Gary Schutt. Played bass on Gods, and Queen tribute, did a cd with Jeff, among other things. Recently did NAMM with him. Gary and Jeff have been friends for years and work together alot. Gary also has his own stuff going on. Plays lead, bass, drums, writes, produces, etc.Matthew wrote:GirlLikeYou wrote:

Ah...okay...thanks TVL. But is he a Bass Legend like - say - Geddy Lee, Chris Squire or Randy Jackson? I mean...other than his friendship with JSS...I'm not sure I quite get why he's mentioned so often on this forum.
No, he's not a bass legend. He's a friend of mine. Lives near me and has a band that plays in clubs in Florida. He's done alot of solo work too. Been working on a new album. Here's his newest solo release.Matthew wrote:TVL wrote:Gary Schutt. Played bass on Gods, and Queen tribute, did a cd with Jeff, among other things. Recently did NAMM with him. Randy Jackson?? A bass legend?? That's kind of funny

Agreed. And there IS no bassist for this band but Ross Valory.
Red13JoePa wrote:Who gives a rip about "funky?" It's Journey not Frankie Goes To Hollywood.
While I think Jaxon functioned for ROR, I think the bottoms of the songs would've more typically precise, subtle, and solid with Ross Valory.

actually, Matthew, no one is a legend until a buncha people figure out that the person SHOULD be a legend. gotta start somewhere, eh? that's why he is mentioned so much. take a listen and look at all that Gary has done and you might change your mind. he plays bass ,guitar, keys, drums at a virtuostic level, writes it all himself, sings it, films it, produces it, does the artwork and would buy you a meal if you were with him. (i.e. nice guy) his new instrumental cd is going to be incredible. He's an unbelievable talent and we are just trying to get the word out about him and what he is doing because he is making a push to promote some things he is doing and we are giving him a leg up. K? follow the links in the other thread to view his video and songs and then vote(gotta get that in).
so, who is this other "neal" guy. is this his only project? where is from? discuss......

I've got to disagree with you there, Red. Valory was the best player for - say - Escape but Jackson was the best for ROR.

You're right GLY...and I was speaking from a position of total ignorance. What's the best song to start off with?

Why the lack of love for Jackson? I wonder...is he just too black for the typical Journey fan out there in the heartlands? Or too...er...stylishly dressed?
What's with all this sentimentality toward Ross? No-one ever puts twisted evil faces next to posts about Steve Smith. But what about poor old Dunbar? Ruthlessly fired by the band...etc...etc...but no-one sheds a tear or gives his replacement a hard time.
I say it's time to open your hearts to Randy...even though it's about twenty years too late..but as you say...you've got to start somewhere.

It's not a lack of love, as he was ok, but rather an abscence of "Jackson Loonery."
How do you keep it straight, being both a loon and Jacksonloon?

I don't know much about this effort. any insights would be appreciated. Jeff? Eric? Bob? I see that Lonely Shade of Blue is here. I thought that was Jeff's song. (I love that song!!)

thanks for your thoughts.

Red - I'm not a JacksonLoon because I'm a fan of Valory too. You however cannot tolerate anyone other than Valory playing bass in Journey...so I'm afraid...the Loon is you.
