you can't beat stevie ray vaughan's "LITTLE WINGS" you can't listen to it without the head bob and air guitar. it makes you want to jam despite whatever mood you are in. if i knew how to post a link to it on here , i would. but for now, you just have to imagine. 8)

Seems like there's a lot of happy music out there after all, but the majority of it goes way back. This probably accounts for the old hits making a comeback, people are perhaps a little fed up with what's about today. Anyway I'm about to get in the van and on my way to work, first track Good Vibrations (Good one TVL) followed by the Fun Fun Fun till your.....Moon, I'll search the internet for the Triumph track during coffee break as I'm sure as hell need a few black ones this morning

This all came about by watching highlights of the Elton show at the weekend, he ends the concert with Sad Songs...why? Guess it's time for him to pen a song called Happy Songs, wouldn't that be a better way to end a concert

Mind you it's probably not as bad as Europe ending a concert with Final Countdown

If we're considering Paul Simon, his Feelin' Groovy (59th Street Bridge Song) must qualify for a happy song. And a personal favorite of mine, Some Fantastic Place by Squeeze.

Well I'm just listening to Triumph, thanks L  I'm impressed but it hasn't got me dancin' in the office yet  Yet more happy songs, thanks for the contribution. Has Dylan never done a happy song? I've no idea myself as I've never had the pleasure of playing his entire collection

Sad Songs is a happy song Styxman, just like
I Don't Feel Like Dancing from the Scissor Sisters.
Both make your brain wanna think they are kinda sad

I understand what you're saying but Elton's rendition is still slow and mushy ain't it. What really does my head in...is the crowd shots, when you get the husband and wife looking in each others eyes, dancin' like martians, singing along and then kissin' each other, that shit should be banned big time. If you get a chance to see the Elton show in NY, take a look at the couple I mean at the end, fuckin' sad songs makin' people happy, shouldn't be allowed

I'll look foor it if I ever get a chance to see it Sir.
Never heard Sad Songs in concert I don't think.
The original version is very upbeat and I probably
wouldn't care for it slowed down.
So what your saying is if these folks were crying
or mean faced in the crowd, you be cool by it?
Is it the people or the song that's got ya miffed?

I dont know Bob Dylans entire collection either, but here is one I can think of...New Morning.
This one is happy and this video of Bob trying to do it is funny. Dont know if he's drunk, stoned, or asleep here.

Here is the song being covered by Devereux were you can actually understand the lyrics :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AlkwZLVdwk

and as further evidence here are the lyrics. 8)

New Morning

Can’t you hear that rooster crowin’?
Rabbit runnin’ down across the road
Underneath the bridge where the water flowed through
So happy just to see you smile
Underneath the sky of blue
On this new morning, new morning
On this new morning with you.

Can’t you hear that motor turnin’?
Automobile comin’ into style
Comin’ down the road for a country mile or two
So happy just to see you smile
Underneath the sky of blue
On this new morning, new morning
On this new morning with you.

The night passed away so quickly
It always does when you’re with me.

Can’t you feel that sun a-shinin’?
Ground hog runnin’ by the country stream
This must be the day that all of my dreams come true
So happy just to be alive
Underneath the sky of blue
On this new morning, new morning
On this new morning with you.

So happy just to be alive
Underneath the sky of blue
On this new morning, new morning
On this new morning with you.
New morning . . .

This is kind of unrelated, but this whole thread made me think of something. I was *obsessed* with Depeche Mode back in the day (I know, I know... it's WAY off the genre!) but every single song they sang made you want to slit your wrists more than the one before it. It was really melancholy stuff. Which is why I liked it. HA

Then they came out with "But Not Tonight" -- and wow! The melody is sad (I suppose) but they lyrics are SO happy!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXyY_gnZUVg

BUT NOT TONIGHT

Oh god, it's raining
But i'm not complaining
It's filling me up
With new life

The stars in the sky
Bring tears to my eyes
They're lighting my way
Tonight

And i haven't felt so alive
In years

Just for a day
On a day like today
I'll get away from this
Constant debauchery

The wind in my hair
Makes me so aware
How good it is to live
Tonight

And i haven't felt so alive
In years

The moon
Is shining in the sky
Reminding me
Of so many other nights
But they're not like tonight

Oh god, it's raining
And i'm not containing
My pleasure at being
So wet

Here on my own
All on my own
How good it feels to be alone
Tonight

And i haven't felt so alive
In years

The moon
Is shining in the sky
Reminding me
Of so many other nights
When my eyes have been so red
I've been mistaken for dead
But not tonight
You can't change the wind, but you can change the sails.

OH! I just thought of another one with fabulous lyrics. Sad melody, though.

"Alive" by Van Zant. It was actually written by Jim Peterik of Survivor. Also of the "Songwriting for Dummies" fame. His plane was smoking and had to make an emergency landing and he was REALLY happy to be alive when all was said and done.

Here's one from my old chums, Marillion:

Made Again

I have been here many times before
In a life I used to live
But I have never seen these streets so fresh
Washed with morning rain

I have seen this face a thousand times
Every morning of my life
But I never saw these eyes so clear
Free of doubt and pain

Like the whole world has been made again

I have been here many times before
In a life I used to live...

And it's all because you made me see
What is false and what is true
Like the inside and the outside of me
Is being made again by you

And it's all because you made me see
What is false and what is true
Like the inside and the outside of me
Has been made again by you

Like a bright new morning
Like a bright new day
I woke up from a deep sleep
I woke up from a bad dream

To a brand new morning
To a brand new day
Like the whole world has been made again

...and, if you've happened to hear it from their 1994 album, "Brave"...

...you'll agree with me: Made Again *is* uplifting..!
