Really? Which band, Symphorce or Brainstorm?

Symphorce's "Phorceful Ahead" album borrowed some lyrics off Pain of Salvation's "The Perfect Element"album....at first singer denied he'd ever heard PoS then later admitted that he was guilty.

After Forever "S/T" ...Sounds like a combination of all their past efforts, which gives me a mixed opinion because I don't like all their albums. I had hoped for a more dominant keyboard presence like in Remagine.
(updated)
Nevermind. The keyboard prescence is there. My stereo speakers were not... That problem was fixed.

Yngwie Malmsteen - Odyssey. Despite it's almost 20 years old, it sounds like it could have been released yesterday. (apart from that my record is sounding pretty worn out by now )

Anyway, it still feels like yesterday first time I heard it...

Probably the best record he ever made, and the best singer he ever used. I know of a lot of Yngwie fans who wish the line-up for Odyssey would reunite...I heard that line-up had major chemistry issues, but then adding one part Yngwie to multi-parts musicians-of-any-type usually ends in a nasty explosion.

Who was the singer on that one? Doogie White? I like his voice but not sure when he came on board. I think Marching Out is my favorite.

Actually, it was Joe Lynn Turner on Odyssey. Amazing singer, and over the years his voice even keeps getting better, I think.

Marching Out I like very much as well. There are a couple of great songs on that.

I preferred Mark Boals myself, especially on Trilogy. But I swear on his solo albums, he sounds like Lana Lane's evil twin brother.

I loved Mark Boals on Trilogy and have disliked everything else he has done since.

Ah ok, thanks. I had no idea he sang for Yngwie at some point.

AOTW: Tomorrow's Eve - Mirror of Creation II

Very much in the vein of Vanden Plas and/or Symphony X. Good singer as well which is a deal breaker for me many times when it comes to these types of bands

My AOTW goes to The Dogma "A Good Day To Die." Usually I don't purchase a gothic album if it doesn't have a female singer, but this is pretty cool stuff. It's got a lot of gothic and power elements, but it's also got some noticeable roots in classic 80's hard rock. Very interesting combo of styles and worth at least one listen.

'Marbles' by Marillion is mine.........the new Scorpions sounds good from the samples too!

Yeah, I heard them as well, and I like them! When I listened to the samples it never occured to me that the songs were written by a whole bunch of writers, but apparently they were.

As for AOTW, it's Abraxas by Santana.

I've heard the new scorps album and it does sound like there might be some other songwriters involved...quite a few commercial radio sounding songs on it. Overall quite goiod for the scorps.

I thought Meine's voice sounded as good as I 'd heard it for a long time....looking forward to getting it.

Kamelot - Ghost Opera. Wow, I didn't expect they would have changed so much musically, it's very diverse as well. I like it though; every song is a surprise that way, and a very pleasant surprise. Apart from the Gregorian choir part... WTF??? :?

Is the AOTW status based on the music or the tightness of the singer's ass?

And how has the music 'changed so much', pray tell??

My AOTW goes to Oliver Wakeman "Mother's Ruin." It's safe to say that his father taught him everything he knows. But I wonder who it was that kicked him out of the new age stuff and provoked him to do a rock album?

Its not as good (as Karma or Black Halo)...thats the only real change i can hear...apart from too many effects on the vocals.

Must be based on the tightness of the singer's ass then eh?

Well, of course I did check out the ahem... artwork. The CD is pretty nice too though.

Maybe it depends on the way you listen to it... I thought I was going to listen to a record more gothic than The Black Halo. So when it didn't turn out to be a sequel I was quite surprised.

Anyway, what made them sound differently for me were the Rammstein-like riffs and the 'kloink' sounds -as in NM156; the punch punch punch part, along with the vocal effects that Tali already mentioned. It's a bit darker, I think, but yes, still Kamelot.

What does Kamelot sound like nowadays? The only album I've heard was their debut "Eternity," which my bro calls 'The Crimson Glory Impersonation Album.' I always figured they're more Power Metal, but now that I hear the word 'gothic,' it's starting to catch my interest in buying one of their recents.

They're not gothic JB, they're power metal. They had a girlie singing on the black halo which I guess gave it a slightly goth feel, but do yourself a favor and listen to their Karma album. It doesn't get much better.
