the band should do their own version of BTM... so they can be in total control.. other bands have done it ..talk to all members, tell stories the fans dont know about.. i would buy it..

Hell, me too! That's a great idea. Have them all get together in the same room and tell stories about each other. I'd watch that if it were 6 hours long.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Great idea....not going to happen. Perry wants his private life kept secret. What happened on the road stays on the road. Besides, it would only pull them farther apart. If Journey is indeed going to move forward, they should cherish and remember the past, not live in it. Learning from your mistakes is a good idea, too. We're just not supposed to know some things. Personally, I just care about the music and the guys being happy and safe. All of them....even Augeri.

That has always been my suspicion. It was probably preceded by something like "When I joined in 1978..." (or something along that type of line) or possibly followed by some kind of qualifying statement that would make the comment unimportant and less dramatic. We can't have THAT going on. Must milk drama! Must create drama where there isn't any! Whatever the rest of that comment was, we may never know, but I always try to keep those things in mind watching those kind of shows. You're only seeing what they want you see, which is usually a completely distorted version of what actually took place.

I thought Steve Perry had final editorial control?

Herbie Herbert wrote:I was surprised to be involved in the history at all. I mean, I can’t imagine – with Steve Perry having the editorial control that he had… that control, I mean geez – I wholly expected to be written out of the history when the camera crew showed up. I told the director – who really insulted my intelligence – ‘you have no editorial content credibility with Steve Perry having the final cut… And, if you saw the very first promos for VH-1 that came out, it showed Steve Perry saying, 'I never really felt like I was a part of the band.' Then it washed to me, where I'm saying, 'Yeah, that's like the Pope saying he never really felt Catholic.'…Do you know how quick that was taken out? Perry launched like an MX missile when he saw that. He went crazy. That promo was eliminated and that little segment was taken out of VH-1.

Those statements lead me to believe that if Steve Perry didn’t like how that statement came across it would have been edited or put back into context.

Unless of course Herbie is lying because he is bitter and angry.

I'd prefer a band edited version of BTM to be sure, but I highly doubt you'd get everyone in agreement on what was ok to air and what wasn't. At least we'd get complete concepts as opposed to the drama-ensuing cut & paste job VH1 did.

Slightly off the topic of this post, but I've always been curious if Lora/Cyndy were in Frontiers & Beyond?

There is one quick shot of Cyndy when they are talking about the fan club. I think they show Tim sitting behind his desk processing orders and Cyndy is sitting on the floor sorting fan mail. I was working for the fan club parttime then (and working my other job in Sacramento) and was out of town when that was filmed.

That was Cyndy? Honestly, did you have to open & read ALL those fan mail letters? What did you do with them all - I can't imagine the band kept them or did they - maybe, some. Who here wrote a fan letter to Journey back then? (I wrote my first one when I was 44!!)

Is that Lora is my hero because when I was a twelve year old kid, the first letter I received from Journey Force was from Lora. And I decided right away that she was awesome. That was only what, 25 years ago now?

Gotcha. I didn't think Herbie would post on this sight. He too busy poking pins into his Steve Perry voodoo doll.

DITTO!

I agree with Cyndy,

I was a little disappointed in how they edited it & highlighted all the negativity, but i wasn't surprised. the point of BTM is to attract viewers with drama & controversy - not to tell a complete, fair story.

For what it's worth..
The one GOOD thing that did come out of all this, my children at the time were very young, and because they watched that, they drug out my albums and cassettes, and, brought back a lot of memories, and are still Steve/JOURNEY fans to this day. As for Sherrie and Steve, let it go, let something in Steve's life stay sacred. If they were trying to make Mr. Perry look like the bad guy in this, I'm sorry, it backfired. My heart broke for him, so badly. Poor guy.. Why people in the position that these people were in, chose to tell their own story, and NOT JOURNEY'S, is far beyond my knowledge. That's fine, though, whatever it takes to have the DRAMA, I guess!!!!

Sometimes it is not about the truth of something but what can be said to make it a shocker so the people will watch....sad that VH1 feels the need to make a mountain out of a mole hill with some of there BTM shows. Granted that these shows shed light on a person and bands life good or bad but they don't have to dig for dirt to make it more interesting to the viewer. Give them a little privacy.....BTM and VH1 sure did wrong with Steve and Journey oh well who am I to say I'm just a viewer.

Thanks! I just could never believe any of the crap that was being said. It's just TV and they can say or do what ever they want. I am very pro Perry but i am still a jouney fan too. I guess they could not find any dirt on them. And as for Steve & Sherrie it should be left alone we do not need to know. Thank you both L & C for being true friends to them.
