People..all the Police tickets are not 225 dollars! There are seats as cheap as 55 bucks. Not premium, mind you, but a seat is a seat. And 225 bucks for top flight seats is CHEAP compared to what they could be charging.

As for all the music today being shit, yeah, alot of it is. But, truthfully, alot of the music being made by some of my favorite artists of yesteryear (if they bother making new music at all) is just as shitty. There are some great bands and artists out there on the fringes (and even some in the mainstream) making geat music. Listen to Ben Harper, Tool, the Drive by truckers, the bastard sons of Johnny Cash, Howie Day,Los Lonely Boys, Robert Randolph and the Family band, the North Mississippi All Stars...and the list goes on. I can be a bit of a geezer myself when it comes to music, but believe me, the good stuff is out there. You just have to look a little harder.

Take a guy like Soto. As a complete artist he could run circles around anyone AI has ever had. Yet, I'd venture to say that Kelly Clarkson has probably already outearned him because of endorsements, concerts, and a ludicrous contract with her label. That show makes me want to puke. And the way they exploit retards/"slow" people is deplorable. Yeah, that's something I want to watch. I think William Hung's album actually went Gold or Platinum. Shows you what kind of people watch that show.

Yeah, what St. John said! 8)

Eff, man....I've been trying to do this kind of thing since 1987....and NOW IT'S HAPPENING ~ 20 YEARS LATER!!

not to mention,
"substance abuse", now that everyone is in freakin rehab now. can't they just have their issues and play good music anymore?

i think some of the grooviest tunes were written on "substance abuse" all of aerosmiths stuff,, im talking more of the 60' and 70's... the stones, beatles,, lennon wanted to be recorded while "on" because he felt genius,, now these 18 year old no talent tabloid cover stories are going into rehab,, do they party harder then keef????? no way,, rehab is cop out for some..
i agree. if they get caught on some tabloid drooling on theirselves or sluuuurrr
on tv, they instantly scream rehab instead of just suckin it up and movin on to pg. 2.

Good post! I agree! Exploiting stupid people is wrong. That's why I try to support some of the new bands by buying cd's when I like their music. I love the "friends who played in a garage" stories, and that's how it should be! Manufactured bands are not my thing. That being said, I do think Chris Daughtry has something. Too bad he had to use that show for us to see it. When an eighties band has a new album out, even if it wasn't my favorite artist, I purchase it too. Us as consumers are part of this whole industry too. It all does suck now. Our "mix" channel has been having "retro 80's weekends" about once a month now, and I am enjoying it very much. I think the radio stations are definitely aware of the resurgance of the 80's. Hopefully that resurgance will give way to some young kids sitting in a garage right now to get music back to where it should be!

When I was 10 the music was Elvis, Patty Page ,Johnny Mathis, the Platters etc.Next ,I remember Frankie Avalon, Paul Anka,Bobby Rydell, the 4 Seasons, but in 1964 the Beatles hit and music changed forever. In 1970 ELton with Your Song and he was huge and later 3 Dog Night. In the late 70's music changed again with Led Zep,Aerosmith,Journey,Foreigner,Styx and they all were musicians, writers and had lead singers with unmistakable voices.I don't want to forget Rod Stewart & Billy Joel. It seems like BonJovi was mid 80's but they fit the mold. These last groups will always have a following of all ages b/c they are real music. Check Geo Michael live 2006 singing Praying for time in Europe on You Tube.Who would think he is still that good. Oh , I almost forgot the one and only Freddie Mercury & Queen. Jimi Jamison and Mickey Thomas also are great singers. Women- Its Ann Wilson,Annie Lennox and Stevie Nicks and Carly Simon. If you haven't heard Johnny Contardo sing In the still of the night,it beats Perry's high notes.

Bottom line question is, "Will we be hearing Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Usher on the radio 20 years from now?" I think not.... When you can still turn on the radio and hear music that originally aired 25-30 years ago, you know it's good. It's stood the test of time because it's good, period.

Radio's a dying industry today because of satellite and iPods so we're really not getting to hear new music the way we used to. Back in the day, we all looked forward to hearing American Top 40 every Sunday night (remember using the tape recorder when your favorites came one?) On AOL Satellite radio, they've been replaying the original American Top 40 countdowns from the 70's and 80's. It's really crazy to listen to them again, brings back a lot of good memories.

I think the '80s artists are coming back because those of us who grew up with it enjoy it. We (in general) have money for tickets and want to go to a few of our OWN rock concerts, with bands that WE like. Some of us even bring our kids to the shows, so they know what it's like to see talented musicians play live. I also think it's about reliving some of the great moments of our youths. Who wouldn't want to hear their favorite bands play live again, singing the songs they loved? It takes you back to a time when life was simpler, when my biggest problem was which idiotic boy broke my heart that week! :P

Please. The ENTIRE field at Fenway Park is $225. If you've ever been to a baseball stadium, you can look up the seating chart on ticketbastard and realize if you're not on the field you're going to be paying money to watch a screen. The $55 seats are in the wayyy back, on the opposite end from the stage. In a moderately-sized arena, that isn't so bad, but in a stadium, you might as well stay in the parking lot.

I just wish one of these bands would come out and do a tour with moderate ticket prices, realizing that there are a lot of younger fans who want to go to these shows but who can't afford it. Bands like the Stones, Bon Jovi, etc, are still cool, and lots of people my age and under (I'm 25) still regularly listen to them, but our age bracket is basically being shut out of the live experience.

I feel in the effort of making more money now, promoters, bands, and the entire industry have completely forgotten about trying to make sure their music reaches new fans and will live on past any one band's existence. It's kind of sad, really. I mean, take a band like The Who, who's been touring the US pretty regularly since the Quadrophenia redux tour in 1996...if you're an older fan, you've seen them already, between tours in 1989, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2004 and the current one. The people who should be going to see them are people my age, who would be newcomers to the band but still have a passion for their music (and believe me, plenty of people do), but there's no way we can afford the tickets. Especially when you have a new album out, like The Who does and Journey will next year, that none of your older fans will bother listening to...I'm willing to bet if Journey did a tour with really cheap ticket prices and got a lot of younger fans into the shows, they'd be able to get their new music across a lot better.

But then again, this is the music industry...so it's all about money NOW, without any real thought about the future.

If The Police didn't charge $225 for those seats, someone else would be (scalpers). They are setting aside a portion of the tour proceeds for a charity as well - While I can't speak for Stewart or Andy, I believe Sting makes millions in interest on his millions every month, so I don't think the tour is as much about money as it is about realizing that time is short at their age, and if it's going to happen, it's best to make it happen while they can still get around.

Please. The ENTIRE field at Fenway Park is $225. Ummm....I said they were cheap seats...and they are not just playing stadiums on this tour. Besides, I've seen quite a few stadium shows in my day, and -I'll stress again, if you really wanna be there, a seat is a seat.
