Take a guy like Soto. As a complete artist he could run circles around anyone AI has ever had. Yet, I'd venture to say that Kelly Clarkson has probably already outearned him because of endorsements, concerts, and a ludicrous contract with her label. That show makes me want to puke. And the way they exploit retards/"slow" people is deplorable. Yeah, that's something I want to watch.I think William Hung's album actually went Gold or Platinum. Shows you what kind of people watch that show.

In the late 70's music changed again with Led Zep,Aerosmith,Journey,Foreigner,Styx and they all were musicians, writers and had lead singers with unmistakable voices.I don't want to forget Rod Stewart & Billy Joel. It seems like BonJovi was mid 80's but they fit the mold. These last groups will always have a following of all ages b/c they are real music. Check Geo Michael live 2006 singing Praying for time in Europe on You Tube.Who would think he is still that good. Oh , I almost forgot the one and only Freddie Mercury & Queen. Jimi Jamison and Mickey Thomas also are great singers. Women- Its Ann Wilson,Annie Lennox and Stevie Nicks and Carly Simon. If you haven't heard Johnny Contardo sing In the still of the night,it beats Perry's high notes.

When you can still turn on the radio and hear music that originally aired 25-30 years ago, you know it's good. It's stood the test of time because it's good, period.
Radio's a dying industry today because of satellite and iPods so we're really not getting to hear new music the way we used to. Back in the day, we all looked forward to hearing American Top 40 every Sunday night (remember using the tape recorder when your favorites came one?) On AOL Satellite radio, they've been replaying the original American Top 40 countdowns from the 70's and 80's. It's really crazy to listen to them again, brings back a lot of good memories.

It shouldn't be, but if you search you will find out why.

People are running to see these bands again b/c the music was good and singers actually sang live(most of the time)
Besides there is nothing like a live concert....gets your heart and soul going....

Please. The ENTIRE field at Fenway Park is $225. If you've ever been to a baseball stadium, you can look up the seating chart on ticketbastard and realize if you're not on the field you're going to be paying money to watch a screen. The $55 seats are in the wayyy back, on the opposite end from the stage. In a moderately-sized arena, that isn't so bad, but in a stadium, you might as well stay in the parking lot.
I just wish one of these bands would come out and do a tour with moderate ticket prices, realizing that there are a lot of younger fans who want to go to these shows but who can't afford it. Bands like the Stones, Bon Jovi, etc, are still cool, and lots of people my age and under (I'm 25) still regularly listen to them, but our age bracket is basically being shut out of the live experience.
I feel in the effort of making more money now, promoters, bands, and the entire industry have completely forgotten about trying to make sure their music reaches new fans and will live on past any one band's existence. It's kind of sad, really. I mean, take a band like The Who, who's been touring the US pretty regularly since the Quadrophenia redux tour in 1996...if you're an older fan, you've seen them already, between tours in 1989, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2004 and the current one. The people who should be going to see them are people my age, who would be newcomers to the band but still have a passion for their music (and believe me, plenty of people do), but there's no way we can afford the tickets. Especially when you have a new album out, like The Who does and Journey will next year, that none of your older fans will bother listening to...I'm willing to bet if Journey did a tour with really cheap ticket prices and got a lot of younger fans into the shows, they'd be able to get their new music across a lot better.
But then again, this is the music industry...so it's all about money NOW, without any real thought about the future.
