Damn, I have misunderstood melodic all my life. I am so depressed now. Should I go jump in the ocean?

I guess that leaves only Perry & Lou Gramm as this person's definition of "melodic" then b/c no one else I can think of sang most songs in the high register. That definition even blows Stevie Nicks out. She sang a bit too low.

pdsidd wrote:Who said melodic = high register? You getting confused because Perry had a range that encompased the top end or something??
... in my view, a melodic song is sung several steps up from Gin and Tonic Sky.

I'm not confused at all. Page 4 of this thread:

With me now pdsidd?
pdsidd wrote:Not at all, is "Gin and Tonic Sky" a song that's made it big over the pond and not made it over to the UK or something? Certainly not a term I'm familiar with?
But if that is saying a melodic song has to be in a high key then I agree it's not my definition of melodic rock and that's for sure.

Just throwing that out there...my opinion, for whatever it is worth

That's the point.... We ARE missing Journey.
JSS wrote:Dude, calm yourself, your comment was a fucking joke, not you! And perhaps by only knowing my work with Yngwie or Rock Star, you think I am only a metal guy where the metal part was a tiny part of who I am. I was weened on Perry, Mercury, Wonder, Gramm & all the greats who OWN melody. If u look into things like Eyes, Talisman or even my 2nd solo album, you'd see there was far more substance you know of me. Regarding ego, come on man, don't even go there....ego is not to be confused with confidence, with confidence I implore you to see/hear what you're missing....even after the acoustic version of Coming Home on the page, if you get nothing there, then yes, it's all matter of opinion. But I will correct you on the melodic part, melody is my life!

I'll do some more digging on your other work. What is the one CD I should buy of yours that would win me over based my tastes?

Fuck his past work.
I like it but don't listen to it. I am focussed on his work IN Journey.
So Far Do Good..(sorry BA....)
All I give shit is that he makes Journey respectable again. He has far out exceeded that.

I'm trying my best to give JSS the benefit of the doubt by reviewing his previous works. But, in my opinion, Journey sucks in their current incarnation. I've heard the boots and seen them live as well. I think you'd feel the same without the payola bro. Oddly enough you had the same opinion as I did until you were "invited" to a show.

Fuck you Aron.
Prove that I have been paid off? You can't. You are as bad as Steveforever or Shania. All bullshit.
I am not being paid off.
No, I wouldn't have the same feeling. Soto improved ten fold and continues to improve. Get the fuck outta here and go ride the Toto train to nowher, you fucking swine.

Go fuck yourself.
You are missing Journey?
Ok, I'll bite.
Hey, at first I thought Soto wa shit. I was on record as saying Deen or Perry were the only ones who do the catalogue justice. Boy, was I wrong. Soto has proven he can actually hit Perry notes. I think the guy need some serious praise for his talent, adaptation, and overall respect to the band, the legacy and the voice that is Perry.
Stop typing insurgents. I can hear you banging your keyboards.
I am harder on Soto than anyone, but I am fair. You can NEVER accuse me of being unfair.
Jeff is a really good guy....on all levels, and I am glad to see him finally, albeit 25 years late, get the adulation he deserves.
The pressure is on him to produce a kick ass CD. If I were at the window with 2 minutes to post time, I would bet it all to win. No Place, No show. That is for Styx and REO. Journey is better than those shit bands.

Think Perry in 2006 could match what Jeff did at the start of the tour? If you think so you are fucked in the head.

WILDCHILDTWISTED wrote:Personally, I haven't LOVED Journey since Perry left the band. Augeri could hit the notes, but the soul was not there. Journey just became another melodic rock band with a high tenor singer. But, I am a die-hard Journey fan, so out of respect I still went to shows and bought Arrival, Red13, and Generations. Well, I didn't buy Generations. Now they have Soto and again, I'm not LOVING it like I used to. I don't think I'm going to love Journey as much as I used to, but I can appreciate them trying to move forward into a new era....even if most of the world thinks Journey is just a tribute to themselves these days. I do see a noticeable change in the energy of the band since Soto came in...that's cool to see.
