protect what is left of Journey's legacy, then he's doing his job for Journey fans...a much better job than brother Neal & co. have been doing. I could rag on Perry all day for not doing what I want him to do, but in the end I know it ain't gonna change if or when he'll do something. Alot of people's frustration with him is at an all time high, knowing the dude probably still has the goods but won't share them. Not my call. I'm glad he didn't take the route Journey took. He also never says jack shit negative toward the rest of the band, nomatter what stupid shit they do. Gives him a major pass in my book. He could have just ignored the fans altogether, like the rest of Journey has been doing for years.

yogi wrote:Journey died the minute the group and everyone in their inner circle led by Neal Schon decided to con their fans with tapegate. Steve Augeri WAS NOT the only band member lipping' 'Open My Eyes To A ........' As far as I know Jonathan lips errrrr I mean sings that part.
When Steve Perry quit Journey he asked Neal to NOT fracture the Journey name.
Allowing every band member plus roadies a lead on Generations regardless of vocal ability did just that.
Running a new lead singer out mid tour did just that.
Conning your ever faithful fans by memorixing parts of your show did just that.
P.S. GREAT post Eighty Rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fred_journeyman wrote:I do not expect the same level of "communication" from Perry that I expect from Journey. Why? Because Journey is working. Perry is "retired." Yep, his most recent "interview" was full of "fluff," however it was the type of "fluff" that he obviously wanted to talk about and he did NOT bring up that "fluff;" the people asking the questions did. Sure, there were tougher questions in the pile, I'm sure, but why enter the fray, when Journey doesn't even want to enter the fray? What happens in Journey is probably the last thing Perry concerns himself with.
Regarding the toughest question - whether or not he'll record anything - I don't believe he really knows the answer to that question.
AR, maybe you would be a candidate for your own KMA club if Perry has one.

They have been out there playing for the fans, meeting them at meet-n-greets, etc. Meanwhile, Perry continues to say how he misses singing for the fans and that other garbage and he rarely ever gives an interview or interacts with the fans, at least not as much as the guys currently in the band. Hell, JSS has interacted more with the fans over the last few months than Perry has in the last 20 years.

Perry is retired. Journey is not. Try and show a bit of Christian charity, Dave.
Arkansas wrote:jrnychick wrote: ... why does he bother to do any interviews/ Q&As ...
Because he has a Journey catalogue to sell! And greatist hits/classic albums are well-known Cmas sellers.
New news, or no new news, matters not. I don't think it's about news at all. It's about record sales. Just do a little PR, especially on the tails of the band's tour, and watch those albums fly off the racks for Cmas.
later~
AR wrote:Just to be clear, my main beef isn't with Perry, or that he wishes to remain retired. It is with the fans who think that Journey has no right to exist without SP. And also with anyone who thinks that an almost 60 year old man could get up and front that band in 2006.
jrnychick wrote:Oh I agree completely. It's just extremely frustrating to me because he only talks to people who won't ask the hard questions, or he picks and chooses "fluff" emails to answer. If it's really about selling the back catalog and pushing the remasters, why not do interviews across the country? Why not grant interviews to Andrew and others in the field? The people who are going to buy the remasters without a huge promotional push are the fans like us who already know about them anyways. If Steve chooses not to do interviews at all, that's fine and I can respect that. But don't come out with these once-a-year deals that tell us he was in the studio for two days. I want to know why he hasn't released new material in 10 years.

What I am not fine with are fans of the guy claiming that Journey is "ignoring" the fans while the guy they worship isn't doing much of anything besides talking occasionally.

Exactly.

Personally Perry has opened up more this year, and in the last 3 months than he has since he dropped Neal's sorry ass in 1998. The last 10 yrs have proven who the real man is and it hasnt been Neal. I feel sorry for JSS, because when it all comes down, Neal will screw with him too. Neal couldnt do nothing with "his" band in the 70's, until Perry came along and brought it to life.
I am a die hard Perry fan, with that being said, I enjoy hearing from him. Personally I dont care whether he releases anything again or not - that right and privledge is his. The man has class, unlike Neal who is always wiggling around trying to stay afloat. In many ways, Journey is kinda like all of Neal's marriages, he cant remain FAITHFUL.
Jump ship now Jeff - cuz he will eventually take you down too!!

Neal simply likes to work and make a living doing what he loves. Who gives a rat's ass if you like it? You'd buy a CD of Perry farting.

I was a HUGE fan of Journeys minus Perry until..........................................
Everyone including their dogs singing lead on Generations
TAPEGATE
Then thinking you can run any swingin dic k out there to front one of the GREATEST bands of all time.
When JSS goes down and they bring in Whitney Houston are they still Journey???
What about a Leo Sayer fronted Journey?????
Why are they Journey and not Soul Sirkus???????
Keep telling yourself that they havent fractured the Journey name with the events of the past 12 months.
Their asses are laughing allllllllllllll the way to the bank.
