I found a couple in this area, but only one listed as a child molester. From the info given it looks like it was a statutory rape by a guy just over the line and a girl just under. Frankly, that surprised me.

Yikes!

My hubby is a cop, and although the reds could very well be someone scary, you have to remember, a sexual offender is not the same as a sexual PREDATOR. The latter scares me the most. You can be an offender just from an 18 year old having sex with a 15 or 16 year old, and the parents press charges. Although it still may be someone you don't want in your neighborhood, there are many different reasons they are labeled offenders.

Yep, SPH's hubby & mine have worked these cases for years, an offender can be a 19 year old having sex with his 17 year old girlfriend, her parents find out & BOOM...press charges & he's labeled an "offender". Predators are different.

Very true, but if the picture of the man appears to be in his fifties and you click on "convictions" and it says Lewd conduct with a child under 14, it's a pretty good indicator that this is not the case!

Exactly, here in FL they make it very clear the difference too, not sure about other states.

The really scaring thing is that I live in a town of just 5000 people and there are 6 of these offenders within a 5 mile radius. (And I have 2 young daughters).
When I bought my house 3 1/2 years ago we did this search as a discovery before I bought it. My kids and I knew we had a "bad man" 4 houses down from us. My kids have seen his picture, they don't walk in front of his house, and they don't get out of my line of sight when out front. (They play in the back yard alot).

I bought the house anyway because like I said it's a very small town, the house was perfect for us and I could afford it on a single mom's salary.
The rest of the neighbors are great.

The scariest part is that my and his backyards share a fence with 1 of the 2 elementary schools in town! His overlooks more of the school parking lot, mine overlooks the playground. And all the kids in my neighborhood who walk to school have to walk in front of or across the street from his house.

Our town is so smalll that no matter where you live, you are close to a convicted sex offender. I can't allow my kids any of the "freedoms" I had as a child to just "run around" town. And I think that that is the saddest part of all.

I have had that site on my favorites for a few years now. I found three near my daughter's school, two of them are father/son. That shocked me........
